I was very strict because when I found out I had yeast, I was so sick and exhausted and my hair was falling out etc. I was 19 and living with my best friend. I couldn¹t eat all the goodies she was eating and no parties for me, the cigarette smoke alone just sent me over the edge. It was very hard! After about a year I added back in fruit and yeast bread and cheese a little bit at a time and I did well. I haven¹t had systemic problems that severe since then. I did have some a few years ago, but I just took olive leaf extract for 2 months and it took care of it. That stuff tastes like, well bad, really bad, but it sure did the trick! I can¹t remember if when I was on the diet if I actually did supplements or not. I know I initially went out and bought them, but I don¹t recall re-buying them... I am now at a point where I can eat dessert, drink a soda etc. I can feel when I have had too much and I just avoid sugar for awhile. Sugar is really my only trigger. I avoided yeast bread, cheese, vinegar etc that whole year, but I don¹t feel that I am personally sensitive to them from a candida perspective. I haven¹t ever been regular about taking a probiotic. Out of sight, out of mind for me. I did eat yogurt very regularly for awhile, but I lost may taste for it. In my last pregnancy I was very ill and lost my taste for several things. -- , mom to Harriet 12.15.99 Crispin 01.25.02 heatherette@... Guest guest
Jeanne: For me I consider it all a matter of degrees. Maybe its bacause I have so many other health concerns that the discomforts that candidas causes me from time to time do not give it a super high priority so when it's back I tend to live with the little pains and work on getting rid of it. Yes, it comes and goes for me. And some times I can indeed trace it to " cheating " . For instance, a gay organization I belong to had a big reunion a few weeks back and I had a glass of WINE and TWO pieces of pizzza (GASPP!!) I knew I would probably pay for it later. I did. About three days later I had some minor oral thrush appear and my jock itch really came back. But after only about 10 days of strict dieting and itch treatment it was almost totally gone. Thats why I said in a very early post that I seem to be able to control mine at will. I truly think the effects of dieting and supplements are different for everyone. The human body is an amazing but extrememly complicated mechanism and then when you factor in the effects of genetics, environment, etc. things get REALLY complicated. You need to realize what MAY work for one doesn't have exactly the same, desired effect for you or that same treatment may take longer to effect you. So what its worth here is what I do when I get a flare up. 1. I first look even harder at ingredient labels and prioritize. first trying to eliminte as much sugar as possible. I also try to stay away from ALL dairy. (but I have started using organic butter) 2. I almost never eat yeast breads regardless of how I feel but I remain even more aware of that during a flare up. 3. I double up on my garlic supplements. I eat at least one meal a day with a raw garlic clove included. (peeled and minced in olive oil & lemon juice) 4. I eat fresh, washed raw or quick cooked vegetables. I don't have time to be culturing my food. I may have one piece of fruit in the morning but if my flare-up is sever i will even cut that out for awhile. 5. I eat the equivelant of at least two tubs of yogurt. Sorry Bee (half organic plain mixed with a more commericial variety) 6. Eat more eggs- 6-8 a week. 7. Supplements: Morning- I start out with GSE and a big glass of water followed by a Mega multi, B-12 tab, Folic acid, Garlic supplement Vitamin C (500mg), Magnesium (250 mg) I will do another GSE treatment just before lunch. With my evening meals I then again do another Mega multi, B-Complex, Garlic supplement, Iron supplement, Magnesium. Before I go to bed I have another glass of GSE. Take more protein supplement. 8. Take a probiotic between meals (and between garlic intake). 9. If I'm feeling REALLY fatigued I may or may not pop one Ibupropen before I take a short 40 minute nap. I then get up walk the dog, feed the dog and then get my butt to the gym! 10. Put a big priority on getting to " studio " . I am a marketing / research consultant and graphic designer by trade BUT I am also a fine artist. I belong to Grand Valley Artists and we have life drawing studio sessions twice a week. While I'm drawing I hardly EVER feel any pain from candida and that " high " can last through the evening. " Arting " is a great therapy for me. I think its the last two items that really does the most good some times. These little regimens really helps me de-stress. Stress is a huge culprit when it comes to candida!! I think Bee has recently been reminded of that. The fatigue and yucky feeling you ARE experiencing may actually be die-off. I am fortunate because I'm office is in my home so if I really need to do the nap thing I can. Objectively, you may just really want to look at how you can destress your life some. Not to kick off issues again in the group but can someone please just give me their opinion and like a time line suggestion. I feel so much better and am off a bunch of crap I was taking for asthma and allergies and no more sinus problems. Since I never met a cheese I didn't like that has been tough but worth it...........still eat about 2 ounces a week though. So please can someone just give me their opinion on what they would do next. Yes I have read Bee's articles so what other advice does anyone have? Guest guest
Dear Jeanne, You've done an excellent job staying on the diet for 6 months and taking supplements. That is the step which builds the immune system. That should set you up real good for the other steps in the program. Even though my article does not state how long to stay on the diet, for some people it is one month, for others it is three months and so on. It depends upon how severe and widespread the symptoms are, and how much the person adheres to the diet as well. The next step for you is to take antifungals and probiotics. The best, Bee > It sounds like a lot of people have been helped by diet alone, vitamins, cultured vegetables etc. > I feel so much better eating a candida diet ..............but today I felt like crap at work....spacey, dizzy, tired, panicky.
