Guest guest
Bernadette, I think the dosage on your meds is still not quite high enough. A full replacement dosage is usually 1 microgram per pound of body weight. If you weigh more than 100 pounds then you probably need a higher dose. Guest guest
Celeste, thanks for your reply.I will have to persuade my doctor to increase my doseage of meds..I asked him already, but he thinks my blood results are normal. He thinks a tsh in the upper range of normal is ok.He said that thyroxine is a dangerous med and that overmedication could cause dangerous heart irregularities.I still think I need a higher dose. What does anyone else think of this heart thing? > > Hi,I,m new here.I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism five months > ago.I > > am taking 100 micrograms of Eltroxin (T4)a day,but I still feel > bad.I > > don't know if i'm on the right dose of T4 or if maybe I need T3 as > > well.My last tsh was on the higher side of normal, although I can't > > remember the exact numbers. Guest guest
Bernadette, I think your doctor needs to update his thinking to match currently accepted standards. A TSH in the upper range of normal is not right for most people. The average TSH for people without thyroid disease is 1.5. My TSH is 0.1 (but I don't recommend this for everyone). I do not have any cardiac irregularities. My resting heart rate is normally in the low 60's or high 50's (I'm athletic). My blood pressure is excellent (especially for my age). Does your doctor know what your free T4 and free T3 levels are?
