Guest guest
Every lab uses their own reference ranges so it would be difficult to say for your neices and difficult for you to decide for them, the best bet as many have said is to go by symptoms. But I do think it's very necessary to really know how one is doing and that way is by eductating yourself about not only about the illness but how to listen to your own body speaking to you. This site you have to really play around with it and keep clicking around --it will give you some ideas how tests work ---I went though all of my daughters tests again and depending on the labs each one gave me a different reading. http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/t3/glance.html > Monday I'm going down below to meet with my sister, daughter and two neices who all have thyroid issues. > I'm not a very good teacher but I'm going to do my best, mainly because I'm still learning myself. > (1). Guest guest
I sent you some info for the best supplements, but as you read this you will see it all depends on what kind of thyroid problem you have-- -I'll use my daughter as the example---with low adrenal fatigue and low thyroid hers is caused by lack of iodine in her diet---she gave up salt and never drank soda or junk food all her life--and who knew she did not get in any iodine, she also never ate deli food which is highly processed. So she is supplementing with kelp, dulce, and nori-- Also she is negative for antibodies. So it all depends what kind of thyroid problem you have, and the only way is to get tested for this as it is very important to know what you are lacking. She also ate way too much soy and raw broccolli everyday---huge mistake. Anyway she has changed her diet big time and is following the combinations of all these websites suggestions. I have stated so many times in the past we are extremely careful with overdosing, so she adds up all the supplements and figures it out with what she eats so she won't take in too much of one thing. -- In hypothyroidism , " Shirley White " <docwhite@c...> wrote: > Monday I'm going down below to meet with my sister, daughter and two neices who all have thyroid issues. > I'm not a very good teacher but I'm going to do my best, mainly because I'm still learning myself. > (1). Guest guest
I had to have another talk with my daughter as well so I can understand how other mothers feel, it's very difficult to explain-- but the best thing do to is tell them they have a imbalance of some kind (theirs could be genetic)with their hormones and that hormones control just about everything metabolically in our body, from our energy levels, our sex hormones, to our body's tempertures and much more. So it's very important that they tell their mom everything and how they feel all the time!!!! When my daugther missed taking her adrenals like she did last weekend, the difference is very noticable, she is very tired, grouchy- -unhappy, frustrated. She thought she was ready to try and see if her adrenal gland was healed---too soon to go off of them. Right away her temperture dropped down to 96 in a few days. She was back to her brain fog as well. I had to tell her go get your pills and take two isocorts NOW---the next morning she was right as rain. So you have to tell your nieces they have to take their medicine on time all the time and never forget and never forget to tell their mom everything. So now la is back on all her glandulars and has added thyrodine into the mix as well. And she is right back to normal (almost) we are not there yet. And she may have to take this and the supplements for who knows how long--we are going to do new tests soon, another month. Also she changed her diet, added in things she was missing, much more fruit, veggie, protein, even carbs---all of the food groups work together and you do need them to heal--being on a restrictive diet is not advisable when you are trying to heal. The only thing she does not take in is a lot sugar---but she does not omit it either. WE need to do testing on minerals now to see what some of her levels are. But we have come a long way----she was 80/40 and 96 degrees all the time----now she is 105/60 and back to 97.8 almost 98 at times---a vast improvment for her. Tell your nieces not to despair, many other kids have illnesses as well. If they are giving you sister a very hard time, just take them to any hospital!!! they will change their tune big time!!!!!! My daughter worked in a clinic where a young girl had Hutchinson's--- (might have spelled it wrong)---this illness is a piece of cake compared to that one!!!!!!! Anyway best of luck to you!!!! Print out as much as you can and refer them to websites---not everything you read is correct--but it gives you ideas and from there you can form questions and find the truth!!!!! tina - In hypothyroidism , " Shirley White " <docwhite@c...> wrote: > Monday I'm going down below to meet with my sister, daughter and two neices who all have thyroid issues. > I'm not a very good teacher but I'm going to do my best, mainly because I'm still learning myself. > (1). Guest guest
I am not Tina, but thought I'd comment on this: The T4 and Free T4 depend on lab ranges, but it is safe to say you want them both on the upper half or upper quarter of the values. For instance, if the values are between 2.3 and 5.8, you subtract 2.3 from 5.8, divide it by two, add it to 2.3, and the median is 4.0. You definitely want a result higher than that. Some people say in the upper quarter, so you'd divide it by four, multiply by 3, and add to the 2.3 to find the quartile. Supplements: at least a good multi with way more than 100% of all the Bs (a super B if it doesn't), extra C cause no multis have enough of it, at least 2g a day, extra E unless the multi has enough (again, since this is an oil they usually don't), selenium, EFAs is the minimum. The Free T4 is the unbound hormone, so it is more important than total T4, especially if you have Hashi's. It means nothing if you have high total T4 and total T3 but if you have a lot of reverse T3, very little hormone is gonna reach your cells. That is why Free T3 is the most important thyroid hormone of all, as you said yourself. Now I am curious: what is Zevacol? Guest guest
Shirley, I don't take any supplements until 4 hours after taking my thyroid meds. You just never know what could interfere. I would print out the large e mail Tina sent yesterday (the supplement list from ithyroid.com) and give it to your family members. Ideally, numbers should be in the upper quadrant. Guest guest
Well, when you find out what she is really taking, please post here. I am the type of obsessive person who will try to figure out what Zevacol is for months if you don't. Guest guest
Yep I do. It took me 5 1/2 years although I had a massive goiter to get one of them to believe it was not all in my mind... I even told one of them " If it is all in my mind, how did I imagine this goiter? " .
