Guest guest
Hi, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism almost a year ago. I notice the same problems with my eyes. In addition to feeling strained and my vision getting blurry, my eyes also get sore. My dr. said hypothryoidism does cause problems with eyes. He told me he thought the damage can be permanent. I'm not sure why. Keri <kowensby@...> wrote: Question! Can hypothyroidism cause problems with my eyes??? For a while, I've noticed that when I read, I get eye strain. Or my eyes will get blurry sometimes.. The strain causes headaches... Thanks, Keri O

That is about 1/2 the full replacement dosage for women. You should have been tested again about 6-8 weeks after your last increase. Your dosage should be increased gradually until your blood tests indicate you are no longer hypoT. L-thyroxine is also known as levothyroxine. It is indeed a generic term for Synthroid (a name brand). Visual disturbances are common with hypoT. In addition to eyestrain, you may see persistent after images. Guest guest
The eye problems could be from inadequate thyroid hormone as it is a symptom of low thyroid it could also indicate adrenal issues for the same reason. I had dry itchy eyes and blurry vision before I began taking hormones - all went away till recently when I ran out of my hydrocortisone and T3 all at the same time. Guest guest
Hi, Eye problems could also be due to adrenal issues.See the following : http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ Puneet Keri <kowensby@...> wrote: Hey. I don't remember who said something about this site, but it's a good one to check out. I look at the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I know I am hypo because I'm on medication, but I still experience over half of the symptoms that are on the list. Currently, I am on 100mcg of synthroid. Actually..the bottle says L-THYROXINE and that it is substituted for synthroid. The dosage was increased back in october from 75mcg. Question! Can hypothyroidism cause problems with my eyes??? For a while, I've noticed that when I read, I get eye strain. Or my eyes will get blurry sometimes.. The strain causes headaches... Guest guest
Keri, My dr told me my blurred vision, sore eyes, etc. were caused by my hypothyroidism. I asked him why it hadn't improved after I began synthroid, and he said there might be permanent damage. I was going to talk to my endocrinologist about this when I see him next month. My dr who told me this was not an endocrinologist. I am not sure why hypothyroidism would cause permanent damage and so I definitely have my doubts as to whether it's permanent. (or maybe I should say, I hope it's not!) keri owensby <kowensby@...> wrote: , Did your doctor tell you what types of problems it caused or was it just the straining and what not? Guest guest
Thanks for that site Puneet. My dr. thinks I had hypothyroidism for at least 4 years before being diagnosed, so that might have caused adrenal problems. I just always asumed that if adrenals caused hyper symptoms to occur, then that would mean bulging eyes (which I haven't had problems with), not the sore and tired eyes, blurred vision, etc. Puneet kumar <kumarpuneet2004@...> wrote: Hi, Eye problems could also be due to adrenal issues.See the following : http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/ Puneet
Guest guest
again - too low a dose to actually correct low thyroid . Guest guest
HELLO, IT HAS BEEN 5 YEARS SINCE I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HASHIMOTO'S THYROIDITIS. IT WAS MISDIAGNOSED AND GOT SO BAD I ALMOST DIED FROM IT... BUT, MY VISION PROBLEMS WERE ONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT DID NOT GO AWAY... (ONE OF THE REASONS I TYPE IN CAPS)... I'M NOT SCREAMING... IT HURTS TO LOOK AT THE SMALL LETTERS AND PROOF READ. I DID GO TO THE EYE DOCTOR. BASICALLY, AS ALL OF YOUR BODY BECOMES SORE AND MANY W/THYROID PROBLEMS END UP WITH FMS, YOUR EYES ARE THE SAME WAY... THE MUSCLES ARE SORE AND DON'T RESPOND TO WORK OUTS VERY WELL... I STILL TO THIS DAY DO NOT KNOW OF ANYTHING THAT HELPS THEM... AND I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. I DO WEAR GLASSES WHEN I AM ON THE COMPUTER... AND DRIVING AT NIGHT SEEMS TO BECOMING MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT. I KNOW I AM NOT SHEDDING MUCH LIGHT... I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE. ; ) P.S. I TEST 20/20 FOR EYESIGHT... GO FIGURE!!! BE WELL, PAMELA keri owensby <kowensby@...> wrote: , Did your doctor tell you what types of problems it caused or was it just the straining and what not?
