Hi Steph,

It can be very difficult to get the right balance of pills and vitamins

- It has taken me several years because as you know the doctors are very

little help.

I don't think smoking is good for you but I think you might have more

success giving it up if you focus on the underlying stress. I have a

friend who smokes for stress relief as well - she has had to make some

pretty radical changes in her life so she can calm down. It has been

very scary for her but necessary.

When it comes to adrenals I don't think it matters what you take if you

keep the stress up on the adrenal glands they just won't get better.

At some point into my illness I decided that it was one big lesson and I

could choose to change the way I lived or just keep getting more ill - I

do not know if this is how it is for you but for me this was a turning

point and I gradually let go of a whole heap of my stressful habits -

including smoking and drinking alcohol which I had taken up again

briefly after not doing it for 20 years - but also over -working and

feeling responsible for all and sundry! I also had to stop seeing

negative people and involving myself in people's tragic lives (I'm not

entirely cured of this one

I now feel like I have become a different person - or perhaps just

allowed a different and more peaceful side of my character out of the

box.

I am taking a mix of thyroid and sex hormones as well as quite a few

vitamins particularly B's. I have been much better since getting

testosterone.

How much armour are you taking again?

Hi Kerri, Thanks for writing I am 38 and I smoked from age 12 in tell 21 then

quit. Started a bout two years ago again like a dummy because of stress. I am

going to try to go cold turkey again. Without writing you a book my whole life I

progesterone. They just put my on a very low dose of hyrocoizon also I take vit

b-12 shots twice a week. I know what you mean about docs. I have been telling

them for eleven years that something was wrong and they would test me and tell

me everything was " normal " And to take anti depressants. Finally I found a doc

I looked back in my notes thyromine for hypothyroid.( for weight loss) Has

some form of thyroxine. It is THE treatment for hypothyroidism. However,

all of the potent, effective forms require a prescription. Armour,

HI, this is for anyone who can answer this. I have been on Armour for about

three months now also progesterone cream. This is my question. I never had the

weight problem. But my hair was dry and brittle and falling out. I have lost a

lot of weight which I did not need to in the first place. My hair loss has

gotton tons worse since starting the meds. Could it be that all I really needed

is the progesterone cream because I have read that it also helps thyroid. CouldI

be becoming hyper and not need the Armour? Help! Thanks Steph.....p.s I a few

years back I went to a dermotoligest and he siad I had excess angogens in my

hair folicols.

Just FYI, last September I went to a dermy who told me I had male pattern

baldness (had lost over half the hair on my head) and that I'd need a hair

transplant. Two weeks later I saw an endo who tested my ferritin and it was

only 30. Since taking daily ferritin - a very large portion of my hair has

grown back - so - so much for the dermy's diagnosis!

It could well be the case - Hypo symptoms are very similar to

many other hormone deficiencies - the book by Dr Hertoghe is excellent

because it explains the differences between the symptoms. This is just

me but now that I have hindsight I would never go on meds if blood tests

were the only indication of low thyroid.

And you may need to give the progesterone a few months as well - and

also you may need to add other hormones - I recommend you get that book

it has been such a help to me. The Hormone Solution.

Never heard of it - I have not heard of a single product in the 4

years I have been on these boards that helps with weight loss. Don't

waste your money - get proper help for your thyroid.

Kerry, Thank you for the info. Thanks Steph...ps I will be able to get the book

in a couple of weeks. But just wondering have you read anything about to much

I am not asking anything on thyroxine.My question has been on Thyromine.There is

a difference.I have heard of this has anyone else. I have been hypothyroid over

25 years.

My spelling sucks sorry.it is spelled androgen. I have a excess of it so it is

making my hair fall out. It is in men and women i guess you would call it a male

hormone( dam those men) LOL anyway I was just wondering what your book siads on

HI, this is for anyone who can answer this. I have been on Armour for

about three months now also progesterone cream. This is my question. I

never had the weight problem. But my hair was dry and brittle and

falling out. I have lost a lot of weight which I did not need to in the

first place. My hair loss has gotton tons worse since starting the

meds. Could it be that all I really needed is the progesterone cream

because I have read that it also helps thyroid. CouldI be becoming hyper

and not need the Armour? Help! Thanks Steph.....p.s I a few years back

You are still not making sense. Nearly everyone on this list is taking

some form of thyroxine. It is THE treatment for hypothyroidism. However,

all of the potent, effective forms require a prescription. Armour,

Synthroid, Levoxyl, etc. ALL contain thyroxine as the active ingredient.

If you have an over the counter weight loss medication that claims to

contain thyroxine, it has to be a trace amount, too little to really

help with real hypoT.
