Hi -

Sounds like you a making a difference - good for you! I feel bad for the kids

that rely on school lunches as their only good meal of the day - processed,

fatty, disgusting food is what they get to look forward too - yuck!!!! So sad!

When my daughter was in kindergarten & she loved salad, we'd pack her a little

salad with cottage cheese in a small wide thermos container and we used to put

her salad dressing in little film containers. Worked out very well - & a bunch

of the kids in her class started bringing salad in too!!!

As you said snacks & water are soooooooo important as well!

take care,

Hi Chriss,

I'm very passionate about this subject as well. My daughter is only 16 mos

old, but I plan on doing the same things as you do. There are a few schools

in the country that have totally redone their cafeterias with healthy food

(and no soda). Perhaps you could find out how they have managed to do it.

I used to work at an afterschool program and they did a pretty decent job,

but I prefer the least processed options. My best friend and I would love

to open a program that has organic food and perhaps have our own garden

there. We both have tons of experience in this area......

There is a Restauranteur in California that just recently instituted

a very interesting program within one of the schools. It is a gardening

Co-op in which the students all take turns caring for the garden, and

they serve what they grow in the luchroom.

I am trying to find out more!

I know it will be difficult to do that where I am because we

have a very short growing season.... but it may work in other

areas!

I will keep you all posted. And it is never too early to start

participating in the school your daughter plans to attend!..

I'm sure they would welcome it.

If we could make school less like an institution it would

benefit us all.

Chriss.
