Guest guest
Gracia, I'm on T4 alone and am losing weight. Some people have T3 levels in the upper quadrant and don't need anymore and can still lose weight. It just may take more work than a person without thyroid problems. ----Original Message Follows---- From: " Gracia " <circe@...> Reply-hypothyroidism <hypothyroidism > Subject: Re: help! Guest guest
I went on a low-carb diet( Protein Power), and drank a gallon of water a day, and worked out with a neighbor 1 -2 hours a day. We did weights( pretty serious routine) for 3 days a week and some form of aerobics(kickboxing or walking our 3.5 mile neighborhood in 1 hour) almost every day. I didn't lose like she did which got me frustrated as it wasn't coming off of the scales, but my clothes SLOWLY but surely started to fall off. It CAN BE DONE. The trick I think is to find your carb level AND to get the weights involved to build muscle. Oh I'm also on t4 only. Guest guest
> > you will never lose weight on T4 alone---won't happen. > Gracia Well, as another perspective, I did lose weight. And continue to. But with me, I think a slow metabolism was only part of the reason I put on weight in the first place... because of other symptoms my exercise dropped to virtually NIL and I was depressed and comfort eating a little, etc. I feel good on T4 now (it took a couple years for my body and medication to settle together into a reasonably stable pattern, fingers crossed). I only lost a little weight for a while, just by being able to be awake normal hours every day and eating a little better. Then I realised that the amount I was exercising and eating was enough to maintain a healthy weight, but it wasn't enough to lose the excess I'd gained... it's the simple basic rules of slow dieting that have helped me lose more than 25 pounds painlessly over the last year. Good luck.

Guest guest
Hi and thank you. But...what do you mean by " carb level " ? > > How do you loose weight once your thyroid is medicated adequately? > > Ive been trying for 9 months. Doing everything right. Please help. Guest guest
Have you ever read any of the Atkins or really any of the low-carb eating books? Everyone has their own level of carbs they can handle before they either maintain or lose weight. Mine was evidently pretty low but then once my metabolism kicked in I HAD to put more carbs in my diet, or I couldn't get through my workouts nor my day. I probably ended up around 60-70 ( sorry, once I got used to the diet I didn't keep a journal and just kind of added in the good carbs) You just have to find the right combination for you. If you haven't read any of the low-carb books or websites, I would suggest that you do. Also, you might try looking at The Zone diet. It deals with the same thing but is a little more mathematical I think. I think the trick is keeping a food diary. Guest guest
Well, Ive been exersizing 5 days per week and eating low fat and low carb since december...no luck...im really thinking about liposuction Well I have been sort of lurking and learning here and went to Dr. yesterday for another test. I also have worked out 5 days a week, 12-1600 calories a day and weights 5 times a week too. I have gained and let me tell ya it is soooo frustrating to know that if it was a normal person they would be skin and bones. I am not able to do what it took years ago -I ran 35 miles or more a week, 1200 calories a day 10% fat and that was to maintain I did not lose at all. This was before I found out about the hypothyroid I have. I was told however by the Dr. to not worrry about the scale, watch my clothes and the fact that I am healthy is more important. Thin does not mean you are healthy. I have had two colds in 25 years and that is about it for me. I never even went to a Dr. till last year and it had been over 20 years since I had been to one. If you keep up your routine if anything you will be healthy and that right now is most important I think. -
