Guest guest
Hello all, My name is Donna. I have been lurking for awhile and trying to steel my resolve to plunge into really doing this diet the right way. I even purchased the FitDay software which allow you to track everything. I am 5'1 " and weigh 146 pounds, which is at least 25 pounds more than I need to be weighing. I have battled candida for many years, taking prescription antifungals from nystatin to Nizoral, most recently with a holistically oriented doctor who put me on Armour thyroid, a bunch of expensive supplements, and performed some very expensive tests to measure the levels of candida antibodies in my blood, not to mention the horrifically expensive allergy tests. He also put me on 200 mg a day of Diflucan which is supposed to be the big freaking gun. Whoa! My original blood antibody level was 230. (Normal is 0 to 130.) At the end of 3 months the antibody level had dropped to 150. At the end of 6 months, the antibody level had gone back up to 250! So apparently the candida I have is resistant to the most potent prescription antifungals on the market. I did lose 20 pounds, but promptly gained it all back after I quit seeing him in disgust at the amount of money I was spending with no results. (We will not speak of all the rocky road ice cream I ate to console myself....) So I know in my heart that for me that diet is the only answer. I have the oregano oil, which I can take in full capsules without having any die-off whatsoever. I'm doing the lemon juice and celtic sea salt. I use massive quantities of garlic. I take olive leaf extract. I get nauseous if I take too much VCO (Tropical Traditions) and get violent stomach cramps. I take Jarro-dolphilus+FOS and I make my own kefir from living grains, of which I take maybe 6 ounces a day. According to my height I was told that I should be taking 55 grams of protein, 138 to 193 grams of fat, and 44 grams of carbs. Well, I exceeded my protein grams in two meals (3 scrambled eggs in VCO for breakfast and an 8.3 ounce lean ground sirloin patty for lunch). Even though I ate salad I haven't nearly met my carb requirement for the day, and not even close to meeting my fat requirements. Metabolically I am a protein type, (fast oxidizer) and a recent hair analysis showed that I need to be consuming even more protein than I am already consuming. So how can I get more fat other than the olive oil and VCO and butter I already consume? Are the figures I was given for the fat, carb, protein ratios correct? Is it vital to take ONLY 55 grams of protein even though I don't feel well unless I consume larger quantities of protein? I know that my chronic sinusitus is fungal as in my head is full of candida. I itch all the time. I also crave carbs, and can gain 5 pounds by even THINKING about a piece of bread. I feel totally overwhelmed and wonder if someone who has approximately the same ratios as I do could tell me what they eat on a given day meet those ratios. All this math is not my long suit. Mumble, mumble. Thanks, Donna Overall
Guest guest
Hi Donna, I'm working on figuring it all out too so I can't answer most of your questions. A couple of things come to mind though. Are you taking fish oil? One teaspoon would be somewhere aroun 14 grams, depending what type, so 3 teaspoons a day will increase your fat intake. I think you mentioned you were having troube with the VCO, how about trying another brand? As for your chronic sinusitis, a neti pot is very helpful. There is a file in the archives called sinus treatments. elyse On 14-Jun-06, at 5:09 PM, Donna Overall wrote: > So how can I get more fat other than the olive oil and VCO and > butter I > already consume?
