Guest guest
Hi Steph, It can be very difficult to get the right balance of pills and vitamins - It has taken me several years because as you know the doctors are very little help. I don't think smoking is good for you but I think you might have more success giving it up if you focus on the underlying stress. I have a friend who smokes for stress relief as well - she has had to make some pretty radical changes in her life so she can calm down. It has been very scary for her but necessary. When it comes to adrenals I don't think it matters what you take if you keep the stress up on the adrenal glands they just won't get better. At some point into my illness I decided that it was one big lesson and I could choose to change the way I lived or just keep getting more ill - I do not know if this is how it is for you but for me this was a turning point and I gradually let go of a whole heap of my stressful habits - including smoking and drinking alcohol which I had taken up again briefly after not doing it for 20 years - but also over -working and feeling responsible for all and sundry! I also had to stop seeing negative people and involving myself in people's tragic lives (I'm not entirely cured of this one I now feel like I have become a different person - or perhaps just allowed a different and more peaceful side of my character out of the box. I am taking a mix of thyroid and sex hormones as well as quite a few vitamins particularly B's. I have been much better since getting testosterone. How much armour are you taking again? Started a bout two years ago again like a dummy because of stress. I am going to try to go cold turkey again. Without writing you a book my whole life I have been under a lot of stress taking care of others etc. I have always been bad about drinking water all my life so I am sure that as alot to do with what is happening with me now. I am on 30mg of Armour also I take natural progesterone. They just put my on a very low dose of hyrocoizon also I take vit b-12 shots twice a week. I know what you mean about docs. I have been telling them for eleven years that something was wrong and they would test me and tell me everything was " normal " And to take anti depressants. Finally I found a doc three months ago that told me what I needed. Nearly everyone on this list is taking some form of thyroxine. It is THE treatment for hypothyroidism. However, all of the potent, effective forms require a prescription. Armour, Synthroid, Levoxyl, etc. ALL contain thyroxine as the active ingredient. If you have an over the counter weight loss medication that claims to contain thyroxine, it has to be a trace amount, too little to really help with real hypoT. Guest guest
HI, this is for anyone who can answer this. I have been on Armour for about three months now also progesterone cream. This is my question. I never had the weight problem. But my hair was dry and brittle and falling out. I have lost a lot of weight which I did not need to in the first place. My hair loss has gotton tons worse since starting the meds. Could it be that all I really needed is the progesterone cream because I have read that it also helps thyroid. CouldI be becoming hyper and not need the Armour? Help! Thanks Steph.....p.s I a few years back I went to a dermotoligest and he siad I had excess angogens in my hair folicols. Guest guest
, You wrote: > I looked back in my notes thyromine for hypothyroid.( for weight loss) Here are its active ingredients. L-Tyrosine: L-Tyrosine is one of the amino acids that your body needs to make thyroid hormones. L-Tyrosine is included in some weight control products because it works to stimulate the metabolism. It's also an element in helping your brain operate efficiently and for you to feel good naturally. Thyroid Powder from Bovine: Thyroid powder contains the natural ingredients that help your thyroid to work properly. That means that thyroid powder works to relieve thyroid-related weight gain and the many other symptoms of hypothyroidism. Adrenal Powder from Bovine: The adrenal glands are basic in regulating your body's stress levels. Adrenal powder is used more and more in natural weight control products, and also can help with other stress effects brought on by hypothyroidism. Because the thyroid regulates the adrenal glands, people with hypothyroidism commonly don't produce enough adrenal hormones. Guglipid: Important new evidence indicates that guglipid, an extract from the Indian guggal tree, can improve thyroid function. This means that it contributes to controlling weight in people who have hypothyroidism. Scientists are finding that guglipid lowers bad cholesterol and increases good cholesterol, and helps prevent heart disease. Guglipid is used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat obesity, arthritis and lipid problems. Nori: The Japanese seaweed nori, also used in China and Korea, helps prevent thyroid problems such as goiter because it contains iodine, as well as fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals. In traditional medicine, nori is used to strengthen the circulatory system and to reduce cholesterol. Piper longum Extract: Piper longum, or long pepper in normal language, has been found to increase the production of thyroid hormones. It also stimulates the immune system. In Ayurvedic medicine, Piper longum is used to treat the digestive and respiratory systems. Ginger Extract: Important new information indicates that ginger helps lower cholesterol, works to prevent blood clots and helps relieve symptoms of inflammation, including in arthritis. In traditional medicine, ginger is used to treat digestive problems. It also has been shown to enhance the effects of other herbs and to stimulate many of the body's functions in a variety of ways. It's probably a good source of iodine. The extracts from animal glands have had most of the active hormones removed. My understanding of Ayurvedic medicine is that the medicines are very specific to the individual. This is a shotgun. Chuck
Guest guest
Steph. Just FYI, last September I went to a dermy who told me I had male pattern baldness (had lost over half the hair on my head) and that I'd need a hair transplant. Two weeks later I saw an endo who tested my ferritin and it was only 30. Since taking daily ferritin - a very large portion of my hair has grown back - so - so much for the dermy's diagnosis! Guest guest
It could well be the case - Hypo symptoms are very similar to many other hormone deficiencies - the book by Dr Hertoghe is excellent because it explains the differences between the symptoms. This is just me but now that I have hindsight I would never go on meds if blood tests were the only indication of low thyroid. And you may need to give the progesterone a few months as well - and also you may need to add other hormones - I recommend you get that book it has been such a help to me. The Hormone Solution.
