The Chicago Tribue did sampling of sea food for mercury, both fresh and canned, on a much larger scale than the FDA has ever done. In short, what they found is that the levels are much higher than what the FDA recommends as healthy. Some fish has levels that children and pregnant women should not eat at all. If you are interested, go into <www.gotmercury.org> and their calculator will let you know what level of mercury exposure you have. From their site: Eating seafood high in mercury is hazardous to your health, especially for pregnant women and children. The Got Mercury? calculator below helps you make safer seafood choices. Just enter your weight, the seafood type, the quantity of seafood you will eat during a week, and click the calculator button. These calculations are based on EPA and FDA data. I weigh 125 pounds, and two cans of light tuna a week will put me into the danger zone. One can of tuna, and I'm in the " low " danger zone.
