Hi Nicola, unfortuantely there are too many people on this site that will try to

convince you that treating it holisticly is not possible, I however know that is

incorrect so maybe I will email you privately. -

Here's my story.......................

I am 33 yrs. old. When I was 19 I was put on synthroid for my hypothyroid.

My doses was changed over the yrs. to just about every dose they make. At age

26, I was going to school at the New York College of Health Professions for

Massage Therapy and I was learning more about a wholistic approach to life. I

wanted so badly to get off of synthetic drugs, the thought of being on them

forever was frightenening. I used to listen to Null all the time on his

radio show and one day he mentioned how a person with an underactive thyroid

needs thyroid from someone else. I thought, " who the hell is going to give me

their thyroid? " He was referring to animals. Well, I couldn't imagine that, I

was a vegan for God's sake, how was I to not eat the animals or their products

but I was going to take their thyroid tissue? No way.

A year went by and I had tried every thyroid supplement on the health food

store shelf, but my condition was obviously too severe for supplements. One day

at school I went to the herbal pharmacy and asked if they could reccomend a

thyroid treatment. They showed me a thyroid supplement, I bought it, took it

for a week, it didn't help me. I called the company that makes it to see if

they could give me more info and they recoomended something else. It was called

Eco Thyro. Nothing more and nothing less than " dried freezed thyroid tissue "

from cows on organic farms in New Zealand. It was a tough decision but I tried

it. I started with 2 a day. Within 6 days I was a completely different person.

NO constipation, no fatigue, no dry nails, no brain fog, my weight was changing

along with my energy. NO GOITER! I was amazed! I stayed on it for 6 months

and then saw my endocrinologist. Without telling him what I was taking (he

thought I was still on synthroid) he did my

blood work. He called me a few days later and said " Your levels are normal for

the first time ever, and you gland shrunk to a size I never thought it could " .

I arranged to go see him and brought the bottle of Eco Thyro. He took the info

and told me to keep doing what I am doing. He was very supportive thank God

becaue many would not be.

Anyway, for the next few yrs. I stayed on it, felt great and I wore a bikini

for the first time ever at age 28. I went for my routine visits, my levels

changed slightly, I added a 3 rd pill to my day and moved on. For yrs my

bloodwork was great and so was I. At 32 yrs. old I got pregnant on the first

try. YEEAAAAA! So happy, couldn't believe how easy it was considering I have a

thryoid condition. Anyway, my gland enlarged slightly and I was confused as to

what I should do because I have heard and read that your dose usualy needs to

increase during pregnancy, should I pop 4 a day of this magical medicine? First

I had my midwife take my blood, all came back normal still, my TSH was slightly

high (4.5) but nothing crazy, I was only a few weeks pregant so I was getting

the info early. Then I called the company " How do I increase the dose if I need

to, I am pregnant? " They advised me no to exceed more than 3 a day, even that

they don't recommend and they gave me a

name of a doctor in NY who prescribes eco thyro to her patients. (you can

only get it through a holistic doctor now). I called her, she told me not to

take more than 3 a day because she was scared my hypo would become hyper and I

might lose the baby. I stayed on 3 and went back to midwife in 4 weeks to get

blood work done again, TSH 11, shit. Ran to endocrinologist, asked for

synthroid (obviously I am not going to jeopardize my baby) and figured I would

go back to natural after the birth. I can't stay on something that cannot be

increased when needed. He said my TSH was nothing to be concerned about and the

synthroid would balance everything out. 1 week later I miscarried. I don't

know why and many women who don't have thyroid conditions lose their first, it

happened I am not blaming anyone or anything. Anyway, the miscarriage was

almost 3 months ago and I can't get my thyroid back. I tried to stay on

synthroid figuring I will eventualy try for a baby again so

why not stay on whatever I will take during the pregnancy but after 3 weeks on

it I couldn't take it anymore. It's not for me, I was tired, constipated, etc

etc etc. So, I go back on the eco thyro, 3 a day, plus a supplement called " rev

it up " by Dr. Dane in NY. Everything feels great for about a month. Then on my

33 birthday (on that damn day), my goiter arrives and hasn't left since. That's

where I am now. Thanks for listening. If you are interested in researching Eco

Thyro the company is called Professional Helath Product (PHP) and Dr. Dane can

be googled as well. Good luck to you and to me!

that makes no sense does it? He knows what he is doing but still puts you

at risk for miscarriage and further illness from undertreated hypo? Lots

of docs like that. You cannot be treated to the TSH once on Armour. He

knows that too? The point of support groups is to avoid the pitfalls of

poor medical care.

what does this sentence mean " you cannot be treated to the TSH once on armour? "

I don't think he put me at risk fo rmiscarriage, he did my bloodwork and it my

TSH was 11 so he put me on synthroid and I miscarried a week later but the fetus

was not alive for 2 weeks already when I miscarried so when I went to him my

baby had already died. I think you misunderstood what I wrote. He prefers

synthroid so he wanted to talk me out of the idea of armour when I called him

yesterday to find out if he prescribes it, when I said I will have to go to

another doctor he admitted to prescribing it.

HI ,

Thank you for telling us your story. It does shed some light on your

situation.

I would not want to guess at any reason for your baby's death - it must

be very sad for you and I am wondering how you are coping with this? I

had no idea that is was so recent.

My feeling from you story is that your trouble began when you were

pregnant and your thyroid was under pressure - you body needed more

hormone but you got the wrong advice from everyone - the Eco people and

your endo. Prior to this your body was getting both T4 and T3 from the

animal tissue then you stopped it and switched to T4 only.

There are a couple of reasons why this was probably very bad for your

body - first switching meds is tricky at the best of times - most of us

get a reaction if we do it and it stresses the adrenals. Second your

body was suddenly deprived of T3 and given only T4 - so again the body

goes into a kind of shock.

I would say that since your miscarriage is so recent you may be able to

heal the goitre in time with the Eco Thyro and maybe some iodine. Your

body is still in shock and it will take time to get back to normal. Even

when we carry a baby to term it is many months before our bodies are

back to normal (if they ever really are LOL )

To me it seems that you probably need more of your product than you are

taking currently. I don't know why you couldn't increase the dose just

like any other thyroid product. It seems to work just like Armour and to

give you an example I had to go up to 6 grains of Armour (6 tablets)

before I got the right dose. Your supplement probably dose not have a

dosage but it seems to me that if you increase it slowly as if you were

taking Armour then you will be able to tell when you are feeling better.

Now that I know you story I just want to encourage you not to panic - it

is so soon after your loss that your body is still adjusting. Keep going

with all the good things you are doing for your health and be easy on

your self and consider what I have said about taking more of the Eco

thyro. If it were me I would certainly do that before going on Synthroid

again or even Armour.

You've done everything right but just not had the right information -

this is why many of us are here - it’s a good place to learn what you

will never find out from most doctors.

Take care,

Kerry

Thank you very much. I am back on the eco, 3 a day with a supplement called rev

it up as well. I plan to look into the iodine website I got from Gracia (thanks

to her too). Tomorrow I will go to the endo just for the bloodwork, I am

curious to know where my levels are at. Thanks again.

My Name is Nicola and i live in the UK, I am an equine behaviorist and

I have finally been diagnoised with hypothyroid after at least 3 years

of battleing with my GP to find out what was wrong with me. To say my

GP was dismissive and unintrested is an underestimate :( but after

doing some research myself I have seen a private specialist and have

started in thyroxin this week. I have practically all the symptoms

and am throughly miserable with the way I am feeling.

Now I have found out whats wrong I want to approach it as holistically

as possible. I am particaluary interested in alternative therapies

and nutrition that may help. i have ordered a couple of books but I

dont know if they will cover comp medicine.

If anyone could provide information or direct me to any books with

this type of info in I would be grateful....

Many thanks I look forward to being a member of this list.

WHEN YOU GET ENOUGH ARMOUR TO FEEL WELL, AND BE WELL, YOUR TSH WILL BE ZERO.

On $inthroid the doc determines the dose based on his intrepretation of TSH.

This is not how it works on Armour. Many many docs undertreat their

patients, and other health problems result. If your doc is unfamiliar with

Armour, he will not let you have enough medicine if he is going by TSH.

what does this sentence mean " you cannot be treated to the TSH once on

armour? " I don't think he put me at risk fo rmiscarriage, he did my

bloodwork and it my TSH was 11 so he put me on synthroid and I miscarried a

week later but the fetus was not alive for 2 weeks already when I miscarried

so when I went to him my baby had already died. I think you misunderstood

what I wrote. He prefers synthroid so he wanted to talk me out of the idea

of armour when I called him yesterday to find out if he prescribes it, when

I said I will have to go to another doctor he admitted to prescribing it.

gotcha! Well I am just going there today to get my bloodwork done. I then want

a copy of all my levels, I will decide from there what I want to do. The last

few days I have been feeling good again, still on the eco thyro and I want to

order that iodine stuff you introduced to me, thanks again.
