Guest guest
Hi, killroy. Sounds very similar to what I went through about six years ago. I don't know if you are female or male, but I had a condition known as Postpartum Thyrotoxicosis. My thyroid gland function would fluctuate between hyper and hypo. I was HYper when I was having major anxiety attacks. My doctor then did NOT run thyroid function tests. He assumed because I had given birth six months prior, that It was a classic case of depression.... There was nothing classic about it! Anyway, I too was put on antidepressants of all names and doses, and it only made me worse! That's because when your thyroid gland is not functioning properly, you cannot process any of those drugs. They just stay in your body and poison you. My first dose of Paxil at 40mg put me in the emergency room. They assumed I had taken too many because my pupils were dilated and I was unresponsive. I was admitted to the psychiatric unit of the hospital and kept for seven days. Upon admission however, they did run a thyroid panel and a C A T scan. Neither of them were ever read. Just stuck in my file and that was that. After I was released, I continued to have problems and when I finally got down to 85lbs and was looking for a train to jump in front of... I decided to throw away all of the pills and start over! It took me a good eight months to rid myself of all of the drugs, But, after that I found someone to listen to me, and the mystery was solved rather quickly. I am considered HYpothyroid now and I take 100mcg of synthroid everyday never to have those anxiety or depressive symtoms return! Many of the first signs of thyroid disfunction are emotional and cognitive. If you know this is not normal for you... seek help right away. Don't get sucked into the psychiatric trap. Happy to help you in any way! .

Guest guest
I started my treatment for Hypothyroidism on Armour. It did not work for me. By the third day on Synthroid, it was as if the lights came on! Synthroid is molecularly identical to our own T4 and your body cannot tell the difference. There are suttle differences in Armour however because it comes from a different animal. Some folks have " allergic " reactions to it. I for one. It also tended not to be consistent. I know it's supposed to be tested etc... but, I would have an ok week and then a bad month. I have done much better on synthroid. It would not hurt to try both and see how you do. There are others as well.
Guest guest
I suggest you go get some good TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) from a wll experienced chinese doc. It can help your nervous system, every system to rebalance itself just my moving energy around your body. I worked tremendously for me as well as for my sleep. I had the same problem as you, IDENTICAL! Could not sleep because of the terror. I have never been so burned out like this in my life. I wish you could have seen me before and after. I had to take sleep meds just to knock me out and Zoloft 50 mg. In October I went and seen a chinese doc after praying about it incessantly as well as after talking to my friend from Dallas who is a naturapath and how acupuncture saved her as well as having some good naturopathy done. She told me to go everyday. I knew I had to be very compliant and very open if I was to get beyond this illness and leave it behind. I have had 60 accupuncture treatments up to date going in every day. At the time I started, I was a nervous wreck. I was crying when I came in. Restless. Agitated. Angry. Afraid. Scared. Scared about everything for no reason. Horrible panic attacks and nightmares. Never sleeping for days and months to the point I needed traquillizers just to relax me. Now I am calm!! I am now off ALL the sleep meds and sleeping great without having to change anything. My Zoloft is still the same dose. My psychiatrist is amazed at my improvement. He liked the idea of acupuncture especially since the WHO (World Health Organization) has stated there is much scientific evidence behind it. He told me to keep going to see her. Why not try a 5000 year old medicine and see if it helps with some things if not all. Knock on all doors. You'll never know what's behind them if you don't open all of them. I am going to go for more treatments after a rest and try to go off the Zoloft and also going to be starting T-3 treatment and adrenal support. All I can say is try the acupuncture for now. Go everyday. Like I say you may need 4 periods of 15 treatments each, that is about 60. You may need less than that. You cares about cost. What's your sanity worth? If it helped me to stay sane from all the burnout I have, it can help anyone. I am certain I should be dead. Hope that helps. Chris Am I going crazy or what???????? Guest guest
do any of you take anything for anxiety? prescription or herbal? i've been bad lately - I'm doing way too much. On Saturday, my legs were actually moving from my nerves (shaking). My friend told me that her dad takes Tranzene (?sp) only as needed. I definitely wouldn't take something I had to take every day. My friend also mentioned Kava and Valerian Root. Any thoughts? _________________________________________________________________ Learn how to choose, serve, and enjoy wine at Wine @ MSN. http://wine.msn.com/
Guest guest
Hi, i went through a period of really bad anxiety before I was diagnosed. did your doctor run a thyroid panel? just feeling your neck is not enough. Do you have other symptoms of thyroid problems? I'm terribly sorry for what you're going through. Hang in. Guest guest
you arevery fortunate to have been helped...i have been trying to tell health care professionals for 27 yrs that i have a hypothyroid problem, but it never shows up on the tests ...so, i have been on antidepressants for over 18 yrs, and dont feel any better..a naturopathic dr did eav testing and said that my thyroid and adrenals were working at 15 percent compacity and that is why i am always forgetful, fatigued and stressed/depressed, but that she cant get me anything strong like i need because she isnt a medical dr...so i tried 2 medical drs ...one laughed at me and the other ran tests and of course nothing turns up on paper...he doesnt believe me so i cant even ask for any other kind of testing..guess i have to go thru the next 27 years miserable and feeling crazy and forgetfull and the rest of the symptoms i have...thanks for listening >From: Aprilcupcake@... >Reply-hypothyroidism >hypothyroidism >Subject: Re: Am I going crazy or what???????? >Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2004 22:18:04 EST > >Hi, killroy. Guest guest
I remember not too long ago, there was quite a bit of negative information out there regarding Kava. I will look that up and post it. Valerian is very affective, but can make you extremely drowsy. It is better in " tea " form. The capsules tend to make you burp, and the pills really stink to begin with... All of my anxiety issues were resolved with thyroid meds however. Are you currently on anything? Chriss. Guest guest
My first round of tests did not show anything either. TSH was normal. It was not detected until my doc ran a total T4 and most importantly a reverse T3. Reverse T3 was nonexistent. Had she gone by the standard TSH I would not be on meds now and would probably be much worse. I have been helped dramatically by thyroid medication. What sort of testing have you had?. Chriss. Guest guest
you can pick up natural thyroid at health stores or order armour thyroid overseas.. you could look for an endocrinologist and not an internal md Re: Am I going crazy or what???????? > >Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2004 22:18:04 EST > > > >Hi, killroy. Guest guest
I'm on Levoxyl and Cytomel. I'm pretty sure that my anxiety is situational. I'm a full time mom; I tutor at night and am planning a wedding in May. I also have problems within my extended family, but don't we all. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Aprilcupcake@... Guest guest
I am glad you are doing well on $ynthroid but it may lose it's effectiveness after a while. I don't think you were allergic to Armour. You might have been on too low a dose or needed other hormones. With Armour you can't treat to the TSH test. Hello everyone and once again THANKS for all your feedback. I did call the Dr.'s office yesterday and told the phone answerer that I could not tolerate Paxil even though that is supposed to be the lowest SSRI out of the bunch to be able to stand. Those drugs made me feel weak and severly wimpy. And answering your question about being female or male, I am a 44 year old male. I have always had a slight bit of social anxiety and after 3 or 4 beers or drinks I could relax and " be myself " . It's not like I drink alot or at home but in group social situations it just always was a relaxer. I wonder if Xanax or valium would help? I don't know if I have hyper thyroid or not. What should I tell my all knowing physician. Maybe a second opinion is what I need. Keep those cards and letters comin'! I appreciate the info and kind words.
