Guest guest
I'm just starting the candida diet, and obviously if I'm eating just meat, fat and low-carb veggies I'm going to go into ketosis. I've searched through the old messages and read that Bee considers this to be safe. I looked at the Atkins website and it says, " So long as you have extra body fat, ketosis is safe and natural. " I am pretty severely underweight--6'2 " and 135 lbs. Is this going to be safe for me?

Is this going to be safe for me? ==>Rick, there is a lot of misconception surrounding ketosis resulting in alarming people without good reason. Here's an excellent article which explains why ketosis is not dangerous: " Ketosis: Mystery or Misconception? " at: http://www.bestlowcarbs.com/article1067.html ==>Also, Karl Loren, at www.karloren.com/diet/p118.htm. explains why there is confusion about ketosis. He states that if you follow a very low carb diet, and thereby reduce the amount of glucose and insulin circulating in your blood, your body will manufacture increases amounts of ketones, but some protein will become glucose and about 10% of dietary fat will also convert to glucose. This conversion will control the amounts of ketones produced. Carbs are not required for life if enough of the proper kinds of protein and fats are eaten, as recommended on the candida diet I recommend. ==>Rick, I lost a lot of weight on the candida program too. Weight was the least of my problem however, as it is for others with candida. Please read my story in the files " Bee's Personal Candida Story " to understand what I went through. I hope that helps, Bee
Guest guest
The first article said the symptoms of ketosis are: Weakness, depression, anexoria & vomiting. I couldn't get Karl Loren's article to come up at all. But I've had all of those symptoms except anexoria (that I know about tho I'm still losing lots of weight) most of the time (vomiting or very upset stomach occasionally) since being on the candida diet. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, if anything. Or are these symptoms part of the die off when starting on the diet? I've been on it for over a month now. Guest guest
Bee, My problem is that I can't eat enough protein and fat. (I posted a little while back about my eating disorder: /message/8631 ) I can only take in around 600-700 calories a day of protein and fat. It comes out about the same whether I eat one meal a day or many; digestively, I just can't do more. So I have to make up the rest in carbs, and I don't know how to get around this problem. (I posted that yesterday about ketosis because I was thinking that if I ate more frequently I could get enough calories, but I found it was not so. So ketosis isn't even the issue.) I just did the Immunolabs Toxic Food Syndrome test, which is a food allergy test, and yesterday I eliminated all the foods I show an allergic reaction to. So I'll see if that improves my digestion, but since the onset of the disorder didn't coincide with any increase in those foods that I can see, it doesn't seem likely to me. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks, Rick > > I'm just starting the candida diet, and obviously if I'm eating just > > meat, fat and low-carb veggies I'm going to go into ketosis.
