Advice on pain

When I woke up on Sat. morning, I had intense pain on my left side -

up under my lower left rib cage. At first I thought that it might be

gas which has happened on occasion in the past, but has usually

resolved within a few hours after passing the gas. This pain has

persisted. At night, I cannot lay on my left side at all without

extreme pain and cannot lay on my back without the pain starting

within a few minutes - though not as intense as when I lay on my left

side. I have not noticed that it intensifies after eating. It also

hurts if, say, I am sitting on the couch and leaning on the armrest

(left side) or if I slouch while sitting. Today it doesn't seem as

bad, but it still hurts.

I am wondering if this could be part of the healing process or if I

might have something wrong with my pancreas? I know no one here can

diagnos my problem, but if anyone has had a similar experience, it

would help me to hear about it.

TIA!

- Ann
