Guest guest
Hi Jan, I went through the same thing and no one, including my doc could explain it - hopefully someone here could.... Guest guest
Jan, I am on 150mcg of T4 and 37.5 of T3,I am finally feeling better but it was not until I started with the progesterone cream that I got my energy back.I tried DHEA but IMMEDIATELY started to gain weight like crazy.Maybe try some prog.cream.My cortisol levels were really high and it is possible that with all of the exersize that you have been doing that your cortisol levels are going high...just a thought...:) Deneen:)
Guest guest
Deneen, I just read somewhere that extra C can suppress some of that high cortisol??? I don't know if it works or not? But you could try an extra gram a day and see if you don't feel any better. > Jan, > I am on 150mcg of T4 and 37.5 of T3,I am finally feeling better but it > was not until I started with the progesterone cream that I got my energy > back.I tried DHEA but IMMEDIATELY started to gain weight like > crazy.Maybe try some prog.cream.My cortisol levels were really high and > it is possible that with all of the exersize that you have been doing > that your cortisol levels are going high...just a thought...:) > Deneen:) > > > >

Guest guest
I'm no expert, but I'd say you're on the right track. It does sound like you might be having problems with the hormones getting into your cells or the possible underlying adrenal problems are causing a lot of problems. But I'm just guessing here. Wish I could help more. Hugs, Sheila janjv1311 <janaina@...> wrote:TSH - 0.01 (0.27-4.20) Total T4 - 9.91 (4.60-12.00) Free T4 - 1.34 (0.93-1.70) Total T3 - 147.40 (80.00-200.00) Free T3 - 0.48 (0.30-0.51) I am still feeling hypo symptoms: sleepy, fatigue, depressed, tongue is big and scalloped, skin is yellow from the carotene, gaining weight, a bit of edema, hair is falling. And I now have neuropathy on my feet and hands - which got much milder yesterday, with the extra Cytomel. I don't have any hyper symptoms, like sweating, hunger, or insomnia (ha! I wish I did. I sleep for 10h a night and still need a nap later). I was on 125mcg Synthroid + 25mcg Cytomel when I had the test. But thinking back to the last time I felt good, I was on way more Cytomel - 50 + 50. So I thought I'd decrease the Synthroid to 100 and increase the Cytomel to 37.5 and then maybe 50. Does this mean I now have a cellular level of resistance to thyroid hormone? Cause I mean, my FT3 is way up there. If it were actually reaching my cells, I wouldn't feel better by more T3, I'd feel hyper. Any comments appreciated. Jan
Guest guest
really high cortisol levels means you need cortisol. Guest guest
Gracia, why would you need cortisol if your cortisol levels are high???.....progesterone cream will balance out your levels. Deneen:)
Guest guest
I had been using progesterone cream for a few years when cortisol was tested. At first I think progesterone helped my adrenals a lot, but I have adrenal hyperplasia or else pituitary problem, so have had symptoms since birth. 24 hr urine test from AAL showed cortisol and other hormones (even progesterone!!!) to be very low. Saliva test for cortisol was high normal, high, high normal, high. What this means is that adrenals are " burning out " . I tried cortef and felt immediately better, plus adding 7-keto DHEA. Guest guest
Hi Gracia, My youngest daughter has late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia. (LOCAH) Her testosterone & her DHEA were high. She's on 5mg of prednisone a day. Best to you! Guest guest
I've read something that TSH and Free T3 and T4 are just often not reliable tests. Dr. Shames trusts the Total T3 and T4 more. According to those, I could stand to take more hormone, so that is what I did. No hyper symptoms whatsoever, my tongue is a bit less scalloped and the neuropathy is almost totally gone. There is another theory is that we have the hormone in our blood, but it is not necessarily reaching the cells. It is a resistance on the cellular level. In that case, the only way is also to take more hormone. Guest guest
Thanks, Deneen. I am having estrogen and progesterone tested soon, as well as cortisol. I was taking the DHEA, but it made no difference - I was gaining weight before, kept gaining at the same rate. I quit it now. Let's see if I notice a difference. I am on 50mcg Cytomel and 150mcg Synthroid now, although it hasn't been long enough on the Synthroid to feel a difference, I feel better with the extra Cytomel. Still gaining though, but the other symptoms are not as bad as before. Guest guest
Thanks, Sheila. I read an article that estimates around 5% of patients need to be in the hyper range to feel decent - I guess that describes us. That is, if you choose to believe the Free tests for starters. Dr. Shames says they are disappointing, and he prefers the Totals.
