Re: Candida diet in pregnancy

I'd like to speak from experience here, if you don't mind.

I've been following a low-carb eating plan for a LONG time (for healthy

and weight loss.) Although I wasn't as strict when I was pregnant in

that I allowed some low-carb bread products and low-GI fruit, I COULD

have been that strict and still had a perfectly healthy baby. Our

babies don't need grain and fruit to grow. They need good nutrients,

protein, and healthy fats. Should I become pregnant again, I'll gladly

be as strict as I'm being now with my diet because my GI symptoms,

swelling, and yeast were awful with the grain and the limited fruit.

As for supplements, if you plan on breastfeeding, there are some that

you'll want to stay away from. Oil of oregano is a no-no. The garlic's

fine. (I took it all through pregnancy and breastfeeding.) I have seen

some evidence though that high-dose vitamin C should be avoided during

pregnancy. Just to be safe, I didn't take NEARLY as much as I do now.

kellymom.com is a great reference for supplements that are safe during

pregnancy and breastfeeding, and there's a group on called

PregnantAtkids that's for thos of us who're following a low-carb eating

plan while pregnant, breastfeeding, and TTC. (I can participate in both

groups, Bee, and they're beneficial in different ways.) There are a lot

of women there like me who've had successful low-carb pregnancies

although not everybody is as strict with their eating as we are on this

group.

Hope this helps!

Dear ,

I agree with what wrote to you.

believe the diet to be optimal in pregnancy? What about taking the

different supplements? Are there any I should stay away from? Should

I stay out of the anti fungal stage until after the baby is born, or

do you think it would be beneficial to proceed as normal?

Pleae don't tell me this is true. I am breastfeeding my 3 month old and

have taken Oregacyn ( a capsule of oregano oil) about 2-3 times since having

him in Jan. to help with my mastitis as well as thrush and then again to

take care of a cold that was coming on. It was wonderful for my symptoms

and would hate to eliminate using it for colds and such until is

weaned! Dr. Cass Ingram " turned me on to it " while he was talking about it

on the show " Know the Cause " and he said that it was safe--just as you would

use spices. Spices can't hurt you and when people start asking if a spice

is harmful, they should be asking if the drug alternative is harmful, not

the other way around. Just passing along what I have heard.

Thanks,

another pregnantatkid--thanks for the referral to this list Debby I am

finding it very informative!

Dear Dawn,

I wondered why said no oil of oregano when you are

breastfeeding too. I do not think it would cause any problems

whatsoever!

According to kellymom.com, the oregano oil can affect milk supply. If

it didn't affect yours, then I wouldn't worry about it. Personally, my

supply has always been in such trouble that I'm not willing to risk

ANYTHING that might compromise it.

With herbs, the recommendations aren't to avoid the herbs in cooking.

You don't get enough of the oil for it to pose a problem. You CAN,

however, get enough of the oil to affect things when you're taking the

essential oils and extracts.

If it didn't mess with your milk supply, I wouldn't worry about it, but

for those of us where it's a concern, I wanted to throw it out there.

Thanks for that! Didn't want to do my baby any harm! I only take the

Oregacyn when needed, not all the time.

Thanks for that. I haven't had a problem with my milk supply now that

is 3 months old. I know all your issues and my heart goes out to you. I

was in bad spot just after was born, but my situation has gotten much

better. I know that Freddie is older than and hope your issues get

resloved quickly.

Thanks for all of the replies to my question about the diet in pregnancy and

supplements. I have decided to start the diet on Monday, and have ordered some

coconut oil and celtic sea salt. I am really hoping this will finally help me

get a handle on my health. I'm sure I will have many questions in the coming

weeks.

Thanks for the support,

What's even worse, Dawn, is that I think the domperidone I'm taking to

incrase my supply is causing the extreme fatigue I've been

bexperiencing. Don't get me wrong - I still think there are thyroid

issues too. The dom is likely contributing though, so I'm going to give

fenugreek another try. There are some carbs in it, but I've got to be

able to feed my baby. It's much worse this go around since I had to

start supplementing him. *sigh*
