Hi there,

that sounds like a bad experience - can you get your money back? Maybe

send someone over there to get it for you - you sound too vulnerable to

be involved with such people at this point.

I would be careful of weight watchers - for me it didn't help as they

are calorie focussed and use low fat - hi carb products and sugar is OK

whereas for a lot of us sugar is a complete no-no as it causes problems

with insulin and results in weight gain.

A lady on one of the other boards is losing weight with a high protein

diet - very low calorie as well - but it seems to be working for her. I

found Atkins the best of the ones I tried - I have about 15 lbs to lose

by the way - but it wasn't magical for me.

In my opinion it is better to get yourself balanced hormone wise and

stress wise first and then see about weight loss.

L.A. Weight Loss..I was told that a lot of

products were soy based?

I went to L.A. Weight Loss. I saw the ad on T.V. and thought gee $10.00

a week sounded good. I was never so embarrased in my life. After the

wonderful presentation, they wanted 589.00 up front! I winded up giving

her 100.00 cash (all I had) just to get out of there! I was afraid to

commit because a lot of their products had soy in them. I was told not

to take anything with soy as I am hypothyroid, but the lady insisted

that it was fine. She made me feel so bad about not wanting to spend

that much money and told me that I would just keep gaining weight. She

said that everyone gains 10 lbs. during the holiday and that instead of

25lbs. that I would have to lose 35lbs. Does anyone have info on L.A.

Weight Loss? She was sooo dang pushy...I hate that. I told her that I

would be back after the holiday to pay the balance of $189.00

(she knocked the price down to 289.00, when I told her that I didn't

have very much extra money around this time of year. Funny thing...I

got home

and called Weight Watchers..and they give you all the fees up front on

the phone! They tell you exactly how much money you will need

altogether. I'm

going tomorrow! I need to bring $11.00! I think I can manage that!

A few years back (when I was struggling with excess weight) I joined a weight

loss program. The idea in such progarms is to burn more calories than you

consume.I was put on a 1000-1200 calorie diet and was told to walk daily for an

hour. The diet was spread into small meals over the entire day,so I never felt

hungry or starved and did lose about 12 pounds.

If interested,u can try the same diet along with one hour of brisk walk. Its

FREE!!

You dont have to do it in a single stretch. You can start with 30 minutes a day

divided into 15 minutes in morning and evening. Then move onto an hour.

But I agree, initilay its difficult since the body does not have that

stamina. However,as the body gets used to it one actually starts enjoying the

drill as it make you feel very light.

Also, diet programs are meant for people who are obese due to lack of

exercise/overeating and not for those who are fat due to any medical conditon

(say HypoT).Hence ,it is always advised to firsr rectify the medical conditon

and then go for weight loss programs (if still required).

I googled LA Weight Loss and as I suspected they are a franchaise. Training on

their weight loss supplements is probably very limited and more than likely the

sales person is not a medical professional and is therefore not qualified to

tell you if the supplements are going to adversely effect you. Call and request

a note from your Dr. saying you have discussed this with your Dr and you are

unable to take the supplements due to the soy. Then fax the note to LA Weight

Loss and call and request that they mail you a refund. Most places like that

have a cancellation policy. If they refuse to provide a refund call your local

Better Business Bureau and make a complaint. I would also go to the corporate

office of LA Weight Loss. You should be able to do all of this over the phone

without going back to LA Weight Loss.

Please let us know how this works out.

Weight Watchers is not actually a low fat diet. It is in reality not a diet at

all but a life change. Here in America we have been trained to believe that

they appropriate portion size is 3 to 4 times bigger than it actually is.

Weight Watchers helps you learn and implement a healthy eating lifestyle. There

is a reason why Weight Watchers participants have the highest percentage of

people who manage to keep the weight they lose off.

You are right!!!Believe me I was in sales and I am aware of the sales

game but this lady was ruthless! If someone told me that they really

couldn't afford something right now...I wouldn't push them any

further. I'd tell them that I will call them after Christmas! She was

pushier than ANY sales person that I've ever met...Even in my sales

business! You are so right about waiting until the medicine is

adjusted. I know you are...but then I get depressed and mad at myself

and go out and do something stupid ...like going to L.A. Weight Loss!

I don't even want the money back..when they call I'll just tell them

that I gave them the 100.00 so that they would leave me alone, and

now would they please leave me alone. Lame I know! I just don't want

to deal with it.

I would read this after eating a big plate of

spagetti and meat sauce! I really think that I will

try the weight watchers after my meds are adjusted. At

least I will have some support. It's only 11 bucks a

week. I really don't have much to lose as far as money

goes and all I really need is some support. My whole

family lives in New Orleans and are far away from me

(Alabama). My mom has Graves and is very supportive

but like I said they are all in New Orleans...they are

all having their own problems with their homes

flooded. Thanks so much.

Jenn - I have done weight watchers and I can tell you it is definitely a

diet - you count points - and there are many normal health foods that

you can't eat (eg butter) because you would exceed your 20 points

ration. And YES it is a low fat diet for the same reason - fat earns you

the highest number of points so to keep under your allocated points per

day you really can't eat much fat of any kind healthy or otherwise. If

you look at WW products in the supermarket you will find that they are

all low fat.

but I wasn't putting WW down - it works wonderfully for people who do

not have any problem with Carbohydrates, That just happens to be most

of us on these HypoT boards. I didn't get overweight by eating an

American diet - I gained 15 lbs while eating the same diet I ate my

whole life with a weight of 105lbs - I've never eaten much junk food and

I don't overeat.

To illustrate the point I have three friends who went to WW - one it

worked brilliantly for - she does fine with Carbs, One it worked for a

while - she was very overweight and just restricting her food intake

took a lot of weight off - then she plateaud and couldn't get any

further, the last one it didn't work for and then she did Atkins for one

week and lost 4 lbs in that first week - she had to slow it down she was

losing so fast...........clearly this person does better on a high

protein diet.

There is no diet that suits everyone so its very important to discover

how different foods work in your body .
