Guest guest
Hi Bee! I understand about die-off, healing symptoms, retracing, etc. but am a little confused about something that has been happening the past week. I have had some swelling of my left calf, like edema caused by HBP or diabetes, which I could attribute to retracing as neither of these are a factor for me anymore; BUT I also have a red area just below the swelling that itches and burns intensely. Applying coconut oil topically helps for a little while, as does dry brushing the area (to sort of scratch the itch). I have a friend who is certified in acupunture and Chinese medicine. She suggested using the handle of a metal spoon to rub over the area, just like dry brushing. This seems to help for a longer period of time but the feeling is very intense. I have cut out use of any anti-fungals other than coconut oil for now. Have also bathed the area with a cloth (like a compress) soaked in epsom salts and hot water (I do not have a tub and my disability prevents me from getting in one). Is there anything else I can do? And, is this healing or do I need to go see a doctor? (Not my favorite option.) Thanks, Ellen

Swelling is the body's way of immobilizing an area; redness is blood pooling at the site to heal it better; and itching and burning are caused by the body's immune system sending histamines to the area to heal it. So, yes, it is a healing symptom, and if going off antifungals didn't alleviate it you should stay on them. Put 2 drops of oil of oregano or clove oil in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and rub it in several times a day, and alternate it with patting on baking soda. It will take it's own time to heal but don't be concerned. The body externalizes toxins and healing to the skin to protect vital inner organs. The body knows best! Guest guest
Thanks for your quick response Bee. You have eased my mind and hopefully the oil of oregano/coconut oil mixture alternated with baking soda will ease some of the intense itching and burning. Even if it doesn't I will muddle through...just have to keep telling myself it's because I am getting well. Guest guest
Ellen, Definitely try the baking soda Bee suggested. I had really bad poison ivy on my shin two weeks ago. I made a paste of 1 part baking soda, 1 part cornstarch and added just enough water to make a thick paste. I spread this on the irritated area, and let it sit for about 15 minutes, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter. Then I wiped it off and went on with my day. Doing this gave me relief from itching for about 8-12 hours. I am severely allergic to poison ivy, but get it often. I have never had any treatment give me as much relief as the baking soda. It healed faster than normal too. Hope you feel better soon, --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new .com. It's not radically different. Just radically better. You can also drink 4 cups of ground clove tea (in the recipe files) per day to help your body detoxify, and other suggestions in my article: -Vitamin C - take 4,000 mgs when the symptoms first start to appear, and take 1,000 mgs every hour until the symptoms subside or bowel tolerance is reached, i.e. loose stools or diarrhea. When you reach bowel tolerance take less vitamin C each hour until you reach bowel tolerance again, and so on. Vitamin C helps the body detoxify since it is a powerful antioxidant. -Take baths with Epsom salts, salt or 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide. Baths help draw toxins out through the skin which helps minimize symptoms. Add two cups, or 500 grams, of Epsom salts or one cup of salt to the bath (you can also mix Epsom salts and salts half and half). Soak for 15-20 minutes. Use 1/2 cup of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide in 1/2 a bathtub of very warm water. Soak in the tub until you sweat. -For relaxation do this for 15 minutes every day. Lie on the floor with your feet on a chair so your thighs are at a right angle to the seat of the chair and the calves of your legs are lying across the seat of the chair. It is as simple as that. Note: This also helps your body heal because it pools blood into the abdomen. -Do dry skin brushing which will stimulate the liver and adrenal glands, increasing their ability to handle the toxins – see the Candida Group Dry Skin Brushing File. Guest guest
Thanks ! And especially Bee!! I tried it yesterday and again last night before I went to bed. I just rubbed the baking soda on like you would baby powder and it really does help a lot. Didn't have the urge to rub or scratch, even once, for 7-8 hours. The area is not so red this morning either. It's great how something so simple and inexpensive can help so much. Hey...maybe that's part of my problem since this just started 7-10 days ago. ==>Vitamin C - take 4,000 mgs when the symptoms first start to appear, and take 1,000 mgs every hour until the symptoms subside or bowel tolerance is reached, i.e. loose stools or diarrhea. I am not able to get in and out of a bathtub by myself and since I live alone... I have been using compresses soaked in epsom salts though and spending 30 minutes in the suana at least every other day. Would love to do it every day but my schedule is hectic so I can't always get there. ==>For relaxation do this for 15 minutes every day. However I might be able to lie on my bed and put my feet up against the wall. I used to do that all the time as a child. Drove my mom nuts!! ==> Do dry skin brushing which will stimulate the liver and adrenal glands, increasing their ability to handle the toxins - see the Candida Group Dry Skin Brushing File. ~~~That was the first thing I tried and it does help some. Not as long as the baking soda though. Hugs, Bee Hugs back at ya! And thank you for being here for all of us! Ellen
