I have been on Armour for about three months now also progesterone cream. This is my question. I never had the weight problem. But my hair was dry and brittle and falling out. I have lost a lot of weight which I did not need to in the first place. My hair loss has gotton tons worse since starting the meds. Could it be that all I really needed is the progesterone cream because I have read that it also helps thyroid. CouldI be becoming hyper and not need the Armour? Help! Thanks Steph.....p.s I a few years back I went to a dermotoligest and he siad I had excess angogens in my hair folicols. Nearly everyone on this list is taking some form of thyroxine. It is THE treatment for hypothyroidism. However, all of the potent, effective forms require a prescription. Armour, Synthroid, Levoxyl, etc. ALL contain thyroxine as the active ingredient. If you have an over the counter weight loss medication that claims to contain thyroxine, it has to be a trace amount, too little to really help with real hypoT. Guest guest
I think I answered you b4. If you are on too low a dose of Armour you will get very screwed up. I guess this is one of the hardest concepts for docs and patients to understand. Maybe we need a physics professor here to explain it. Losing too much weight might be adrenal. The condition is sufficiently uncomfortable, that I would expect you to know it and have many of the symptoms at once, not just weight loss. The dry brittle hair falling out sounds more hypoT. Guest guest
yes if they raised it to 60mg that would be waaaay toooo low, but enough so your cells woudl wake up. I also had a headache on 60mgs. Average dose is 180-240mg. I am on 240mg. Remember most docs don't know how to use Armour (((((( Your dose is too low and you will continue to have lots of problems. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Gracia Gracia, Thank you but when they raised it. I got a bad head heach and my chest was hurting. Thanks Steph Gracia <circe@...> wrote: the Armour dose is too low. Guest guest
Thank you Chuck, That is the reason I started going to docs because of the dry brittle hair falling out. But I have been on armour for three mounths and my hair loss got much worse I loss even more than I did before the meds. Also all of this started 11 years ago after the birth of my son. When He was three I went to a doc that took a biopys of my scalp and siad I had execss androgen but could see a lot of new hair grow. Thats all he told me now eight years later I am still loosing lots of hair and this does not run in my family. Do you know if it is possiable when your adreanls are undrer stress that that could cause more androgens in your body? Thanks Steph Chuck B <gumboyaya@...> wrote: Gracia, You wrote: > > Maybe we need a physics professor here to explain it. I would just suggest a check of hyperT symptoms. Guest guest
Steph - FYI I was told by a dermo that I had male pattern baldness last Sept. Had lost over half of my hair. Turns out I discovered in within a few weeks of that that I had very low ferritin levels. It has taken all these months supplementing with ferritin, but my hair is growing back. Perhaps you need Ferritin. Regards A stephanie robertson <stephsnotes2003@...> wrote: Kerry thank you. Guest guest
Thank you I will ask my doc about that. Is it pricey and is there a lot of bad side effects? Did your dermo do a biopsy of your scalp or did he just look at your hair and tell you that? In women, more androgens are produced by the adrenal glands than by ovaries. However, hair loss is a complicated issue. There can be many conditions that cause it, including hypoT. The fact that the hair loss actually increased after starting Armour does not tell us much. I is quite possible that your condition continued to worsen at that time, so it gave the false appearance of a coincidence. Unless you are on a full replacement dose, you could be anywhere on the roller coaster. As Gracia suggested, you could still be quite hypoT but thinking your symptoms are due to the medication, when you really are not getting enough.
