Guest guest
Dear It's good you keep clarifying things. Good for you. Oatmeal is a gluten-grain is not okay to eat. B-Complex vitamins are okay to take if the label says: contains no dairy, wheat, gluten, soy, yeast or sugar. Take 50 mgs. two times a day. Potatoes of any color are not okay because they are high in starch which feeds the candida. You are welcome Chris. How are you doing on the program so far? The best, Bee > Hi everyone, > Is oatmeal ok to eat when on the Candida Diet? Should I not take > anymore B-Complex vitamins? Guest guest
Hi Bee, Oatmeal is not a gluten grain to my knowledge. The problem with oats is that it is mostly grown with wheat. Therefore it will give a gluten-intolerent person problems. GI ppl have a hard time sometimes just being in the same room with gluten! The Irish oatmeal is supposed to be a better choice than others, since as a rule they do not grow wheat but it bothers me! Del Bee wrote: > Dear > > It's good you keep clarifying things. Guest guest
Hi Del, I double-checked oats and could only find references listing it as a gluten grain along with wheat, rye, barley, etc. It's possible it is grouped with other gluten grains because of it being grown with wheat. I've read that some grain mills process their grains in the same room as gluten grains which contaminates them all with gluten, and like you said some people can't even tolerate being in the same room with gluten. I found this reference which is interesting too: http://health.discovery.com/encyclopedias/1881.html " People with celiac disease have an intolerance or a reaction to gliadin, which is a component of gluten. Gluten and gliadin are found in several common grains. Gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, and rice. Gliadin, the offending substance, is not present in corn or rice but is found in the other grains. So, the diet for celiac disease is actually known as gluten-restricted and gliadin-free. People with the disease cannot eat wheat, rye, barley, and oats or any products made with these grains. They can have corn and rice, even though they contain gluten, because they don't contain gliadin. Oats have traditionally been considered off-limits to people with this condition. " I luv oatmeal but I had problems with it when I had candida. Warm regards Del, Bee > > > Hi everyone, > > > Is oatmeal ok to eat when on the Candida Diet? Guest guest
Hi Bee, Uncontaminated oats are okay. That means oats that have not come into contact with wheat. Like I said only irish oaks *could* be safe. Lots of gluten intolerent ppl cannot eat it and lots say they have no problem with it. My opinion is that all oats are unsafe. If I even *suspected* that I was gluten intolerent, I would stay away from it. It's not worth it to eat them. Eat buckwheat instead. I am 63 years old and I probabaly have been gluten intolerent all my life and all my life I have been battling food issues, not knowing I was GI until about a year ago. Now I have a lifetime to correct and probabaly won't ever heal. The harm GI has caused can be corrected IF you eat NO gluten. Look at this link: http://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=14 Del Bee wrote: > Hi Del, > > I double-checked oats and could only find references listing it as a > gluten grain along with wheat, rye, barley, etc. It's possible it is > grouped with other gluten grains because of it being grown with wheat. > > I've read that some grain mills process their grains in the same room > as gluten grains which contaminates them all with gluten, and like > you said some people can't even tolerate being in the same room with > gluten. > > I found this reference which is interesting too: > http://health.discovery.com/encyclopedias/1881.html > > " People with celiac disease have an intolerance or a reaction to > gliadin, which is a component of gluten. Guest guest
Hi Del, You've learned a lot about it haven't you Del. The information is very important for candida sufferers too who have a leaky gut and are gluten intolerant too. I love buckwheat pancakes. Yum. Even though I'd heard that Amaranth grains were okay for candida, I just found out today they contain some gluten too. So I'll have to do a more thorough research on grains. Candida sufferers should keep them to a minimum but for those losing weight buckwheat or millet can be a god send like it was for me. Do you have candida Del? It's great to have you as a member. You have a wealth of knowledge. Do good my friend, Bee > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > Is oatmeal ok to eat when on the Candida Diet? Should I not > > take > > > > > anymore B-Complex vitamins? Guest guest
How do I know if I am gltten intolerant? Does oatmeal feed the candida? I feel fine after eating it, does that mean oatmeal is ok for me? Chris > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > Is oatmeal ok to eat when on the Candida Diet? Guest guest
Hi Some gluten Intolerent ppl say they feel fine after eating oatmeal. I did for awhile. How do you feel after eating gluten? Like white bread? There are 3 ways to know for sure : 1-You can get a stool test (about $400, insurance usually doesn't pay). 2-kinesiology about $50. 3-Have surgery where they cut open your tummy and look at the lining. Even then that might not tell because they may not look at a section that is damaged! A lot of ppl just go by how they feel if they eat gluten, and say they are an undiagnosed GI person. I was one of those ppl that *had* to know for sure so I got the stool test. If you want more info about that I will give it. I say it is not worth it to eat oats if you are gluten intolerent, period. I know very little about candida, that's why I am here to learn about it. I believe only sugar feeds candida. Del cb121273 wrote: > How do I know if I am gltten intolerant? Guest guest
Hi Del, I rarely eat white bread but when I do, I don't feel any different than before. How did you feel after eating gluten? What are some symptoms I have to watch out for? Chris > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > > Is oatmeal ok to eat when on the Candida Diet? Guest guest
Dear About all grains, including oats, they all feed the candida and should be eliminated during the 1st three months on the diet. It isn't a matter of being gluten intolerant or not. " Grain foods (wheat, rice, corn, oats, etc.) store their energy as complex strands of sugar molecules, which is a starch, and acts just like sugar in the body. That is why grains are just as addictive as sugar. After being off all sugar and grains for awhile you will find your craving for them both will diminish. " " The symptoms of gluten intolerance can mimic candida overgrowth symptoms, but they include: diarrhea, bloating, weight loss, anemia, chronic fatigue, weakness, bone pain, muscle cramps, concentration problems, irritability, chronic fatigue, weakness, migraine headaches, nerve problems such as tingling of hands or difficulty walking, or other conditions that are unexplained and/or do not respond to usual treatment. " If you are very under weight you can have a small amount of grains and if you are okay on oats they would be fine. If you are not under weight it will speed your recovery not to have them. I hope that helps Chris. Take good care. Bee > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > Is oatmeal ok to eat when on the Candida Diet? Should I > not > > > take > > > > > > anymore B-Complex vitamins? Guest guest
Hi Bloated, uncomfortable tummy was my symptom! It affects ppl differently though. I know some that break out in a cold sweat, fever etc. How old are you anyway? I am 63 and didn't really start having bloated, uncomfortable tummy until about 5-6 years ago. That's when white bread, that I ate very infrequently, started affecting me. So it took a long time to surface for me. If I had known earier I might be a lot better off now. All my life I have been suspecting first 1 food and then another for my problems. I do have food sensitivities on top of the GI. I can't have black pepper but I can have cracked pepper. I can't have cocoa powder unless I mix it with lots of coconut oil, like I do for freezer candy. Sulfites and MSG I can't have. Just an example. GI is a genetic thing so for now the thoughts are that ppl are born with it. Most ppl just don't want to believe they are GI, I think. I would say if you are totally unaffected by eating gluten (white bread or other) then you are not GI.
