Guest guest
Dear Group, Here's an excellent article on how soy affects the brain and other areas of the body, especially the thyroid. It is very important information for anyone who considers having, or has had, soy products of any kind. Avoiding all soy products, additives, derivatives or sources in any foods is very important for your health. Let us know what you think of the article. Cheers, Bee http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/soyandbrain.html

Guest guest
I wish I knew of this months ago. I was diagnosed with multinodular thyroid goiter less than 1 year ago. I have a container of soymilk in my house right now. I only started eating soyfoods 3-4 years ago but not alot. I really liked those boca burgers. Could all of this been caused by eating soyfood occasionally? Do you know if I can do anything to reverse the goiters or make them smaller? BTW my endocrinologist mentioned nothing of goitrogens. Any other goitrogens besides soy? > Dear Group, > > Here's an excellent article on how soy affects the brain and other > areas of the body, especially the thyroid. Guest guest
Hi there, And welcome to our group. I wished I'd also known about soy in the early 1980s when it was the rage, when I had it in place of milk along with other soy foods. As a result I have no thyroid (it was zapped with radiation due to severe Grave's disease, which is a very overactive thyroid; my resting pulse was 150). But in answer to your question about eating soyfood occasionally, I'm not positive about that, but if there are other problems, i.e. an autoimmune disease like Candida it could cause a thyroid goiter. I had candida for over 25 years, and maybe all of my life, at the time I found out what it was. The doctor who started me on the Candida Program found my thyroid problems, but that was also after having soy off and on for about 3 years. But two years later my thyroid was so out of whack that it was Grave's disease. I was scared and succumbed to radioactive treatment, but in highsight I wish I hadn't. What you can do to reverse the goiter: I trully believe that a lot can be done to return your thyroid to normal, but I couldn't answer what. There are so many things to take into consideration. May I suggest you study 's Shomon's website, starting with the Basics: Thyroid 101 and see what you can learn. Here's the Thyroid 101 Article to start: http://thyroid.about.com/cs/basics_starthere/a/thyroid101.htm The Home Page is: http://thyroid.about.com/ Is your thyroid hypo-active (under) or hyper-active (over)? By the way, I found the medical doctors' (except those practicing holistic medicine) and endocrinologists' knowledge is very lacking on the many causes of thyroid problems like soy. Basically they only know medical treatments, which treat symptoms invasively and that is all. They don't even know how to diagose correctly by looking at all factors, i.e. tests, basal temperature, life-style, diet and nutrition, environment, locality and clinical observations. Also, may I ask whether you have candida as well? The combination requires maybe some special concerns. Do you have a very good naturopath or M.D. who practices holistic medicine? If not, maybe finding a good one would be best for you too. But it is very important you find out for yourself as well. Also please know that they will try to treat your high cholesterol too, if you let them, which is normally higher when you have thyroid problems. That's another whole issue about the whole cholesterol scam - a subject for another post eh? See what you can find out, and let us know what you are finding and what happens. I can help you along the way as you learn more. I've studied a lot about thyroid problems but it is a big subject. The very best to you. Glad to have you.
