Guest guest
Welcome Bonnie Jo. I was diagnosed with RA 25 years ago, but another RD recently said I have sero negative inflammatory arthritis. My sed rate is always elevated, and my crp is also high during flares. I've never had hives before, but I've read that they can come from autoimmune diseases. Have you always had them or did they start after a new med? a ----- Original Message ----- From: <JO1140@...> < egroups> Sent: Saturday, October 07, 2000 12:28 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Arava > Hello there, My name is Bonnie and I signed on to this group recently and > thought I had better check in before II am considered a lurker. Guest guest
Dear a and everyone, I had a phone visit with my rheumatologist today who said that hives are not associated with RA as another doctor-my primary had thought. He did,nt understand why the dermatologist had not follwed up with me. It really has been the RD and my primary who have treated this, Next week I have allergy testing. To answer your question about when they started, it was in April. I got folliculitis on my head= inflamed hair follicles and impetigo, The cocktail seems to be finally kicking in as the inflammation is going down and the itching is still there but less severe, Do you have joint damage? Guest guest
Bonnie Jo, I'm glad your RD confirmed this. I've never heard of hives being associated with RA. I hope your tests show what is causing it. Yes, I have joint damage. Both knees were replaced 2 years ago, and my ankles are in really bad shape. If ankle replacements were as successful as knees, I'd be standing in line for them. My elbows are now my most active joints. One is bad and the other one is just starting. I feel it creeping in my wrists. I'm lucky to have had this disease for 25 years and still be in much better shape than some people that have only had it a year or two. a ----- Original Message ----- From: <JO1140@...> < egroups> Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2000 3:51 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Bonnie Jo > Dear a and everyone, > I had a phone visit with my rheumatologist today who said that hives are not > associated with RA as another doctor-my primary had thought. Guest guest
HI, THERE. MY NAME IS JOYCE.. I'VE HAD RA FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS. AND WITH RA BEING A SYSTEMIC DISEASE WHY WOULD HIVES NOT BE PART OF IT. MY RA DOCTOR IS TELLING ME THAT I HAVE RA THAT IS COMPLICATED BY FIBROMYALGIA. HE DOES A TEST CALLED A SED RATE THAT MEASURES HOW MUCH INFLAMATION IN THE BODY. THIS DR IS SAYING IT IS ALL THE FIBROMYALGIA, BUT MY SED RATE IS CONTINUALLY TRIPLE WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE . THE NORMAL IS 0-15 AND MINE RUNS IN THE 60'S. MY QUESTION IS , IF RA IS A SYSTEMIC DISEASE(TRAVELS ALL OVER THE BODY) THEN HOW IS THIS , THE FIBROMYALGIA ACTING UP. I JUST WANTED TO VENT . THANKS FOR LISTENING. JOYCE.
Guest guest
Dear Joyce, I am confused as I wrote earlier. Now I.m confused about fibromyalgia because I thought that there is not inflammation with fibromyalgia. So how does your RD explain that? Curiosly, Bonnie Jo

Guest guest
Joyce, Fibromyalgia doesn't elevate the sed rate, but RA does. There are many things that elevate the sed rate. The sed rate is a measure of inflammation, and FM doesn't cause inflammation. Any inflammation you are experiencing is from the RA. I also have both RA and FM, and my sed rate has been in the high 80's. http://www.aafp.org/afp/991001ap/1443.html is a good site that explains the sed rate. http://rheumatoid.arthritis.freehosting.net/lupus%20 & %20FM.htm has links to information about FM. Currently there are no specific tests for FM, making it hard to diagnose, but many of us with RA also have FM. a ----- Original Message ----- From: <FIBROFOG247@...> < egroups> Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2000 1:40 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Bonnie Jo > HI, THERE.
