Yes yes! I echo my thanks to all of you as I begin my flatback and

possible revision journey. I don't know what I would do if I hadn't

Merry Christmas Carol (and all).. "happy holidays"!! Hope everything goes well and you get relief soon Carol. Ken.Carol <dcvaughan@...> wrote: Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! I appreciate all your input to questions and problems this past year. I also appreciate the ones who sent me cards and flowers during my surgery. That really helped my attitude!!! I will need more prayers and thoughts as time goes on here this

next year. I had my CT Scan done a week ago Friday. (I'm at 9 mos post-op now) Now just waiting for it to get to San Francisco so Dr. Hu can evaluate it. I think I'll wait for after Jan. 1 to call and see the status of the CT evaluation. With the holiday mail and all, I don't think it will get there very fast...then the hospital's mail is very slow. My pain and discomfort is worsening in my buttocks area, so I'm pretty sure I'll have to have the pelvic bolts/screws taken out. I take a pain killer every day and it helps me function. Also taking the Neurontin, which helps too. Merry Christmas everyone!!Carol (CA)

Who Was St. ?

By Lynn Bushong

1 Nearly everyone has heard of Santa Claus with his gifts and

Christmas

Eve sleigh ride. It's a magical story that has captured the

imaginations of

people all around the world. Have you ever wondered who the original

Santa

was?

2 The legend of Santa Claus actually begins in the country of Turkey

in

the Middle East in the third century A.D. It all started with a man

named

.

3 came from a wealthy family in the town of Patara. His

parents

raised him to be a kind and generous man. When he was grown, he used

all of

his inheritance to help the poor, the sick, and those who were

suffering. As

a result of his actions and beliefs, he was still a young man when he

was

made Bishop of Myra.

4 The Roman Emperor, Diocletian, hated Christians and did everything

he

could to stop them from practicing their faith. He put so many church

leaders in the prisons that there was almost no room for thieves and

murderers.

5 was imprisoned but was later released after Constantine

became emperor of Rome. Then in A.D. 325, Constantine called the first

Council of Nicea. This was where many of the church's leaders came

together

from all over for a big meeting. We know was a real person

because

his name was on several attendance lists for the council. He died on

December 6, A.D. 342 or 343.

6 Right after his death, legends began to spring up about him. At

least

one appears to be based on actual happenings.

7 The first of the legends involved three young women. In those days,

a

father had to offer a dowry for each daughter to get married. Young

men

expected to receive a valuable gift from a girl's father. If he could

not

pay it, she would probably never get married. The larger a girl's

dowry, the

better her chances of gaining a good husband.

8 Near ' home there was a poor man who had three d! aughters .

He

had no way to give them dowries. With no one to marry them, they might

be

forced to become slaves.

9 One night a bag of gold coins was tossed through the window of the

house into the older girl's shoes as they sat by the fireplace. The

money

became her dowry, and she was able to marry well. Later, the same

thing

happened for each of the younger daughters as well. This marked

as

a great giver of gifts.

10 Another story tells of how three children or students were killed

by

an evil man. dreamed of the crime while staying nearby and

raised

them from the dead. This showed to be the patron saint of

children.

11 used his money and influence to feed the hungry and to get

justice for the unjustly accused. His spirit of giving secretly,

expecting

nothing in return, marked him as a great man among his people.

12 It is no wonder that the person of of Myra is linked with

love, generosity, and the giving of gifts. St. Day honors the

life

of a man who loved to help others. Even after all these years, many

people

still celebrate his life and good works.

Helen..blessings are flowing your way. Your description of Nick sounds so

familiar> I recall the same emotions as a child. My dad worked 2 jobs to try and

keep up with medical bills and family affairs and my mom had to go to work as

well and less time was spent on the kids and I felt so responsible. I recall

when I was about 11 thinking if I was not around my whole family would be

better off. My brothers would have mom and dad to themselves and my dad could

get

some rest and have dad time and mom wouldnt have to work so hard. Plus dealing

with the pain and aggravation of JRA. Sometimes I thought how much better all

would be if I were not around BUT soon I learned this was my life and my

parents loved me so much and they had choices but they loved me so much the

choices

they made were based on love...It is so hard but I know Nick and I know you

and I know all will be fine...Hang tight, hang tough my friend!!!!!!!!!

Luv on Christmas Day....

Hi ,

My neck doesn't hurt as much either, now. But it is very stiff

from arthritis in all the joint spaces of my cervical vertebra. If I

keep my neck in one position for a long time or overuse my arms, it

does get sore. The soreness is at the sides and a little in the back

and also I get a headache. But that goes away if I lie down and rest my

neck for a while.

I've improved my posture--concentratI've improved my posture-

my back straight and my shoulder blades together in the back. I was

always hunched over before. Good posture seems to make all the

difference for me. Even my lower back is better.

WOW. last winter we hit 180 inches, and THAT was the most snow i had

EVER seen in my life. I couldnt imagine 500.There was no place to

push it. It was so high that the neighbors dog went from the snow

pile and he was on TOP of the roof. He was having a ball tho!on the

roof. I like a little bit of snow, but not 500 inches!
