Guest guest
Regarding supplements: I would caution all a bit on this --- supplements, especially high doses, are like working with medicine. And they can make a world of difference. However, work with a nutritionist who is aware of all the interactions and toxicities or your doctor if knowledgeable in this area, or a naturopath/herbalist. The new book, The Lyme Diet, by Nicola McFadzean, N.D., is a wonderful primer on supplements and diet that is crucial to restoring health. Supplements made a world of difference for our family, especially Magnesium. But, let me give you a for instance on " what we don't know " and how it can hurt you. Re: Vitamin D - many have been advocating high levels, like 5,000 - 10,000 iu/day because of its infection fighting and immune system support. However, Vit D is closely linked to Vit A and if not " in balance " can create even more problems, including kidney impact and tendencies toward auto-immunity. Vit D is not just a vitamin - it acts like a hormone - would you take hormone medicines without a practitioner guiding you? There is a lot we don't know yet, and I would make sure you have a knowledgeable partner to guide you in this area. Some supplements are clearly non-toxic and just wash out when you've reached your max... some don't and build up to high levels. But unless you're an expert in this area, it is mind-boggling how complex our systems are, and all the interactions at work. Definitely pursue it - but with knowledgeable guidance... -
