Has anyone heard about the benefits of Gamma Oryzanol for GERD? If

so, have you tried it--benefitted...used the extract or rice bran oil? I have a

bad case which seems to have gotten worse of late--especially since pepcid

and prevacid intake (burning throat). I'm also seriously constipated since

starting the Nystatinj so that could be making the reflux worse. How can one

have low stomach acid and yet serious acid reflux? I have all the symptoms of

low stomach acid yet the burning and belly growling and the diagnosis and

damage done must mean I'm not low acid??

I haven't heard of Gamma Oryzanol or rice bran oil but am willing to try

anything to

get rid of my GERD ongoing problems same as you described your symptoms.

Mine's not going away on the diet but not any worse than usual lately as you

said

yours is. But I'm not taking any ant-acids like Prevacid or Nexium

which I did try some time ago as prescribed by my doctor & it made it worse

at

the time so I stopped taking them within a week. So if you were taking

Prevacid, etc

recently, that could have made yours worse.

I heard of taking Carafate liquid to coat the throat, esophagus & stomach,

an old

remedy that used to be prescribed by doctors that benefitted many. But they

don't

prescribe it or even offer it anymore because it's not one of the more

expensive

antacids they prescribe nowdays. You have to ask for it. I will ask for it

when I

get a new doctor next week (because of insurance coverage change over).

I'm also mystified by my own low stomach acid yet still having GERD/acid

reflux/

heartburn from what seems to be an overacid condition. It's been explained

to me that's from hiatal hernia or dysfunctional LES valve & the food not

digesting

properly due to having candida overgrowth in the stomach & digestive organs.

For which intaking HCl (hydrochloric acid) with meals plus digestive enzymes

is

supposed to help get rid of.

So far tho, in the last month of doing that, it hasn't helped me at all tho.

Neither

has sleeping on a l l/2 foot raising off the floor of my bed-head or

sleeping up

in a recliner or propped up on pillows in bed which hurts my low back/spine

problem like crazy.

Right now I recently started making & drinking kefir (fermented, cultured

milk) to

see if that works again as well as it did months ago before I went on this

diet when

I drank a commercial kefir for a week to test it. It seemed to help back

then so I

could sleep flat & not be too much bothered by the GERD. Then I stopped

drinking it when I went on this diet tho & tried rejuvelac made from wheat

berries

& then cabbage rejuvelac which tasted horrible & I was upchucking it so

stopped

making & drinking that. Cabbage rejuvelac is actually the only fermented

probiotic/

digestive enzyme drink that's recommended on this diet.

But I'll try anything, as I said, whether it's on the diet or not, doctor

prescribed or not.

I learned of comfrey root & sweet flag herbs for GERD on another health

group, that

helped one woman get rid of hers & heal her esophageal erosion over a period

of time

while continuing to drink kefir with meals & in between. So I'm going to

order those &

try them next & continue drinking the kefir since it's not making mine worse

but is soothing

to drink & I hope it's helping as it has helped others. But it takes time.

==>If it is from rice bran, firstly getting oil from rice would be

extremely difficult requiring a lot of processing. Secondly it

interferes with hormones:

This is from the website:

Cautions

Gamma-oryzanol appears to be quite safe and free of significant side

effects, although more reseach in humans is needed.

People with an underactive thyroid should be aware that gamma-

oryzanol can lower levels of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) as

well as alter test results used to monitor this condition.

Because of its apparent effect on hormone levels, pregnant or breast-

feeding women should avoid taking gamma-oryzanol in highly

concentrated supplement form.

==>Pepcid and prevacid are not helping you. Burning in your throat

indicates you have candida growing there.

==>Symptoms of low acid and high acid are exactly the same.

This is what I just posted about. They was a doctor on the Today Show

recently talking about this that low stomach acid more likely to be

the cause than excess stomach acid. Try chewing gum after a meal

also. That stimulates your own digestive juices to aid digestion and

get the food moving along and not staying in your stomach.

I often have a bit of excess stomach acid which I notice before

bedtime. I drink about a half a juice glass full of aloe vera juice

before bed and it alleviates any stomach acid issues for me.

just thought I'd throw that out there....

I've been drinking aloe vera juice too. So far it hasn't helped a bit. I

haven't tired it before bedtime tor a nap ho. I'll try that.

Thx,
