Levothyroxine, or levothyroxine sodium, is the generic name for the drug

(T4). Unithroid, Synthroid, Thyrox, Levothroid, Levo-T and Levoxyl are

all U.S. trademark names for the same chemical.

<http://www.thyroid-info.com/drugs/synthroid.htm>In Canada, you will

find it called Eltroxin and PMS-Levothyroxine. Outside the U.S. there

are a plethora of equivalent brands: Euthyrox, Thyroxine, Berlthyrox,

Droxine, Eferox, Elthyrone, Eltroxin, Eutirox, Letrox, Levaxin,

Levotirox, Levothyrox, Levotiroxina, Oroxine, T4KP, Thevier,

Throxinique, Thyradin, Thyradin S, Thyrax, Thyrax Duotab, Thyrex,

Thyro-4, Thyrosit, Thyroxin, Thyroxin-Natrium, Tiroidine.

However, the dosages between brand names are not equivalent. Any time

you change manufacturers or formulations, you need more tests and

titrations to adjust the dosage.

This should all be quite independent of C.O.P.D. as long as the dose is

optimized. If you are undermedicated, slowed metabolism can add to the

problems of hypoxia and slows healing. I am not aware of any

specifically pulmonary side effects on the hypothyroid side.
