Hi a,

This new fibro these doesn't make sense. I agree with you, I think

insurance companies will use this to deny claims. I think anyone who has

had to deal with SS or insurance companies will know that this test is

probably for their benefit not the patients.

Sam,

No, you don't sound stupid. There's no shame in never having heard of this

syndrome. " Fibro " is short for fibromyalgia which is a disease characterized

by widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue. a's web site has a

section on fibromyalgia (also referred to as FM (for fibromyalgia) and FMS

(for fibromyalgia syndrome).

Many of our members have fibromyalgia. Check the site out for more info:

And this weekend with the FM has been the worst in a long time. I am so

dead tired on my feet that I feel like I am not really awake at all. It

was a beautiful sunny weekend but all I really wanted to do was sit and

sleep. But there was little chance for that. My daughter had a soccer

game at 9 in the morning, while it was still chilly outside. Then my son

had a friend over, then my daughter had a sleepover, then then then. It

was one of those run all over and accomplish nothing sort of days. I

think that's my biggest challenge right now - the fatigue. The pain I

can handle - well almost. I think I might have licked that shoulder

flare with additional doses of prednisone, Vioxx, Ultram and Vicodin. At

least it's not aching like it was. But it wore me out. Any hints on how

to handle the fatigue when you have a part time job and three children?

Oh and one more question - does Arava make your hair fall out? If it

does, is there anything that can be done about it? Besides stopping the

Arava??

Yes, I take prednisone. I've been on it for almost 18 years now. It

doesn't seem to help much with the fibro. COurse I don't know how much

pain I would be in without it either since I have taken it for so long.

Ultram seemed to help the pain, but it wigged me out. And it's a real

bummer to wean off of for some people. Course I react weird to most all

medications. I can't take anitibiotics anymore either, so all of this

talk about AB treatment leaves me sighing. I wish I could. And I have

to be very careful about pain meds in general. And nausea meds. Even

Benedryl wigs me out something fierce. I took a cold medicine last night

and was nervous and jumpy for hours. I tried an antidepressant at low

doses for sleep, and it might have helped but it left me feeling somewhat

doppy in the morning. I have to function - I have three kids to get up

and ready for school, plus myself ready for work.

I do have several of those rice socks and dug them out for back pain last

night. It helped enough to let me sleep for 2 hours. Right now I am

battling a bad cold, with a severe sore throat, but again, can't really

go for antibiotics. But next time I HAVE to have AB, I have going to

take special notice if my RA and FM improve while on them.
