Guest guest
There are really no " side effects " from a hormone that you need. There is undertreatment or you may need a different med. IMO you should be educating yourself in order to get proper treatment. Look at http://www.geocities.com/thyroide http://www.armourthyroid.com If you want to get pg, your TSH should be around one or less. Do not accept it when the doc says TSH is " fine " and you have symptoms. Read some recommended books. Gracia > Hi, it's been a while since I posted, so I'll give a little > background. Guest guest
Hi , I would be suspecting your other hormone levels are responsible for your missing periods - I have not heard of this as a side effect of Thyroid Hormone - in any case the issue would either be overdosing which you don't seem to have symptoms of or reactions to something in the binders or fillers of levothyroxine - I doubt this would effect your periods but it is possible - you could try another brand. What are your tests results? If symptoms are returning you probably just need more T4 or you need to add t3. Taking t3 can help with muscle pain, dry skin, depression and probably more. You need to get your free T's tested and if they are not at the top end of the reference range then you need to take more hormones. That is the best I can offer on the information you have given - apparently a properly functioning thyroid gland is key when trying to conceive so don't play around with it - get a good doctor or you might be having to live with a lot of regrets. Guest guest
Hi , It seems to me that you could use a little additional T3...I recently read Shomon's first book about hypothyroidism, and many of the symptoms you describe reminds me of the symptoms she had when she was on Synthroid...and she goes on to say that many of her symptoms disappeared when she switched to Thyrolar (T3+T4). If you can find a doctor willing to prescribe extra T3 or Armour, you can see for yourself if it makes a difference. It may be all you need. Good luck! Guest guest
I am definitely not as well read as most on this board, but was diagnosed in July and started on 76mcg, upped to 125. My symptoms have started returning as well...I go back in a few weeks for testing. As for the mestrual cycle...mine is every 2 weeks. I know that a more often occurrence is a symptom, so I would have to say that a lack of one is odd if you feel you are under medicated. I would be concerned about this, especially if you are trying to get pregnant. From what I was told by my endo, miscarriage is more common with a hypo problem. Good Luck and I hope this helps. Guest guest
I agree with Gracia and Kerry. It sounds like added T3 is needed. And please, please, have progesterone checked. Guest guest
When I started on Synthroid my periods went from five moderate days, to two very scant days. Guest guest
gosh April - I wish I had been diagnosed before the hysterectomy - the thyroid meds alone would have probably helped the heavy bleeding. My doctor raised my dose to 75mcg. At the end of November, my TSH was fine, again. When I first started taking the meds, my symptoms--depression, hair loss, fatigue, dry skin, constipation, weight gain--began to subside. Guest guest
Hello, I've had some of the same things happen to me. The medicine obviosly is not working for you. Some of the other people in this group will help you ...they are more knowledgeable than I, but your husband needs to realize that you are sick. When you get the right medicine, it will probably help you so much, and your marriage. I was up to 175mcg of levoxyl and still gaining weight, and feeling so depressed. My husband is very mello, and put up with soooo much... he still does, but he understands that this is not me. He has gotten angry at me several times though for being so negative about everything. " He said you were never like this Tina " . I was always the one cheering everyone else up! Just hang in there a little while longer! It takes time to adjust this medicine...I've been trying for a year. Speak up at the doctors office and tell them you want something else! This is just my opinion... Thanks, Tina --- ruth joshua <ruth_inme@...> wrote: > Hi , > > i'm ruth here again,I live in > ,bc(canada)i'm reading all emails of this group n > keep on doing my thyroid studies.O.K LET ME TELL U > ABOUT MY PROBLEMS HERE- > i'm taking 150 mg thyroxine every morning from > last 3 months.i was diagnosed from hypo thyroid4 > yrs. back,my doc started my dosage from 25 mg > thyroxine, later 50 then 75 then 100 then 125 now its > 150 mg,most of the times my thyroid tests shows > everything under control sumtimes my tsh levels r > high but symptoms of hypo thyroid are still so much. > > Now-i don't know b'cos of my thyroid medication or > what(i really don't know)but i'm finding myself in a > very bad mental state everyday.Since my childhood i > was lil' angry kind of a girl but it was very normal > (may be b'cos i was the last born kid :)so being > lil' pampered but never ever irritating kinds or > angry kinds with anybody.i was very happy go lucky > kinds and always try to give comfort to my family n > friends. > Its been 5 yrs. of my marriage now n we r having 3 > yrs.old very lovely daughter and a nice husband but > i have made our life so complicated n miserable so > much:(( i'm having a severe problem of mood swings,i > get irritate so so fast ,get angry so fast n got so > much anger over nothing and so many times i feel > like to kill myself because i wasn't a kind of > person with such irritating n anger behaviour. There > r so many times when i find myself in a black out > mental state .I love my husband and daughter so much > but now my married life is in a very dangerous state > b'cos of my angry n irritating behaviour its > difficult for my husband to co-op with me anymore > (b'cos he is also a angry kind of a guy)now our > marriage is in a way to SEPERATION.My husband is > saying that it is very difficult for him to > concentrate over his work b'cos of everyday fights > n . b'cos of my behaviour.if anyone can help me out > from this painful mess THEN PLSS REPLY ME SOON., > > thank u so much all N GOD BLESS U ALL > regards > ruth > Ayers <sweetheart4u21502@...> wrote: > Hi, it's been a while since I posted, so I'll give > a little > background. Guest guest
Hi, I can understand what u mean.I used to have such a short fuse and would get angry over the smallest things. I think being irritable, having mood swings and being angry could be due to a lot of reasons including/excluding hypoT. You need to find the cause of this anger. If its due to your environment or circumstances then thyroid meds wont help. Guest guest
Hi, all! I know the previous is an old post, but my question deals with the same topic, so I thought I'd respond to it. I'm , the 43-year-old who posted earlier. My periods had been normal for a few months, but I am late this month, again! My doc said I wasn't perimenopausal. Although it is remotely possible (and the answer to my prayers if it is true!), I don't think I am pregnant. I was wondering if the problem might again be my thyroid. My doc said my labs were " normal " when I was tested the middle of March, but I don't know what the numbers were. Also, I know some of you recommended progesterone. Would the cream help me? Is it advisable that I should take it if I want to get pregnant? Do I need to be tested for progesterone, or can I just order it online? I also remember reading somewhere on here that warm weather alters the need for Synthroid. My dose is still 75 mcg. Do you think the hypo in warm weather is to blame for my lack of a period? I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks a lot, --- & Gail on <caniscaeli@...> wrote: > I agree with Gracia and Kerry. It sounds like added > T3 is needed. However, your dose is so low, that you are probably still in the adjustment phase. The stable replacement dose for women is about 200 mcg. For men it is about half that. The exact amount varies with weight. Do you have any other hypoT symptoms? Chuck
Guest guest
Dear Chuck, Yes, I have other Hypo symptoms, such as fatigue, sensitivity to cold, forgetfulness and depression. Also, my hair falls out, and I have dry skin. When I was first diagnosed, my TSH was 12.2. The last time it was tested, Mar. 15, the GP said it was " normal. " I don't know what the actual numbers were, but he wanted it tested again in 6 mos. I talked to the nurse today to see if he wanted it done sooner, given my return of symptoms and lack of a period this month. She will talk to him, and I am to call back tomorrow. I made the comment about the reduced need for Synthroid in warm weather because it seems like it is the increase of Synthroid in my body that interferes with my menstrual cycle. In the past 10 months, every time my Synthroid was increased, I would lose my period the next month. My dose hasn't changed since the beginning of the year--the last time I lost my period. Could my body's reduced need or increased absorption of Synthroid during warm weather account for the interruption in my menstrual cycle? Also, would progesterone cream be helpful for me? I have already received my gyn's approval to refill a previous prescription for medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to jump start my menstrual cycle if a pregnancy test comes back negative. Guest guest
, lack of period is a hypo symptom. I question the dose of $inthroid and if you might be better off on a different med or at least get some T3 add to T4. PLEASE do not take synthetic progestin (provera). IMO it is very dangerous stuff. It is very good for docs and drug companies but bad for us female humans. You can order progesterone cream from http://www.ourhealthcoop.com Read Hormone Solutions by Thierry Hertoghe MD.
