Overall the Atkins Diet has some good ideas, but I wouldn't recommend

it even to healthy people.

My candida diet is very different than the Atkins Diet! Have you

read my candida diet? Here's some examples of the differences:

While Atkins is low carb it allows carb foods and sugars not allowed

on the candida diet, i.e. bran, vanilla and strawberry shakes,

artificial sweeteners, etc.

The Atkins diet includes many foods not allowed on the candida diet,

including, soybean products and derivatives, dairy (cheese, cream,

milk protein concentrates, etc.), mushrooms, pickled foods, vinegar,

wine, i.e. yeast, fungi and mold containing foods.

Atkins also includes olive oil, which is not " extra virgin " , and it

is used in cooking, which is not advisable for anyone, let alone

candida sufferers. It also includes " very damaging fats " like canola

oil.

It does not contain the high number of quality fats that are

extremely important on the candida diet, even though it is supposed

to be a " high fat " diet.

It also includes products like " Bran-a-Crisp Crackers " (bran is

extremely damaging – see article in our files).

Example of Atkins Vanilla Shake; Ingredients:

Water, Milk Protein Concentrate, Soybean Oil, Cellulose Gel, Contains

0.5% or less of the following: Calcium Caseinate, Natural and

Artificial Flavors, Potassium Phosphate, Cellulose Gum, Soy Lecithin,

Carrageenan, Sulcralose, Beta Carotene, Magnesium Chloride, Magnesium

Phosphate, Tricalcium Phosphate, D-Biotin, D-Calcium Pantothenate,

Folic Acid, Niacinamide, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Sodium Ascorbate,

Thiamin Mononitrate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin B12, Riboflavin,

Vitamin D3, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin K1, Chromium Chloride, Copper

Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Potassium Chloride,

Potassium Citrate, Potassium Iodide, Sodium Citrate, Sodium

Molybdate, Sodium Selenite, Zinc Sulfate, Maltodextrin.

Carrageenan is an emulsifier made from seaweed. After processing it

is almost exactly like MSG (monosodium glutamate) making it just as

damaging.

Contains soybean oil and soy lecithin.

Contains artificial sweeteners, i.e. sucralose, maltodextrin.

For these reasons many aspects of the Atkins diet is very damaging

even for people who are healthy.

The best in health,

Bee

I don't know about bran but the shakes and stuff are not the diet that

is just marketing. just like all the crap that will cure Candida and any

other diet stuff. it's not really recommended to use much if any

sweeteners.

this depends on the person. I was fine with cheese. and pickles and milk

protein products. most of these products the yeast is dead and I doubt

in that state it does much.

Huh? since when is olive oil bad in cooking? and canola oil is one of

those debatable things. though myself why use it?

no where in his book does he recommended these things. they are just

marketing. they are worthless on any diet I agree though and should be

avoided.

You are right, it is a marketing ploy that has failed (thank god).

Unless one reads the Dr. Atkin's Books and knows EXACTLY what his way of

eating is about, for and does (and not second guess because of rumor or

gossip) then I find there opinion moot. Candida sufferers should not be

on Atkins, period.

I would have to agree...the atkins diet has gone 100% commercial. I always

wonder if Dr Atkins would have approved of just how much processed items are

being sold under his name. As a doctor, I seriously doubt he would have been

happy....but <shrug>....what can you do. No one wants to make a 'lifestyle'

change, they just want to eat things that look and taste the same as the bad

stuff they ate before. To me, I would think if you don't really make a 'change'

in the things you eat, won't you just replace that 'fake potato chip' with a

real potato chip again when you are done losing weight or can't spend the extra

money anymore?

Actually Atkins has a chapter in his book for those who suffer from Candida and

he has them omit a lot of the food that is on the regular atkins plan. He did

not suggest his regular diet for those suffering from candida.

I think the idea is that olive oil which is not " extra virgin " is bad for

cooking.

I saw on one of those chef's shows on TV a while back an explanation of

the different grades of olive oil. " Extra virgin " is the first pressing

.... " Virgin " is the second presing, etc. The best taste and quality is

the first pressing and it gets worse (also cheaper) with each successive

pressing. I like the good stuff!

I have been buying " light " olive oil for cooking and maybe should get rid of it.

I very rarely use anything other than coconut oil anymore any way.

So do I need to trash the light oil?

Mix sea salt with it and make a nice " rub " before a shower. Will soften

the skin!

, your last statement about 'change' and replacing 'fake potato
