Hi Pam.

To Jeanne's list of die-off symptoms I would add headaches. Mine don't

usually last too long (maybe 2 or 3 hours) and aren't bad enough to need a

pain reliever.

Dear Group,

Die-off symptoms are flu-like symptoms caused by the candida being

killed off releasing high numbers of toxins into the system.

Unfortunately when the yeast is overgrowing it also creates flu-like

symptoms caused by the candida excreting high numbers of toxins. The

release of toxins is the same in both instances.

For instance, if you ate too many carbs, sugar, alcohol, etc. that

feed the yeast, making it overgrow, you will experience exactly the

same symptoms as die-off.

Also, to complicate matters even further food sensitivities caused by

a leaky gut and allergies create similar symptoms.

It can be difficult to determine what causing your symptoms. Being

on the diet alone will not cause severe die-off symptoms even during

the initial stage, unless you've done it cold turkey - all at once.

If you change over to the candida diet gradually some yeast are being

eliminated but not enough at one time.

Therefore I would recommend that you start on the diet gradually

until you are following all the recommendations. You would also

start taking some important supplements. It idea is to cut off the

food supply to the yeast and build up your immune system with diet

and supplements.

While you are changing your diet is when you should be identifying

sensitivities and allergies. This is done by the elimination

process. You can also get someone to muscle test you on foods. My

naturopath muscle tested me and it eliminated the guessing game.

Once you've accomplished that, and not until then, you should start

on a " good " strong anti-fungal. Die-off symptoms cannot be mistaken

at this point. A " good " antifungal will kill off yeast in high

numbers - you can regulate the rate at which they are killed by

taking a smaller dose and gradually increasing it. Pushing through

this phase and being consistent with your diet and supplements is

very important. The idea is to kill off candida right?

At the same time you add an antifungal you can also start on

probiotics.

But if you slip with your diet, i.e. too many carbs, sugar, alcohol,

foods you are sensitive or allergic to, or exposure to environmental

substances you are allergic to, you will experience die-off like

symptoms. That is why sticking to the diet is critical. If you

start on antifungals and are not sticking to your diet or have not

identified your allergies you will not know what is causing your

symptoms nor when to increase or decrease the antifungal.

This is also why I recommend antifungals and probiotics that are

simple and don't contain so many ingredients. Too many ingredients

open the door to sensitivity reactions. In my opinion nystatin

powder is the best antifungal. It is even safe to take during

pregnancy. It can be used in so many ways to kill candida (as listed

in my article) yet it does not get absorbed into the system.

Second to that is raw certified organic garlic and oregano oil. I'm

on oregano oil now for my candida and it doesn't have nearly the

punch that nystatin did. Next week I'm getting a prescription for

nystatin powder from my doctor.

I think many website and groups don't recommend nystatin, and have

even maligned it because it must be obtained via prescription so they

can't make any money from it.

I hope that helps.

Dear Bee-

I hear what you are saying about the die-off symptoms, but I am in

agony here with a nasty vaginal yeast infection and 10 Diflucan

pills. The Diflucan calms the yeast infection down and sort of

eliminates it for a few days, with a regular diet. I'm trying to

start the diet today with the Diflucan in the hopes that I can get

the VYI gone for good. I can work through the rest at a slower pace,

but I can't work, I can't sleep and I can't even be a reasonably nice

and sane humane being with this intense itching and raw skin.

I can have all the patience in the world if I can get the itching

under control. Do you have any suggestions for that?
