Guest guest
Hi, I'm new here, so I'll just give a quick rundown on who I am. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago after a couple years of feeling terrible (following the birth of my 4th baby). I suppose a lot of people have similar stories to mine: the doc said my levels were still within normal range and refused to prescribe thyroid medication. He ordered me to exercise, but my head would spin wildly just walking up stairs. He ordered me to lose weight, but I couldn't even draw up a shopping list because my head was so fuzzy, I'd stare at the pen and paper for a minute... this after having run my own business for 15 years was scary. He prescribed anti-depressents because I could only get through the day with 14 hours sleep (thank goodness for school and childcare). For my loss of libido and menstrual problems I had a D & C. My watery eyes were attributed to a new allergy; my hair and nail problems to stress. Eventually I broke down in tears and demanded medication (as much for my kids sake as mine) and quickly began to feel normal again. I've had to increase the meds two times since then. I have two questions. Is anyone here from Australia and having T3 as well as T4? Secondly, I've had a cough for 3 months, have tried antibiotics unsuccessfully and thankfully have clear Xrays, currently being treated for rhinitis, and if that doesn't help then the doc will investigate asthma. I'm surprised to see a few letters to this list linking hypothyroidism and coughing. Can anyone explain why hypothyroidism could cause that, please? Thanks very much,
