Guest guest
I like buckwheat pancakes (I listed my recipe here a while back) and eggs fixed just about every way you can imagine but without any dairy products except butter. I saw some breakfast sausage made from turkey at the local grocer's that looks like it doesn't have anything in it I can't eat. I'll have to try it and see how it goes. I've fixed quinoa or millet with butter for breakfast a few times, too. Guest guest
This is not an idea you'll probably even want to consider but here goes: You might want reconsider what " breakfast " really means. This idea of carbohydrates-and-fruit-first-thing-in-the-morning is not necessarily the only way to go. The diets of many other cultures will attest to this. For example, when I lived in Tokyo in the early 70's I had the rather rude-at-the-time awakening of miso soup and salted fish for breakfast. I've since been glad for this as it's helped me with my Candida diet. Oddly enough, you can develop a real taste for the stuff and even crave it from time to time. My Candida breakfasts now are: juice of a lemon/hot water with a dash of cayenne pepper upon rising. Then I have half an apple with a handful of soaked almonds. (That is my only fruit for the day.) An hour or two later, when my body is more awake and my digestion is up and running, I make a big protein-based breakfast. This morning it happened to be ahi tuna and spinach. Other days it's chicken livers with greens. What I'm getting at is this: instead of trying to replace everything you ate before you had this Candida problem with some kind of imitator that you know will never be as good, try an entirely new direction. Of course, you won't get that morning zing! you get from high-powered carb food but that's why we're sick. We can't have that now. So if you try to accept the fact that breakfast is just another meal in the day maybe it'll be less stress-ful and you won't miss the " real thing " of your oatmeal. That was also my favorite breakfast and I miss it so very much. I'd put apple and raisins and cinnamon in it. Yum! But I miss it so much I want to get back to where I can eat that from time to time. The imitators don't even come close and I personally don't want to risk having this Candida even one day longer than I have to. I figure the sooner I eliminate the starches, the sugars and thence the Candida, the sooner I can have these great whole grain foods again. I'm working at home now so these meals are easier for me to plan and carry out. If I had my old job, I would have to make a meat and greens type meal to have at work during a mid-morning break. Good luck! ~Robin _____ From: Zack Widup [mailto:w9sz@...] Sent: Monday, June 14, 2004 1:05 PM Subject: Re: [ ] I'm hooked on oat bran oatmeal--Help please! Guest guest
Hi. The title of your post says you're hooked on oat bran oatmeal -- but I'm thinking, maybe it's not the oat bran oatmeal you're hooked on, but rather the things you add to it. Do you add sugars, fruits, spices, butter, or what? Or do you eat it totally plain? If you're in the habit of putting tasty things on it, and you switch to just having it totally plain, it might be that you don't like the taste at all -- if that's what happens, you're not hooked on the oatmeal, you're just hooked on the goodies you add to it. To me, a lot of food is just an excuse to eat sugar, LOL Like oatmeal -- I like it, but ONLY if it's loaded with sugar and cinnamon. And coffee -- I like coffee too but ONLY if it's loaded with sugar. As far as other breakfast ideas -- when i'm eating healthy, i eat scrambled eggs, nuts, or a banana-kefir " smoothie " or whatever healthy leftovers happen to be in the fridge, such as raw fruit or leftover chicken or raw carrot sticks. In summertime when we have fresh garden tomatoes i love just slicing some for a raw breakfast, sprinkle them with a little bit of RealSalt, and a bit of organic extra-virgin olive oil -- fresh summer tomatoes make a great meal all by themselves, or chopped into chunks and eaten with ripe olives and avocado. But that doesn't happen often, because usually I'm not eating healthy, i'm just eating junk, in which case my breakfasts consist of anything from ice cream to Swiss cheese to pie to beans and cornbread, to pancakes (drowning in syrup and butter of course) Compared to that, oat bran oatmeal would be an improvement! For a lot of yummy non-grain menu ideas great for a Candida diet, check out the recipes at paleodiet.org (i think that's it, but i'll have to check as it's been a while since i was there and i've loaned my NeanderThin book to somebody who has forgotten to return it!) > I've been eating oat bran oatmeal everyday for the last year or so. > I've just recently found out that Oat bran is a no-no for candida > suffers like myself. > > Can you guys recommend a subsitute for me? Guest guest
I prepare my oatmeal with flax seed meal and some apple. I just love the combo. Maybe you're right melee. Maybe I'm hooked on the sugar thats added to the oatmeal. I just finished off the rest of my oat bran today. I'll be looking forward to switching to some of the suggestions you guys gave me. I really appreciate all of your help. Thanks so much! Sincerely, Tim > > I've been eating oat bran oatmeal everyday for the last year or so. > > I've just recently found out that Oat bran is a no-no for candida > > suffers like myself. > > > > Can you guys recommend a subsitute for me? Guest guest
Dear Tim, It shouldn't take long to curb your cravings once you go off all grains and sugars. I've read that it only takes about 3 days. But in the meantime you need to find things you can eat and feel satisfied with, i.e. lots of eggs, good meats, fresh healthy veggies, with good oils, lemon juice, herbs, spices and good ocean sea salt. Don't forget that good fats like coconut oil and butter also are a great source of energy and makes you feel more full and satisfied. Exercise also helps curb cravings, so does extra vitamin C. Every time you feel you want something that is bad for you have 500 mgs. of vitamin C. You can do it. Take good care.
