Guest guest
Dear Group, After not eating meat for about 13 years, I found myself on an airplane without having the airline know that I am a vegetarian. I decided not to go hungry and I had lean pork with my lunch and then some ham for the evening meal with my bread. The result was just horrible and lasted a few days after the plane trip. I had problems with my digestion even after I went back to eating my usual diet and my intestines swelled up so that I had a great big bell. I remember feeling so well at the age of 36 when I made the decision not to eat meat. I felt very light and I had much more energy. Now I realize what had happened: I takes a lot of energy to digest animal products and that energy was now freed to be used up for my own life. I walked more and I ran with my dogs in the woods for a lot longer. The dogs helped me to maintain a healthy weight because I had to take them out for their exercise. Now I have a large back yard and they run by themselves, and so not being out with them for at least one hour a day and the bad habit of eating chocolate has put on 15 lbs on me. I realize that kind of lifestyle is not for everybody and I am not trying to convert any of you, but perhaps some of you will try not to eat heavy meaty foods for one day and see how you feel on that day. It may just give you more energy on a temporary basis. Mira From: burmanbarbara@... Just thought I'd let you, if you have hypothyroidism, you cannot convert Beta-Caroteneto Vitamin A. And some people, like me cannot convert vegetable protein to all the essential amino acids. Guest guest
I think this is short sighted advice. As Rich so completely described, this illness makes it difficult to extract what we need from food. Mira, you have not responded to everyone's suggestion that you increase protein to your diet. Protein does not have to be meat. It is harder to get protein from non-meat sources but it is very possible. Please look into that. Your diet was sorely lacking in protein and you may find that your health will improve if you can add more protein. Good luck, Marti > > > Dear Group, > > After not eating meat for about 13 years, I found myself on an airplane without having the airline know that I am a vegetarian. Guest guest
Dear Group, Yesterday I was bringing in cans of dog food into the house. Each can weighed 1200 gram and I had 4 of them in my arms. For me 5 kg is a lot to carry into the house even it is a short distance from the car into my kitchen. I realized that ever since I came to Poland I gained 9 kg, which is about 19 lbs. So am carrying all those " cans " of fat around my belly. No wonder I feel so much worse--I am carrying more weight then my poor CFS body can stand. This is making the whole illness harder to bare. One of you, wrote that we develop habits, as children and that they follow us when we are adults. When I realized that sweets for me brought back memories of good times with my father in Warsaw's Old Town, when we used to sit in caffees, enjoy our pastries and tea and just people watch in a relaxed way. So when tension hit me I would rush out to get a chocolate bar, yes, the CFS patient would get the car out of the garage, get in the car and drive to a nearby store. Sometimes this took a lot of effort, but once I sat down at home with my chocolate bar and my tea, I would relax and the sugar craving would go away. Eating the chocolate bar in the car was not the same thing--I had to have my hot tea with it to have that effect of calming myself down. CFS can be and usually is disease that not only takes away you whole life, but it can be very stressful as well. The stress comes from not knowing how you life will go now and in the future. I was once asked on Polish public TV when I was advocating here that CFS is a real disease, what did CFS take from my life. I answered that CFS took everything that was to take except my soul and my good heart. Getting back to my point, is that we can have stresses that we cannot do that much about. And so what did this CFS patient do: She ran to get a chocolate bar to bring back the feeling of being relaxed with my father in a caffee in the Old Town. I wonder what other harmful things I do to myself just to calm myself down or to handle one more day of CFS after there have been hundreds of days before that day, in the 21 year old history of the illness. Mira The sugar cravings hit me but they are are lighter and I can handle them better since I know that are really signals that I getting too tense or too frustrated with my disease. I have increased by intake of beans and of soy cutlets and soy spread on my bread. I am going to increase the amount of steamed vegetables that I eat during the day. Thank you! From: stangah@...
