Guest guest
I was " diagnosed " with reflux. I found it hard to swallow and felt like I was choking when I was asleep. That was 3 years ago. I've since had a problem, during which time I could not take the reflux medicine. I stay on hypothyroid meds throughout. I am no longer on reflux med and rarely have those problem anymore. I think it was probably more related to the goiter issue. I have a goiter that, like you, gets large, then small. Back and forth. Sincerely, Naomi

Guest guest
Hi travelbug You will find some answers by going to our website www.tpa-uk.org.uk and clicking on the link "Hyperthyroidism" on the left hand side in the Menu. Read through everything there and then come back and tell us if there is anything you don't understand, or whether it has been helpful to you. Regarding your goitre, Have you ever had your blood tested to see if you have antibodies to your thyroid? Welcome to our forum, I hope you get all the help and support that you need here, but please ask lots and lots of questions if you need to. They can be trivial or massive *grin* - not too massive I hope as we are not medically qualified, but we do try to find answers if we can. Guest guest
You know what Niamh, I think we should start our own little paper writing down all the strange and wonderful things we have been told by our doctor. What a plonker! I had a poor lady phone me who told me she was losing the hair on her body -= to which the endocrinologists responded " well of course you are ....you can't grow hair because you are too fat - get slim and your hair will grow again " . OK everybody, anybody open to being the collector of such information please. Let us know how you get on with the thyroid specialist though won't you Niamh? Guest guest
Hi Shelia I must admit I did laugh in face when he said that, so I dont think that endeared me to him!!! Thank god that my doctor is a bit more clued up, even though typically the wont touch the thyroid as its in 'range' even though ive got symptons of hypo and hyper! The collection sounds good, god knows where they get their ideas from!! Guest guest
Hi Niamh, I too have a goitre, for the second time in my life! Don't think it's anymore to do with my build than it is yours! Dr's seem to fall into two lines of thinking with goitres, very all or nothing. Either whip it out or ignore it. Last time they whipped half of mine out, this time they're telling me it's nothing and come up for no reason, (and my symptoms are 'common' and nothing to do with it). Trouble is for most of us, neither is the solution, as they do become bothersome don't they. My last goitre used to wake me up a bit too. Scary! My bloods are also within their 'normal' range, but I have felt quite unwell over the last year, with a full hand of hypo symptoms, albeit comapared to some, on the milder side. Maybe you could get a copy of your results and post them here. I have had great support and advice from tpa, and it's knowledgeable members. After taking advice and reading up loads and loads, I am self treating with Armour, eight days in, and my husband is already noticing the differnce, early days, but I'm hopeful. I'd take your Dr up on her offer of seeing a real thyroid Dr if she knows one. I too had an ultrasound scan, followed by a fine needle biopsy, all very straightforward. Be warned, it is common to have to challenge the 'normal' blood results with the system. That's such a common story on this forum, sadly. Lots of luck and good health to you. x > > Hi guys > > De-lurking to ask a question, > > Has anyone been told that a goitre is down to your build?!? > > I saw a specialist on monday after one doctor I saw thought I had a > goitre. > > The specialist was a bit of a nightmare, wasnt intreasted in > discussing my symtoms as two previous blood tests have come back in > the normal > range, he then said that it wasnt a goitre but it was just my build!! > I also showed him the symptom checklist (from this website) which I > am displaying a lot of. Guest guest
Erm, I think that you might find that the reverse is true, if you are overweight then you tend to grow more facial and body hair!! Glynisrose ...you can't grow hair because you are too fat - get slim and your hair will grow again " .
Guest guest
Hi Niamh You did right to laugh in his face - here is another doctor who has earned the title 'Endoprat'. Can you please remember to delete the messages already read and leave just a portion of what you are responding to please, as it gets so frustrating for those reading Daily Digest as they get up to 25 messages in one email and have a lot of scrolling to get through to get to the next message. Many thanks Luv - Sheila > I must admit I did laugh in face when he said that, so I dont think > that endeared me to him!!! Guest guest
...you can't grow hair because you are too fat - get slim and your hair will grow again".<<<< If you have a small balloon and paint dots over it and then blow it up much bigger, the dots become further apart and the balloon looks less 'dotty'. That maybe explains his dotty answer Getting thinner doesn't grow 'more' hair it just looks as if it has lol. And yes, in real life, the reverse is the case. Also when your hormones get all messed up the hair goes from places you do not want it to and comes in places you would rather it didn't.
