Guest guest
Hi Mike, Are you sure it is low in GI? It is very tasty indeed and it is easy to make yourself. It's originally from Northern Africa, I learned it from some Jewish friends. Just buy some chickpeas and boil them and add whatever you want. I'm not sure there that low in GI. I had problems with it, as well as with lentils. But we're not the same. I suffer a lot from palpitations, but that could be my first healing effect. I also was itching a bit. I'm glad I started the build up of the diet during my holidays. I would have preferred the trip to France, but health is such a precious thing. I just have to improve it. I eat oatmeal as well, but not every day. I'm building it up gradually. It is too hard on your body to change everything. Give us your recipe one day, from your lovely soup! Thanks, Mike, Bye bye, a Mike wrote: Hi a, yes the humous is made from Chickpeas. My nutritionist specifically recommended them to me - I originally (never having tasted it) thought I'd hate it, but I love it. It's actually got a low GI value, and it is a good source of olive oil, lemon and garlic, so I figured it was Candida friendly. I add a bit of oatmeal to my muesli, and take it with rice milk. The other day I had ran out of rice milk so I used water, and it was still a nice tasting breakfast :-) I am trying hard to make and take my own food into work with me, so that i can best stick to the Candida diet. Today, my lunch was a home made red pepper soup. It was absolutely gorgeous - nicer than any soup I've ever eaten in a restaurant, and completely Candida free - marvellous! Guest guest
Hi a, hope you;re well. I've done some browsing on the net and found different GI values for humous, or hummus as it seems to be spelt more often - ranging from a GI value of 6 to 35. I think canned chicpeas have a higher GI value probably because they have added salt, maybe sugar, something like that. So as far as I know, I believe it is okay to eat but obviously if it affects you when you have done, you have to listen to what your body is saying. I too thought about starting the Candida diet after the Christmas holidays rather than in mid-November, but I'm glad I started it earlier - otherwise I dread to think about the amount of sugar and yeast I would have put in my stomach with the normal Christmas food. Yikes! ps I've decided to lose the oats from my diet altogether. I was eating oatcakes (with humous), but now need to come up with something to substitute them, for my mid-afternoon snack when I get hungry - any ideas? Guest guest
Hello Mike, I hope it is ok for me to intrude here. I am not a but I have been a long time lurker. I have been trying to come up with something I can have things like hummus on also. I have a recipe book about Crepes and there are recipes for Crepes made with different grains. A couple of the recipes call for Buckwheat mixed with other things. I know Buckwheat was the original ingredient in like Caviar Blintzes. I have not tried it yet so I am not sure if it would work. I have tasted before but am not sure whether they added flour or not. I am very low carb so I have to be careful. Of coarse Heidi from a couple of other groups. ( I don't remember If I am allowed to mention other groups here, some groups frown on it) She is my hero. And she has come up with a few recipes for gluten free that are too high of carb for me but may be ok for you. There is also the old lowcarb way of using thin omelet as the crepe and adding any filling you want. I went looking for my book. I didn't find yet but I will keep on looking it anyone is interested. SheilaN ps I love hummus also. There is a Mediterranean restaurant and deli that serves hummus and it is better than I can make.
