Have you ever been tested for Celiac Disease (Gluten intolerance)? I have

both CD and hypo. I've lost 6 pounds in 4 days, stomach problems are gone and I

feel much better.

Kim my son just lost 20 pounds---what he did was --chicken, some

pork, fish, veggies, and lots of salads with only olive oil and

balsamic vinegar. And only water or diet soda. He wanted to lose

weight for Prom (what is this with my kids?) anyway he went from 224

now close to 200 (he is almost 6' tall though). He wanted to take off

his middle weight--he also either ran every day or went to the gym

and he lifts weights (he did not want to lose muscle)---he is very

happy now to feel better and look better. This took one month but he

is a boy and they tend to take it off faster than girls and he had

that much he could easily lose.

He will add in one piece of fruit now and only adkins bread (since he

does like sandwitches once in a while. But no sugar, no rice or pasta.

For dinner we had veggies, salad and chicken, pork or fish (once in

awhile red meat)--totally took out any kind of rice, pasta, potatoes,

and beans---and no sugar what so ever.

I made home made salsa and he adds that to salads ( onions, garlic,

pepper, tomatos, hot sause in a blender) tina

Hi Kim,

Believe me, I have been there and it is so frustrating. Two

recommendations:

1. If you aren't absorbing your food try digestive enzymes. These

have worked wonders for me, big, big difference.

2. Low carb helps, no carb doesn't work for me because I have no

endurance to exercise. Besides that all the protein started building

more muscle than I care to keep. Here's my latest recipe for success

and it IS working when nothing else has. And it is different than

counting calories, I don't know why.

For breakfast and lunch:

Smoothey with the following in it.

6 ounces of grapefruit juice, preferably the kind with no added

sugar. Can be sweetened with other juices.

2 tablespoons of sugar free orange yogurt for flavor

2 tablespoons of protein powder, preferably whey

1 level teaspoon of sugar free Metamusil

1 small squirt of whip cream, not cool whip. Helps keep consistentcy

mixed.

Snack: 4 sicilian olives, apple, or carrot sticks

Dinner: Reasonable mix of chicken or fish with a green vegetable or

cauliflower. Limit salads, have a vegetable instead. Don't know

why but regular salad consumption will make you stall. Another meal

replacement that is ideal: scrambled eggs with broccoli or sushi.

Again, this has been working better than slim-fast, counting calories

or carbs. The first two days only you will hit the way do to the

sudden change. But then your body adjusts and it is the perfect

fuel. I am very curious to hear from anyone else who tries this

program and sticks with it.

Any doc can check. my mom went 5 years of tests- cancer, psych, etc. a

nutritionist figured it out. turns out my whole - well most of it has celiac

all

coming out in different ways- my mom- really bad diarehha, my brother- skin,

me- my thyroid. check out www.celiac.com

I know this sounds silly, but have you tried omitting all gluten

foods? This means anything made with wheat and white flour. No

bread, pasta or cereal unless it's clearly marked gluten or wheat

free.

If you must have bland carbs try rice or potatoes. See how you

feel. You should feel better rather quickly, even a few days should

show some improvement.

Kim,

I ate fried scallops yesterday and got so sick and I don't have any problems

like you described, so maybe 10 nuggets were too much for anyone. Just a

thought :)

do something about it before you croak. Get Armour, get cortef, at least

you will be doing something. The only reason I am well is b/c I treated

myself until I could find someone to help me, and I am the best I have found

:)

First of all, are you on thyroid meds? Do you know your thyroid lab values? If

not, you might want to check with your doctor and get a copy of your most recent

labs. People can help you figure out what the numbers mean. If you have not

had labs for a long time, and you're on thyroid medicine, then you might want to

get an appointment with your doctor and get a new lab test...maybe your medicine

isn't working anymore or your values have changed and are contributing to

symptoms.

Second, if you are getting sick (nauseated) a lot, that is a symptom of adrenal

fatigue. It can impact your thyroid even if you are on the right thyroid

medicine and dosage. You could get your adrenals checked. There is a lot of

advice on this group about adrenals.

Third, you should have a healthy diet that downplays carbs (not zero carbs) and

emphasizes healthy meats, vegetables, and whole grain sources of fiber. You

should be drinking lots of water. Fiber can help with diahhrea. Get lots of

protein, moderate fat, and carbs mostly from vegetables. You should not be

eating at starvation levels of 1000 calories a day or less. Look up a Basal

Metabolic Rate calculator on the web (any search will get you dozens of links to

them) and figure out how much you need to be eating for your actual weight. All

you do with starvation diets is slow down your metabolism. Try using vanilla

flavored protein shakes if you can't hold any food. Vanilla is a stomach

soother. Also try ginger tea or sugarfree ginger ale for the nausea. Keep

track of calories and food groups eaten by writing them down. This is not

because you want to make sure you don't eat too much, but to make sure you are

eating everything you should.
