Guest guest
Hi, Have you been tested for Free T3 and Free T4 levels? It's the T3 which acts at the cellular level. T4 (Synthorid) is converted into T3 by Liver and thyroid.A lot of times the body is not able to do this conversion resulting in symptoms. You should keep a count of the number of calories consumed in a day and the calories burnt. For losing weight,Calores burn must be greater than calories consumesd. There is a web site called fitday.com (suggetsed by a member of this group) whicn can help you in keeping a tab on this. Adrenal fatigue is another problem assocaited with hypoT.The saliva test for adrenals can be done to diagnose the same. A friend of mine had Grave's disease but her symptoms and TSH levels fluctuated between hyper and Hypo before settling to hypo.I'm not sure if his is the case with you.Have u been tested for anti-thyroid anti bodies(TPO,Tg)? Get hold of a good doctor who understands hormonal issues.. Puneet > > > I have had thyroid issues since I was around 8 years old. Guest guest
Hi Deborah! I can relate! I fell flat on my face and cried out for healing, and do you know, that many people started coming into my life! I learned about cleansing the body through different herbs, diet, and juices. For me, I gave up meat, dairy, and gluten. I am a gluten free vegan. It is not easy, but it has helped me so much. But the first thing I did was a 30 cleanse where you take herbs, drink cleansing shakes, juice, with no meat or dairy or wheat products. It changed my life. I had to reduce my thyroid meds, and after I had my baby, I went to see a natropath, and she told me that I need to include digestive enzymes. She also told me to go off synthroid and cleanse the liver, kidneys, etc. The day I went off the meds, I felt 100% better. I went from 200 pounds to 140, and I am still off. I will not get tested anymore, but that is my choice. I claim healing from our heavenly Father. I am not telling you what to do, but I found that following our Father's way, (nutrition, exercise (walking), pure water, sunshine, temperance (no smoking, drinking, or eating bad food), fresh air, rest, and trust in our heavenly Father) has changed my life. some great sights to look into is www.hacres.org Also, don't get discouraged! Our bodies are wonderfully and fearfully made! Also, I read that yeast can be a problem for hypothyroidism. So look into that. Also, I know that hydrodgenated oils are a problem for me as well. Blessings! > > > I have had thyroid issues since I was around 8 years old. I had Graves > Disease--MASSIVE Over active thryoid for which I took an enormous amount > of Propylthyuricil until age 17. Guest guest
Hi Deborah read and educate yourself and then you can get your life back. http://www.geocities.com/thyroide http://www.stopthemadness.com Thyroid patients whether hyper or hypo get very poor treatment. Guest guest
Hi Debra - I'm sorry to hear you are feeling so desperate - we have all been there. I think the best advice I can give to you is to stay calm - don't rush out and try a hundred things at once - you will waste valuable time, money and energy. As Gracia said - educate yourself - check out the links on the homepage. You clearly need better thyroid treatment - so first thing is for you to find a good doc - have you checked out the top docs list at About Thyroid .com or you can look for an osteopath in your area - they are supposed to be very good for a holistic approach with hormonal issues. I have been on a very high dose of T4 as well - 300mcg - but I had T3 added to it . It sounds to me like you need to get your life back for yourself - not just for your husband - weight of 289 lbs is very high and you are going to need some professional help to get it down - be realistic with yourself about this - ask your husband for help too. You need to take an honest look at your diet as well - weight loss is very hard for us with Hypothyroid - it is much harder when we don't eat well. Exercise gently if you can - otherwise if you are too exhausted don't push yourself - it will only make things worse. I hope some of this is helpful. regards, Kerry New Member with a HUGE problem! I have had thyroid issues since I was around 8 years old. I had Graves Disease--MASSIVE Over active thryoid for which I took an enormous amount of Propylthyuricil until age 17. This medicine was to prevent Thyroid Storms and other emergent issues that hyperactive thyroidism brings. For years, I thought I was fine. NOT! At age 32 and during my pregnancy with my last child, I found out that I was hypothyroid....TSH 15. I was put on Synthroid and that was that. Since then, I have been unable to resume my pre-pregnancy weight of 160lbs.--I am now at 289lbs! I am tall, at 5'9 " and most of my weight is centered in my abdominal area. I say all that to say this......I now have a TSH of 40! My Triglycerides are out of sight, my Cholesterol is at 289 with LDL and HDL being completely unacceptable, etc. My doctor has up'ed my dosage of Sythroid to .350mg...the highest EVER in his practice! My friends say that I could be diabetic which is causing the weight to be focused in my abdominal area...my glucose is at 120 after meals, which is good. I am confused! I want to be a healthy 41 year old mother of four! I am tired ALL the time, I have no drive to be ambitious anymore, and I truly can feel as though my chemistry is fried! What should I do? Change doctors? Try natural medicine or diets? Holistic medicine? What kind of Doctor do I go to? Does anyone have any advice because I sure could use some guidance and lots of support right now! I feel awful! I want to get better and have a life with my husband! He told me just this weekend that he really wanted to go to a convention in Kentucky next month and that because it would require a lot of walking, and due to my present health situation, he didn't feel as though I could keep up with him for the three days, and he wouldn't want to put me in jeopardy so he was thinking about asking his father to go with him. THAT WAS EMBARRASSING AND HUMILIATING AND HUMBLING TO SAY THE LEAST! I really need your help. Please feel free to be as honest as is necessary as I am open to anything that might help my medical situation! Diet, exercise plans, doctor referral, website referrals, anything! Guest guest
Dear , Thank you so much for your lovely reply! I, too, am a very spiritual person and have been in prayer regarding my health, my life and my state of being. I believe that He has led me to this message board, first of all, to let me know that I am NOT alone in my ailment or plight and secondly, to have someone to connect to that is going through the basic same thing that I am right now. I felt like the lonely person on the island, per say, for a very long time! The fibromyalgia has kicked my behind for so long that I was beginning to believe that at 41 years old, that this was as good as it was going to get! Then, BINGO! The ole thryoid was found caput! I am doing research right now to find a naturopathic physician because I am certainly tired of taking pills all the time! Neurontin for the nerve pain for the ruptured lumbar disc. Ultram for the pain...or Lortab if it is a REALLY bad day. Zanaflex for the muscle spasms secondary to the Fibromyalgia Synthroid .350mg for the thyroid. Toprol for angina pain. Lexapro for the nerve pain and depression. I am a walking pharmacy and I hate it! After reading some of the messages I have received, I am finding out that my thyroid may be causing alot of my other symptoms, too! The lumbar disc, well, it is blown out and that is that, but all the other stuff? Who knows! Well, anyway, enough of that.... Thank you again for your reply and please remember me in your prayers as I go on a quest to find out what is truly wrong! Many thanks, Deborah > > > > > > I have had thyroid issues since I was around 8 years old. Guest guest
Deborah, You sound a lot like me. I had a spinal fusion thirty years ago for a ruptured disc. It has been painful ever since. At this point in my life I'm assuming every physical problem I have, has been caused by hypoT. I think now that my angina pain is actually coctochondritis (lots of info on the web about this). For the hypoT I started out on a T4 medication, progressed to Armour. Both helped many things, but failed to aleviate the Fibro pain. I was able to convince my hormones Dr. to let me try straight T3 (as advised by Dr. Lowe among others) and I have been titrating upwards every four days for the past six weeks. I'm on 75 mcg time-released T3 every twelve hours now, and I do believe it is starting to make a difference in the pain. It's too early to know for sure, of course, whether this is the answer for Fibro. But I am hoping it is. BTW, I am also taking various vitamins and pregnenolone, DHEA, 20 mg Cortef. And one other thing, my hormones Dr. advised a magnesium/malic acid supplement for my muscle cramps in my legs and feet. If I stop taking them for a couple of days, those cramps came back bigtime--not nice. I take a product called " Myalgia X " which is supposed to be taken twice a day, 2 pills of 300 mg magnesium each. Because magnesium should not be taken anywhere close to thyroid meds, I take my T3 at 7:30 pm, and my magnesium at 11:00'ish before bed, along with my calcium.
