No Armour is for life, that's for my Hashi's disease. My doctor is having

me stop the adrenal treatment....slowly by weaning off the Cortef. She

feels I have had enough time on the medication to allow my adrenals to heal.

The adrenals should come back on one I'm off the meds. She said I would

only need stress dosing occationally.

Hi LaCretia,

A tumor on my left adrenal gland was causing Cushings Syndrome which was

literally killing me, so they removed the left adrenal gland. The sugery was in

Dec. 1991 and they start you on predisone emediately during surgery and from

that time they start weaning you off of it and it takes one year to do that.

It's been so long I really can't remember the exact schedule. Just that after

he would lower my dose he would monitor me for a period of time to make sure I

wasn't going to go into crisis. Each time he would lower it I do remember I

would feel worse and worse until I feel like I do now. Not good.! I can't even

work.

Bev,

Sorry to get back to you so late. Did I understand that right...1 year to

wean off? What was your weaning schedule like? I'm curious...I'm down to

2.5 now and doing ok this week. Why did they remove your adrenals? It

seems that you were on the same treatment but, I didn't understand why they

removed them? I have had two crisis in the past 3 wks though. Now I'm

having cracked lips which is a sign of low B12 and I'm constantly going to

the bathroom... low salt I suspect. I drank a large helping of salt water

this morning and it really helped!

Bev,

That would mean you have 's disease now no? How much steroid

replacement are you taking? I've heard of cushings being caused by a

pituitary tumor but, not by the adrenals. Can you explain more about what

they found your adrenals to be doing? I find this intersting ;) Hope you

don't mind me probing you like I am. It's always nice to understand all

aspects of the endocrine... cushings, addison's...all ;) I have to run home

now...leaving work so, it will take me about hour before you will see me

back online. Take care :)

you do no need more testing, you need a brighter doc or you will end up

What do they measure to see it's low? Cortisol by blood? If so, how low

were you? I have times where I was just at the low end and I mean the very

low end of the range and felt like poop. Just curious how low...

HI LaCretia,

They drew blood. The am low was 5.90 and the AM normal range is (10.4 -26.4)

Have any thoughts on this?

What do they measure to see it's low? Cortisol by blood? If so, how low

were you? I have times where I was just at the low end and I mean the very

low end of the range and felt like poop. Just curious how low...

Do YOU have any thoughts on this??????? What does this tell YOU??????

Remember these blood tests are very inaccurate. Usually people are told

they are normal when they are very sick. so to fail one of these tests you

have to be very sick. What does this say about the quality of care you are

receiving????
