Guest guest
Hi, my name is Calyn. I am 28 and have been recently diagnosed with a hypothroid. They are starting me on 100mg of Synthroid. Since this is new to me, I was wondering if that is a low or high dose to start. I also have panic attacks and I am concerned they will return with this new medications. Anyone who has any information regarding these problems would be greatly appreicated. I'm really glad I found this group!
Guest guest
I also used to have panic attacks and anxiety. I feel that T3 is important to treat this (your medicine is T4 only). Sometimes it takes a while to find a really good doc. There are topdoc lists (these docs are patient recommended and may not always be good). http://www.thyroid.about.com http://geocities.com/thyroide Gracia > Hi, my name is Calyn. Guest guest
hi calyn. sounds like we're in a similar boat. i'm 30 and recently diagnosed hypothyroid too. i've been dealing with a panic disorder for years as well and was concerned that the synthroid would aggravate the condition. i was initially put on 50mg of synthroid and within a day was feeling totally keyed up. i cut the dosage in half, found a new doctor and was retested a few weeks later with a TSH in normal range. i'm still looking for a more compassionate doctor to work with me on this--it seems to be crucial for optimal health. most docs don't want you to question them or have too much knowledge, which is sad considering how many people have been suffering with " mystery " symptoms for years before the thyroid dysfunction was recognized. anyway, i've got a " top doc " appointment for this month--i've had it scheduled since april--so i'm hoping he lives up to his reputation. good luck and feel free to keep in touch with your progress. all best, melissa calyn320 <calyn320@...> wrote: Hi, my name is Calyn. Guest guest
Hi Calyn, I started on 50mg but quickly had to go up to 100 and then 150. Each time I felt fine for a few months, then the many symptoms (tiredness, dizziness, cramps, watery eyes, loss of memory, aching bones) gradually returned. I don't think the increases were because my thyroid function was continuing to deteriorate; I believe the original dose was too low, but still gave my body a real boost (same way as a hungry person feels great if they have a little food, even if that food isn't really enough to counter long-term malnutrition). I have panic attacks as one sign that I need to increase my dosage again (OR even if I don't need to increase my dosage, it's a sign my thyroid function is temporarily impaired, as when I recently suffering from a mosquito-borne virus). >> Hi, my name is Calyn.
