Thanks for the info, Robin. This product is interesting. From what I read on

the net, the 2 most basic strands of bacteria seem to be L. Acidophilus and

L. Bifidus. SLV has both of them plus 3 other kinds.

But it is daidy based and having a slight sensitivity to dairy, I probably

should use a non dairy supplement.

I'm a huge fan of using probiotics. The probiotics my medical doctor (I

finally found a good one!) recommended are VSL3. They can be found at

http://www.vslpharma.com/

He says an independent group put this product through rigorous testing and

showed the organisms were what they claimed in amount and quality.

With VSL3#, you mix a " sachet " ( a little packet) of powder into an 8 ounce

glass of water and drink it 45 minutes before meals.

I guess that one of the main problems of probiotics is the " delivery

system " . Capsules will help the organisms make it down through the acid

environment of the stomach but something about the way they're put into

capsules compromises the microorganisms some how. But there's another

problem if you just buy the powder in jars -- I can't remember now.. sorry.

Anyway, any good probiotics are expensive and you probably get what you pay

for. I like it that the brand my doctor recommended doesn't seem to spend

money on advertising to the public. I hope the money they save goes into the

product.

All probiotics need to be delivered cold and kept cold. Otherwise it's a big

waste of money.

Ps. I also use Natren brand in both the capsule and the powdered form as I

think it's best to diversify when it comes to micro-organisms...

I'm allergic to dairy but have no problem with the dairy in any supplements

I've taken. As I said, I mix the powder (it's about 1/2 teaspoon) of powder

with 8 ounces of water . I wish I knew the metric:)

And of course my allergy is probably different than yours..
