Anyone Get well on IV abx?

Are there any other stories about anyone's experience with IV anti-biotics?

What about having a Picc line?

I'm nervous about trying it, about possible infection, but I am leaning toward a

Picc line instead of a port. I have no idea how long they would want me on the

meds, I'm sure it has to do with how well I tolerated it.

Also, I'm curious as to how long you may have been on IV abx, or if you had to

go to the doctor to get the IVs, or if you were able to have home health care

come in to administer.

I also herx serverely with oral abxs, so I'm nervous that I won't be able to

tolerate IV abx at all. But, maybe I'm wrong?

So far, nothing has been beneficial to me. (I've been very ill for over 10

years).

I would appreciate anyone's experiences, thoughts, or advice!

Thank you!

I was very sick with chronic lyme about 2years ago. I was put on IV

Rocephin for 30 days. I herxed badly but stuck it out. They pulled the

picc line after 30 days, and I immediately relapsed. I saw many

infectious disease docs who didn't know what to do next. So I found an

LLMD who put me on strong oral abx. I immediately started feeling

better. Now, about a year and a half on strong orals I am 95% back to

normal health. But we've tried weaning me off the abx and I always

start to relapse. So I'm gonna stay on the abx for as long as

necessary. I know someone who's case was similar to mine and he took abx

for 3 years - but now he is basically cured - NO symptoms and NO meds!

I have hope I will be cured too. The treatment just takes a long, long

time. The girl in the movie " Under Our Skin " was deathly ill, but after

3 years on abx she was almost back to normal health. Maybe 3 years is

the key? Who knows...

Hello,

I had my PICC put in in May of this year and have had no problems with

infection or clots etc...It's become more popular for doctors to go this

route for many illnesses and the hospitals are pretty good at it now. They

told me they do about 20 a week at my local hospital.

I too have been ill for a long time and this is the best option in that

situation I believe.

As far as herxing...depends on your body.I didn't have horrible herxs with

orals very often, but I went to IV Rocephin and it had me in bed for 2

months.I had to just keep adjusting my dose until I could handle it and take

breaks to detox and let my body heal(which I still do now).

Most people do not even feel the insertion of the PICC and healing isn't

too bad either.I would encourage you to try it out,you can always decide not

to continue.I just power through it because I've been ill a long time too

and want to hit this thing as hard as I can handle it.

If your insurance covers it than a nurse will come and take care of it and

the meds will be shipped to you, my insurance recently changed and I have to

go in for a dressing change but the meds and all supplies are still shipped

to me....any other questions feel free to email me
