Guest guest
ok...my probiotic has fructose...should I take it or not? if NOT...where can I get a source that guarentees live delivery to the intestine? ( Shaklee has a patent on their delivery system, and guarentees it...that's why I like their products) ~Amy~ Thanks :-)
Guest guest
Amy; My perspective on it is that a small percentage of fructose isn't too bad, but you have to weigh it like this: The bowel bacteria you already have far outweigh the numbers you are taking in the probiotic. So looking at the numbers alone, the fructose will be used mainly by the most plentiful bacteria or yeasts. In a live delivery system with a pure culture, perhaps the fructose in it is only sufficient to keep the probiotic alive. What percent is fructose would be my next question. Native inulin can have up to 8% sugar, and FOS contains more. In the long term they'll work OK to encourage bowel bacteria, but in the short term you can expect side effects.
