Guest guest
Hi all, Just looking for a bit of advice and need to vent really. Just come back from my GP practice where I was to see the nurse there for my routine blood test. After looking on the computer she said I wasn't due my blood test until June (I last had one at the beginning of March) The doctor I saw for the results of the last test said to have my blood test in two months which would technically the beginning of may but as I run out of my levothyroxine at the end of april I thought it wise to get my blood test in april so I could be reviewed before my meds ran out completely. She was a bit offhand and insisted that I wasn't to get my blood test till june and she wasn't going to do it. When I said I was to run out of my levothyroxine she said well I can prescribe you some more until your test is due. Had I not been newly diagnosed and had I felt that I was controlled on the dose I am currently taking (100mcg) this wouldn't have been a problem, but this last fortnight I have been getting some of my old symptoms back including oedema, memory loss, course hair/hair loss, waking with numb limbs, pain in my joints, tearfulness and feeling like I have something 'stuck' in my throat. So I insisted that she did my blood test as I felt I needed increasing. She made me feel like I had no idea what I was talking about and how could I possibly know, she made a half hearted attempt at taking my blood and failed and then suggested that I get it done somewhere else like the hospital blood lab. I demanded for an appointment to see my GP in which I will ask to be referred to an endo consultant as I feel my management has been less than acceptable. Basically I was diagnosed given thyroxine and left to get on with it. I wasn't told what the condition involved or even a minute scrap of information I have learned from this group, without this group I wouldn't have had a clue. Was I right to insist for a review? or is this all part and parcel of trying to get the meds evened out to the level I need? I have felt great on the 100mcg but as I said I now feel I am starting to need more. Is this normal? am I just getting used to the meds and you do get a lull after the initial burst of energy? I would appreciate any information/advice you could give me. Thanks for 'listening' you are all great. Ali
