Guest guest
Pearl - i truly ***Feel*** for you... i " freaked " out so bad the first time this happened to me.... the heart palpitating and the feeling like the blood was going to 'rush' right out of my body. I also got prickles up the back of my neck and would feel very hot and sweaty. I raced to the doc as well and they basically could tell me NOTHING. THey'll want to put you on ad's (anti-depressants) which i guess could help some people - but its not the only answer. Many times the prescription meds just create more and 'different' problems that we then need more meds for!! Please remember that your body is reacting to something. Allergies... hypoglycemia (sugar will really bring this on with me).... and another thing that happened to me once was I went to the dentist and had some fillings done and he had put 'epinephrine' in the shot... without asking me about it... well... i FREAKED in my body for 2 straight days! My blood was rushing, I could do nothing but PACE the floor and it was horrid. I prayed and prayed and asked the Lord to take it away. I wouldn't even go to bed because if I lied there it would come on stronger... so I would " sit up " in a chair through the night!! Believe me this CAN be helped by diet, herbs and lots of things - don't despair! If you feel better going to the ER ... then go - maybe it is something else - but it sounds 'classic' for what a lot of us with fm/cfs deal with all the time.... diet is essential (have I said that before ? Let us know what happens... wendy Hello and Help ! I not only get palpitations, my heart races. Do you get that also? Thats when I go to ER.....I am so upset I can't even begin to tell you.... I feel so drained after it is over! I almost have to stay in bed the next day. Mine also happens at night. I have not worked for 8 weeks now. My life is at a standstill. I dread going to bed at night. I am also getting severe anxiety attacks now. I am on xanax. I am waiting to hear from you again. I am really upset and do not know where to turn to. Guest guest
Pearl -- you cannot have any 'nitrate' type meats at all... you can have poached/baked fish (with no sweet sauces or anything) chicken done the same way... and some people can do beef. What I did in the very very beginning was I realized that this is an " individual " thing for EACH person. YOU yourself will have to be a DETECTIVE. NO BODY here can tell you EXACTLY WHAT to do. So.... if you have to get down to 2 things a day for a few days that you know 'for sure' you can tolerate - then do it. Then slowly add one thing at a time when you are SURE that you are ok with what you already do... this way you will not be confused on 'what' makes the difference. Many times it takes us a long time to 'get into' a state in our bodies like this,,, and it will not go away overnight either.... that is the hard truth..... EDUCATE yourself... and in doing so you will " learn " what to do.... all the best in prayer for you wendy Hello and Help ! I went to a very good naturopath in NZ where I live, just to get some clear guidance on this. Glad I did - I found out that my wheat allergy had come back with a vegance (I really don't think I got rid of it - I just was conning myself so I could eat the stuff) and I feel ten times better>> Please...please can someone tell me what to eat? I know I can have fish, meat and poultry etc. Can I have oatmeal? I have it every morning .. Also, any grains at all in the beginning? Like spelt pasta? I know I can't have cheese.....or diary, but I hear I can have yogurt....Also on the chicken, I put egg on the chicken parts and then flour and put it in the oven...that little bit of white flour is no good? Please give me some guidelines. I bought whole wheat wraps ( no yeast ) and natural cold cut...turkey. I think it was Applebees...I bought it at Whole Foods market yesterday... I was sick as a dog. This looked so innocent to me. What do you have in between meals? You say I have to eat every two hours? Can I have peanut butter....I don't know what to do. Also, some say eggs are ok, others say no.I had red peppers...well that made me get anxiety also. I just tried again to sleep and I had the anxiety. I am so tired !! Is there something you all take before bed? I am buying the Spirulina...every 2 hors you say....what do I put it in? Can I have lentils and brown rice? Guest guest
Pearl, the anxiety attacks goes along with the heart palpatations, first of all, do not let this take charge of your life, my daughter also had the anxiety attacks when she was in high school, we would go out, & while out she panicked & immediately wanted to go home! i made her continue while assurring her all the time she would be ok, after a couple of these while at school she was able to be in control, relax, do not panic! breathe in deeply, make yourself go to work, maybe at home it's on your mind more, at work you can kkeep busy & not think about it, i have a friend who wrote a book called "Don't Forget To Look Up" A christian's guide to overcoming anixiety & panic attacks!By K. Guest guest
i " can " do oatmeal - and do it every morning - it is not necessarily a " baddie " for candida.... some of the food items are notoriously bad for EVERYONE... other things are not. I can also do eggs... they sit well with me and I have no problems. Jonah's problems and your problems may not be exact,,, that is why other than the MAIN things... some things may NOT be wholly wrong for " YOU " . As I said, you must whittle down your diet to a few things and then see how you respond. For my few first weeks ALL I ate was boiled eggs, oatmeal and chicken. Later, I added our own plain yogurt and a few others... but then I " knew " when something made me sicker. eventually Pearl you're going to have to do some " work " yourself - and start studying, reading and 'applying' these things to your life.... wendy Re: Hello and Help ! Guest guest
here's a " prime " example Pearl of WHY we're all SO different.... I use oats - recommended also by a candida Doc - Dr. MacFarland....??? CAN'T.... I " Can " - Jonah Can't do peanut butter,,,, can't because of the sugar... I get peanut butter with no sugar -freshly ground - and CAN do it.... ????? butter is FINE for me as well .... I just think that again... we all " learn " .... and we all grow with this as time goes by... Another important element here is exactly that... TIME. There are different " phases " in a candida diet - in the beginning - MOST things ARE cut out.... gradually, and over time, as we get stronger and healthier,,, we can have things we couldn't have before... there are books and online sites written on the different phases... Some people have leaky gut syndrome which makes a HUGE difference in the digestive process.... some people have IBS - irritable bowel syndrome - many of these chronic problems can also be cleared up with natural treatments... over " time " ... that nasty word... and THEN some foods can be added back again.... sorry for sounding so irritable today - i've had a very hard 2 last days of physical pain.... Blessings to all wendy Re: Hello and Help ! Pearl, What you can eat depends on what you can tolerate, it's different for everyone. However, I would not recommend oatmeal...I used to be an oatmeal fanatic, and I still love it. But they say you're only supposed to eat steel cut oats or scotch oats, no rolled or instant oats. Fish and poultry are okay, but stay away from beef and pork. I don't know too much about the diet, just what works for me. I don't eat chicken or turkey anymore because I don't know how to cook it properly! Sad, huh? I used to be a shake-and-bake kind of cook, and having a mother who doesn't cook anything that's not microwaveable doesn't help. I am afraid of food poisoining. Eggs are okay as long as you are not allergic. Some people who are allergic to eggs can eat them if they're scrambled, according to my allergist. If the wheat wraps bothered you, you might be allergic to wheat, many of us are. As for peanut butter, I cut it out because of the sugar. But boy do I miss it! I am also newer to this diet and struggling like crazy to eat right, so I know what you're going through. *** *** --- PEARLY2@... wrote: > Please...please can someone tell me what to eat? Guest guest
Hi Pearl, I'm new to this diet candida thing too. I noticed that when I started having a sugar free and yeast free diet that my heart palpitations went away. I never had anything done about my heart palpitations. I guess that's because I had them just about all my life and thought it was completely normal! I know for me, that there are a lot of different types of diets for candida and they can all be a bit confusing. Some say you can eat fruit, others say you can't etc etc. I went to a very good naturopath in NZ where I live, just to get some clear guidance on this. Guest guest
This condition has a name, but I sure can't remember it. I get these episodes, sometimes lasting hours. My dr told me that pressing on my eyes sometimes will stop an episode, though it hasn't worked for me, as well as pushing down (as though having a bm). Gagging yourself might also work- once I had one that lasted most of the day and I ended up vomiting. It stopped abruptly. Dr knew exactly what it was as soon as I mentioned this. I think hormonal changes can start these, sugar and chocolate, caffeine can. And so it seems die off. You've been to the ER, haven't they given you a diagnosis? There is something you can take for it, I decided not to. But you should get a hold of someone and get the medicine. Having many of these can cause a strain on your heart. Guest guest
Pearl, They put you on Xanax for tachycardia? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that an anti-psychotic or something of that sort? My grandpa had tachycardia, but he took a different medication...I will try to remember the name. But he developed his due to old age. I get the heart racing when I have to much ephedrine...did you say you have asthma? If you use an albuterol inhailer, it can cause lots of problems. I know I get anxious and jumpy when I take mine, and also very shakey. A couple of times I was afraid to go to sleep because I had so much stimulation from the inhailer, I thought I was on my death bed!! Have you taken any of the new steroid drugs for the asthma? I did a course of those and have never been the same since. They also can hinder the immune system and harm adrenal function. I would be interested to know what the doctors have given you. *** *** --- PEARLY2@... wrote: > been to the ER, haven't they given you a diagnosis? > There is something > you can take for it, I decided not to. Guest guest
Pearl, The diet can be especially confusing. Here's what I found and what worked for me: oatmeal: even now, after two months after starting the diet, I only have oat BRAN porridge. The less gluten the better. During the beginning, no grains-period (for me , you might have a higher tolerance, but it doesn't sound like you do..) flour converts to sugars very quickly-sugars feed yeast. eat white meat or fish sparingly. I avoided red, still do. my spelt experiment swelled my belly like a beach ball. I have small occasional servings of goat cheese. I suggest avoiding AGED cheeses, blue cheese, etc I only have plain white yogurt, but only seldom. It seems to slow di- gestion down as well. Get NATURAL organic yogurt. Regular brands are full of antibiotics. The antibiotics enter your system, kill your intestinal flora. That's bad peanut butter is especially prone to mold. I avoided it but my one cheat was almond butter, organic... woo, I'm a wild man, huh? red peppers are a part of the nightshade family, I couldn't figure out why they bothered me at first, either. They are very high in vitamins and minerals, too. Unfortunately they are a poison to many people. You usually don't notice it until you don't eat them for a while and then go back. nightshades include: white potatoes paprika peppers (black's OK, supposedly- I eat it no prob) tomatoes eggplant I couldn't eat lentils at all after the diet started. MASSIVE indigestion. Then the rest of the bean world followed. Sparing used of green peas, too. Go easy on sweet carrots , sweet potatoes, any sweet foods. Use Stavia (sp?)(herbal sweetner) if you're craving. Take lactobacillus acidophilus and lactobacillus bifidus suppliments to restore bacterial levels in your intestines/colon. If you don't, the yeast will have no competition when you stop the diet and they'll march right back in and settle down again. Candida will always be in your body. Period. Being " Candida-Free " is a bit of a dream. What you want is a balance with healthy bacteria. Sorry if you know all this, I tend to ramble at times. Just wanted to help brown rice effected me like a glass of fruit juice. Some people can handle it. Pearl, the beginning is harsh for everyone. As your system starts cleaning shop, it'll bring up all sorts of junk: toxins, dead yeast, etc. Drink plenty of plain water. Try to perservere. If you fall off the wagon, get right back on. Never say die. Read the Candida FAQ, too. http://www.infosky.net/~alexmi/candida.htm Online research will answer almost all your questions! The people in this group are great help, too! I would have felt like a bit of a hypochondriac without them. I hope things settle for you, but remember: the beginning is difficult. Die off can be a %#@ best wishes, Jonah PEARLY2@... wrote: > I went to a very good naturopath in NZ where I live, just to get some > clear guidance on this. Guest guest
unfortunately, " tachy-cardia " is just latin for 'fast heartbeat'. To diagnose someone with a fast heart beat as having a condition of the same name isn't very helpful, but it often rests the patient's mind. Xanax, from what I understand, is used primarily to treat anxiety. J PEARLY2@... wrote: > been to the ER, haven't they given you a diagnosis? Guest guest
One of the things I did learn about the oatmeal...is that if you have to have it....soak it the night before. I soak it in water then in the morning I rinse it in a little strainer. You would be so surprised at all of the starch that comes out of it. When I do it this way,,,I am fine. Before that, I would get this drunk type feeling right after consuming it. Pearl (NY) Country Living at it's finest Countrylife
Guest guest
I only have oat BRAN porridge. The less gluten the better. During the beginning, no grains-period (for me , you might have a higher tolerance, but it doesn't sound like you do..)>> May I ask what oat bran poridge is? Guest guest
Hi Pearl I have had them before as well. I get them during the day and at night on occasion. It is really frightening, and I try to relax and breathe through them. If you take a big breath, then hold it for 12 seconds, then blow out the air through pursed lips ( with pressure) neither slow or fast, this will help your body relax and help them pass quickly. It's a bit freaky holding your breath, but when you blow out, it feels really relaxing. It does help, and it gives you something to concentrate on, rather than your beating heart! Regards . Hello and Help ! Guest guest
Pearl Please take it SLOWLY. Eliminating too much will cause your blood sugars to fluctuate wildly, causing even greater heart palpitations. When you eliminate carbs from the diet, your blood sugars take about three days to adjust. Mine still are unstable. Just eliminate all the things that are a no-no. Then eat in moderation those you think you can tolerate. When you have a reaction to something, eliminate it. keep going like this, till you have a list of safe foods. Some foods, as Jonah said, you won't be able to tell if you can or cannot have them. Sometimes its guesswork. As said, you have to go with your body and what it is saying. Something Jonah could have safely, I might not be able to and vice versa. The other day I had a bowel motion, and this caused my blood sugars to drop and I had to eat a banana of all things as I was out at someone's place when it happened. My friend who is a nurse said that when our bowels move, this can cause a drop in blood pressure and something else which I cannot remember. I find it amazing. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! Why who would of thought that having a bowel movement could be such a catastrophic event! <grin> Re: Hello and Help ! > I can see now that I haven't been doing the diet right at all. > This is going to take a lot of getting use to.
