I will be making a conscious effort to wish everyone a Merry Christmas this year ...My way of saying that I am celebratingthe birth Of Jesus Christ. So I am asking my email buddies,if you agree with me,to please do the same. And if you'll pass this on toyour email buddies, and so on...maybe we can prevent one moreAmerican tradition from being lost in the sea of"Political Correctness".

Subject: A Christmas Story to Inspire Every Horse Lover & Crossed Sabers Top 10

A gift to our friends, a story that exemplifies one of the reasons why we exist, the belief that there is a purpose for every horse, every dog and cat, that there is a home for every animal and that there are no bad horses, only horses, dogs and cats that need understanding and love to have a purpose and to do their best. I hope you enjoy this and as you make decisions about your own animals through the years that you'll remember this little story....

Only for Love The young couple had made their usual hurried, pre-Christmas visit to the little farm where dwelt the elderly parents with their small herd of horses. The farm had been named Lone Pine Farm because of the huge pine which topped the hill behind the farm, and through the years had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside. The old folks no longer showed their horses, for the years had taken their toll, but they sold a few foals each year, and the horses were their reason for joy in the morning and contentment at day's end.

Crossly, as they prepared to leave, the young couple confronted the old folks. "Why do you not at least dispose of "The Old One". She is no longer of use to you. It's been years since you've had foals from her. You should cut corners and save where you can. Why do you keep her anyway?" The old man looked down as his worn boot scuffed at the barn floor and his arm stole defensively about the Old One's neck as he drew her to him and rubbed her gently behind the ears. He replied softly, "We keep her because of love. Only because of love."

Baffled and irritated, the young folks wished the old man and his wife a Merry Christmas and headed back toward the city as darkness stole through the valley. So it was, that because of the leave-taking, no one noticed the insulation smoldering on the frayed wires in the old barn. None saw the first spark fall. None but the "Old One".

In a matter of minutes, the whole barn was ablaze and the hungry flames were licking at the loft full of hay. With a cry of horror and despair, the old man shouted to his wife to call for help as he raced to the barn to save their beloved horses. But the flames were roaring now, and the blazing heat drove him back. He sank sobbing to the ground, helpless before the fire's fury.

By the time the fire department arrived, only smoking, glowing ruins were left, and the old man and his wife. They thanked those who had come to their aid, and the old man turned to his wife, resting her white head upon his shoulders as he clumsily dried her tears with a frayed red bandana. Brokenly he whispered, "We have lost much, but God has spared our home on this eve of Christmas. Let us, therefore, climb the hill to the old pine where we have sought comfort in times of despair. We will look down upon our home and give thanks to God that it has been spared."

And so, he took her by the hand and helped her up the snowy hill as he brushed aside his own tears with the back of his hand. As they stepped over the little knoll at the crest of the hill, they looked up and gasped in amazement at the incredible beauty before them. Seemingly, every glorious, brilliant star in the heavens was caught up in the glittering, snow-frosted branches of their beloved pine, and it was aglow with heavenly candles. And poised on its top most bough, a crystal crescent moon glistened like spun glass. Never had a mere mortal created a Christmas tree such as this.

Suddenly, the old man gave a cry of wonder and incredible joy as he pulled his wife forward. There, beneath the tree, was their Christmas gift. Bedded down about the "Old One" close to the trunk of the tree, was the entire herd, safe. At the first hint of smoke, she had pushed the door ajar with her muzzle and had led the horses through it. Slowly and with great dignity, never looking back, she had led them up the hill, stepping daintily through the snow. The foals were frightened and dashed about. The skittish yearlings looked back at the crackling, hungry flames, and tucked their tails under them as they licked their lips and hopped like rabbits. The mares pressed uneasily against the "Old One" as she moved calmly up the hill and to safety beneath

the pine. And now, she lay among them and gazed at the faces of those she loved. Her body was brittle with years, but the golden eyes were filled with devotion as she offered her gift--- Because of love. Only Because of love.

I can't remember the last time I got to go on a vacation or even a Christmas party off the farm and each year I read this poem to remember that there is a reason why I live this way... many would say its such a huge price to pay but when you look into those sweet eyes, I'm reminded that I enjoy the price I pay, its the gift that the horses and all the critters give to me each year. If you are working on Christmas and New Years Eve this year this poem may mean something to you too....

It's the night before Christmas, we're out in the barn Blanketing horses to keep them all warm They're eating their dinners, tucked in cozy stalls Not aware that it's Christmas or any special day at all They can dream of spring pastures from their pine-scented beds No visions of sugarplums dance in their heads But we people are thinking of merry parties and such Maybe feeling a little sad at missing so much

This season is special but the horses don't know We've got work to do before we can go We finish the chores and head on inside To get ready for dinner and our own yuletide It's nearly midnight, the carols are sung I remember a story I was told when I was young How at midnight on Christmas Eve The creatures of the barnyard can speak to us with ease I am called to the barn, I wade through the rain I know I must go, I can't really explain I slide open the door, pause for a while Then slowly walk down that dimly lit aisle A nicker from Sassy, a wink from PC Sleepy old Kochese waking to see Big Dawg rustling his bedding, a snort soft and light Each horse gave a greeting as I walked through the night I thought about parties bright lit and warm The

ones we don't go to 'cause we have the barn And vacations and holidays that we don't get When we're working long hours for bills to be met Walking all the way to the end of the aisle I stop to stroke Dancer, it brings me a smile She snuffles my face, hot breath on my skin It starts me to thinking about my horses, my kin I could be at parties with laughter and mirth But where I am right now is the best place on Earth.

Here is some fun entertainment.... the folks from Crossed Sabers and Second Wind showing just what good dancers we really are... check out all if you need a laugh today..... so funny...

Hi , And a very merry Christmas to you!

Cooking on a holiday??? Perish the thought! I always go out for a large

Chinese dinner on Christmas day, if snowfall does not prevent it. Chinese

restaurants are almost always open and they are delighted to have the business.

The weather idiots are talking freezing rain in the early hours but then say

that it will become all rain, so I hope that Christmas day will be good for

driving.

We are not suffering a lack of snow--and thank you for the offer!-- having just

had a record setting snowfall. I would go out to shovel today, but am glad that

the weather idiots predict that the weekend rains will melt the snowpack. Hence,

I can be online for a bit.

I wish you safe driving on Christmas day.

mother is 91. So we will be taking her out next Tuesday and hope to get to the

casino on Sunday. (Casino buffets are my way of getting out of cooking on a

holiday.) After many years of cooking, on Christmas and Thanksgiving, we/I found

it more relaxing to go to a buffet or check into a hotel and let them do the

holiday cooking.

The mares pressed uneasily against the "Old One" as she moved calmly up the hill and to safety beneath the pine. And now, she lay among them and gazed at the faces of

those she loved.

This season is special but the horses don't know We've got work to do before we can go We finish the chores and head on inside To get ready for dinner and our own yuletide It's nearly midnight, the carols are sung I remember a story I was told when I was young How at midnight on Christmas Eve The creatures of the barnyard can speak to us with ease I am called to the barn, I wade through the rain I know I must go, I can't really explain I slide open the door, pause for a while Then slowly walk down that dimly lit aisle A nicker from Sassy, a wink from PC Sleepy old Kochese waking to see Big Dawg rustling his bedding, a snort soft and light Each horse gave a greeting as I walked through the night I thought about parties bright lit and warm The ones we don't go to 'cause we have the barn And vacations and holidays

that we don't get When we're working long hours for bills to be met Walking all the way to the end of the aisle I stop to stroke Dancer, it brings me a smile She snuffles my face, hot breath on my skin It starts me to thinking about my horses, my kin I could be at parties with laughter and mirth But where I am right now is the best place on Earth.

Here is some fun entertainment. ... the folks from Crossed Sabers and Second Wind showing just what good dancers we really are... check out all if you need a laugh today..... so funny...

There is still time to send a gift of life, we'll be running the Noel Memorial Program until the end of the year....

Are you lost and confused over what to get someone on your Christmas list? Do they seem to have everything? Are you trying to get away from the commercialism of the season? Trying to find gifts that will be loved, cherished and meaningful to both you as the giver and to the receiver?

Here is a Wonderful and Easy Gift for the Animal and Horse Lover that has Everything.. ..

The Noel Memorial Program is a gift of life to all the horses in the program now and to all those that will need us next year. Named after one of our very early horses that we placed into a home many years ago as an aged mare. Noel has been long gone but never forgotten. It was her spirit and love of life that inspired us to start this program in her honor and name.

Here are the choices for donations:

-you send a donation of cash

-send an item that we can use (like tack or supplies)

-if you are selling a fancy horse or you need to sell a fancy horse, consider donating it to SWAP, all horses get a super home and the fancy horses help us feed the other horses that have not been do lucky in their life.

-send something we can put on our SWAP Shopping page,

-sponsor one of our horses for one month or many months is a perfect gift.

In return our President will send a hand written card with a note of thanks plus a picture and information about your sponsored horse or one of the horses in our program that is currently looking for a home to the person you are giving the gift to or the person you want to remember that is now gone. We don't mention what you donated or its value, we just let your loved one know you made a donation in their name.

The amount does not matter, every penny helps, every item donated gets us one step closer to our goal of helping each of these horses and even dogs and cats that we take in to find homes.

Here is what your cash donations can do for these horses:

$2.50 will buy a bag of carrots

$3.25 will buy a bale of hay

$10.00 will pay for a dewormer

$20.00 will pay for a farrier trim on one horse

$75.00 will pay for grain for one horse for a month or pay the farm call for a DVM to visit

$260. will pay for a ton of grain, which will feed all the horses for over a week

$300. will deworm all the horses once

$520. will pay for the farrier visit to take care of all the horses

$650. will pay for ulcer medicine for one horse

$860. will pay for grain plus delivery costs for one month

For Sponsorships, all you have to do is pick out your favorite horse on our website and send in the donation in that horses name. Here are the levels of sponsorships:

$25. Lieutenant

$50. Captain

$75. Major

$100. Colonel

$200. General Officer

$500. Secretary

$750. Vice President

$1000. President

Some of the options for donated items are.... dewormers, topical ointments, shampoos and hair conditioners, betadine scrub, towels, paper towels, poltices, hoof treatments, commercial sized trash bags, halters, bags of horse, cat or dog treats, wraps, boots, tack that we can use or sell, english and western saddle pads, saddles of all sizes and disciplines, blankets of all sizes and all weights, rugs, sheets and fly sheets and masks, copy paper, dog food, spray cleaners, clorax, efficient light bulbs, grooming tools, stall mucking tools and pickers. SWAP is even in need of a flat bed to move hay, our truck and trailer are both on their last legs, both are critical items to keeping the horses safe when we move them or take them to the vet.

What to do:

1. Send your donations to:

Crossed Sabers Stable

Rt 2 Box 24 A Jockey Camp Road

West Union, WV 26456

2. Make Checks payable to Second Wind Adoption Program.

3. Send your name and address so we can send your receipt.

4. Send us the name of the horse you want to sponsor (if sponsoring).

5. Send us the name and address of the person that you are giving the gift in their name or if it is a person that has passed, give us their name and we'll put it on our Memorial Page in their honor and send them a note.

Give the gift that keeps on giving, give the gift of health and life in honor of of Noel, the beloved Quarter horse mare that stole our hearts so many years ago.

Noel

Merry Christmas to you all.

There is recovery from Lyme, so don't lose hope. It takes time, patience and a

good doctor, but it is possible to get better. It is so easy to become horribly

depressed, but keep the promise of a healthier tomorrow growing in your heart

and stay s t r o n g.

Merry Day-After-Christmas to ALL! I was in Glenview for Christmas--my Out-Laws

live there--so I was right down the block from Ellen. And, I think our youngest

nephew has HF autism. The first words out of hubby's mouth when we got in the

car were " do you think little G has autism? " and I said " duh! " He obsesses over

the Willis Tower. ( " Aunt Marie, it used to be the Sears Tower but...... " and

five minutes later, he stopped for a breath.)

Anyway, I wish us all health, happiness and (here's where the fantasy

comes)politicians that understand and are willing to listen to the needs of our

kids/sibs/clients.

Peace,

Marie

Since most of us on this list need to live forever, let's see about living and

caregiving with as little pain and illness as possible. That's my personal goal
