Guest guest
I understand synthroid is a hormone...but it is not estrogen is it? if one isn't taking an estrogen replacement yet they have excess estrogen is that due to the body converting hormones into estrogen?....due to a hormonal imbalance? --------------------------------- Use Photomail to share photos without annoying attachments. Guest guest
What? LOL I think $inthroid is crap :)but many times the addition of thyroid meds normalizes hormone problems. It is not uncommon for hypos to have hysterectomies when they actually need thyroid hormones. They are less likely to remove male parts. .However many women who are hypo are also deficient in progesterone Hormone imbalance/deficiency does not necessarily mean you have too much of one hormone. Guest guest
Gracia once again you didn't answer the question rather just dispense your opinion about synthroid. im surprised you didn't tell me to use armour and life would be happy ever after. as for your LOL...sorry i haven't google searched my way to be a thryoid specialist such as yourself. you continually knock Drs who went thru schooling to become certified...but you claim to know so much more by what?...reading literature on the web and barna brodes (sp?) stuff? again..why are they knowledgeable and Drs aren't? cuz they push meds like armour? Guest guest
I believe this might be true (do you think you could sign your name as I always am going to call you Jack?) Apparently thyroid hormone can influence the sex hormones too - both positively and negatively. Kerry Re: Does synthroid drive up Estrogen? Guest guest
Kerry Ann My name is Jack...i'm a 30yo male. which is why i'm concerned about excess estrogen. i do have slight gynecomastia (male breast) however it's just fat and not breast tissue...which is reversible once my body rids the estrogen and quits building on itself. my body is otherwise in great shape as i have great muscle tone overall (except for stomach and ofcourse chest as i mentioned). arms/shoulders, legs are in great shape..its rather odd...but explainable. my progesterone is also very low. i'll find out what my endo suggests...as prior to these results he's already talked about an anti aromatase inhibitor. more to come. thanks for your post. Guest guest
LOL sorry Jack - I think there is another poster on one of the forums who posts in her partners name - sorry about that. I really do think that all the hormones need balancing and that is the down side of playing with it ourselves - it is very complex - of course in the absence of decent medical help what choice do we have? Guest guest
Gee I thought I did answer your question! Hypothyroidism affects other hormones, in fact they all work together! Look at Hormone Solutions by Thierry Hertoghe MD and Hypothyroidism: the Unsuspected Illness by Broda MD. My own life experience bears this out as well. As for my LOL.....I had no clue to what you were responding to so I said " what? " then figured maybe I could respond to it. I am sort of raising my hand to say " I know the answer " . Honestly I don't know why they are knowledgeable and most doctors aren't. I would have to guess that big pharma dictates education and treatment protocols. This really ain't rocket science. I personally have lost respect for most docs, they are glorified drug reps. Everytime I have consulted a doc either they have done nothing or they have tried to do harm. That's crazy. Of course maybe I'm an anomaly LOL. gracia > Gracia > > once again you didn't answer the question rather just dispense your > opinion about synthroid. im surprised you didn't tell me to use armour > and life would be happy ever after. > > as for your LOL...sorry i haven't google searched my way to be a thryoid > specialist such as yourself. you continually knock Drs who went thru > schooling to become certified...but you claim to know so much more by > what?...reading literature on the web and barna brodes (sp?) stuff? > again..why are they knowledgeable and Drs aren't? cuz they push meds like > armour? > > > -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
Gracia, No, you sound like a pretty sane one to me. Re: Does synthroid drive up Estrogen? Gee I thought I did answer your question! Guest guest
Gracia you wrote: >Gee I thought I did answer your question! Hypothyroidism affects other hormones, in fact they all work together! The question was 'Does Synthroid drive up Estrogen'?...not 'Does hypothyroidism affect other hormones'. I know that Hypothyroidism causes all sorts of issues with hormones. Taking meds helps alleviate thes issues. The question is does them med have a side effect of driving up some hormones out of range...which isn't a good thing especially Estrogen for men. You really are the poster child for why Drs don't like to listen to their patients. Have you had any uptakes or scans of your thyroid gland? What were the results? --------------------------------- Relax. virus scanning helps detect nasty viruses!
Guest guest
OK! I just cannot see how $inthroid could drive up estrogen but it might very well expose prorogesterone/other hormone/adrenal deficits. When adrenals are struggling DHEA is often high or low, estrogen higher and progesterone low. Then everything goes low as adrenals become weaker. > Gracia > you wrote: > >Gee I thought I did answer your question! The question is does them med have a side effect of driving up > some hormones out of range...which isn't a good thing especially Estrogen > for men. This is true for sure!! When I have to talk to docs on the phone about my mother (who is very ill and untreated) I am treated very respectfully b/c I can talk the talk. They think I am a professional! However as a patient the only docs who like me are those with some intellectual curiosity and who feel secure about themselves. My BB doc loved me, said I knew more than most endos, and my present doc enjoys me too. We have a mutually respectful relationship, not the lopsided power relationship of traditional doctor/patient. No I have never had an uptake or scan of my thyroid gland. I have had a partial thyroidectomy at age 22 b/c I had hyper symptoms. Now I know thyroid gland was burning out and I actually needed iodine and Armour and adrenal meds. So unfortunately I was the victim of a medical mistake. I lost 30 years of my life b/c of no meds and doing what Josh Rubin suggests! At 51 I was ready to die, the only reason I am not dead is me! So scans and uptakes are pretty useless to me, I just needed the right meds.
