It is my understanding that the jury is still out on this. There

appears to be two distinct schools of thought - either this works or it

doesn't. There apparently has been no specific tests done with the GSE

to tell - just speculation. I know exactly what book she has, because I

am the proud owner of both of those books and purchased GSE because of.

Then, I read that the information is not absolute.

I purchased mine at Whole Foods - but I am sure there are other places

you can get it (maybe GNC or Wal-Mart - where you get supplements).

Grapeseed Extract or GrapeFruit Seed Extract?

Hi All,

My friend is just " beginning " to make soaps. She has seen in her

book

an ingredient that says GrapeFruit Seed Extract (?)

I have seen recipes calling for Grapeseed extract but not

Grapefruit.

Anyone have any info on this or a supplier for it?

Thanks and I'm really enjoying this list,

Raadeeo, if you are interested in learning more about grapefruit seed

extract, try the link I am inclosing. I am a newbie, and when I asked

about GSE, I was told that it didn't work as a preservative. I happened

to come across this info, and, although some of it is hard to

understand, it helped me make up my mind not to use it. Have a great

day!

Leanna-

thank you for posting that.....I found it the most informative article I

think I've ever read on the subject. Changed my mind about the G-extract.

,

there's a lady on my EC board on PP that was positive with her first, not tested

for teh 2nd and just put on antibiotics and was negative for the 3rd and 4th.

I would just ask to be tested, then worry about the other stuff. I had all

these plans that totally got thrown out the window everytime a different test

came up.

Best Wishes

the only concern is if you have prolonged ruptured membranes during labour

otherwise there is no need for antibiotics

do some research on google, you should be able to find some medical studies to

give to your doctor

or better yet get a midwife and have the baby at home ºÜº

I am pregnant with my second child and my OB wants to have me take

antibiotics (which I am *strongly* against) because I tested positive

for Group B strep with my first child. I'm only 15 weeks along with

this pregnancy so I have not been tested for GBS yet with this

pregnancy, but was told once you have it, you are always a carrier

for it and that's why I need to be on antibiotics. I just heard about

Grapefruit seed extract and was wondering if anyone could offer me

any advice about this. Thanks!

Dear ,

the research does not indicate what your doctor is advising.

If you look at the CDC guidelines (USA) on GBS you will see that being a

carrier in a previous pregnancy is NOT an indication for prophalactic

antibiotics.Having a baby who was born with GBS infecection is an indication

, however. USA guidelines are used in the UK (dunno where you are) but the

centers for disease control sure did not pick their advice out form

anywhere...and USA is a risk management based as you get!!

You may want to consider whether you consent to being tested in this

pregnancy. many woman harbour GBS in the vagina. As many as 50% .The figures

relating to how many womne have GBS and how many babies end up with GBS

disease are interesting reading.

There are ways of reducing the ammount of bacterium in the vaginaand GSE (Do

please dilute!!) may be a plan.

If you can get into the RMAmidwives archives you may be able

to get info on this.

Another place for information may be through AIMS (UK) association for

improvement in maternity care .

When I use Grepefruit seed extract, I soak my seeds, then when I drain and

rinse them , I use the GSE, leave it for a few minutes, rinse and drain

again, then process as you normally would.

I discovered a year ago that I had candida, and have been working on

it since. When I first started, my though process was similar to how

yours sounds. You will save yourself much time and heartache if you

can realize that one or two products will not cure you. it takes a

whole lifestyle change of cleansing and rejuvenating the body by

eating pure foods, lots of clean water and avoiding all unhealthy

food. even then, your recovery will be long term.

Buy some gel caps to put the liquid GSE in so you don't have to taste

it.

Kimberley,

You can buy little plastic capsules and put the powdered acidophilus in that.

Also, you can buy probiotics in capsules.

I just bought some grapefruit seed extract tonight to try.

Has anyone had any success with this? I also just started acidopholus

probiotic.

The taste is horrible. Any suggestions on how to hide it? I'm also giving it

Thanks for any responses.

Your 18 month daugheter, and yourself, will benefit more if you add

bifidobacteria strains to your probiotic regime and feed it with

inulin.

If you read the research you'll find that bifidobacteria can out-

compete pathogenic bowel flora more easily than lactobacilli, and

it's easier to keep a bowel culture, although to a certain extent

lactobacilli can use inulin as well.

Has anyone tried Grapefruit Seed Extract?

I had forgotten about it until this am while surfing for information.

I took a bottle and thought I felt a difference. Not sure why I didn't buy a

second bottle but will today.

Hi Sheryl,

I started using Grapefruit seed Extract last Saturday as part of a

rotation of antfungals. I had some belley cramps, diarrhea, fatigue

and more brain fog than usual. This would all be part of a die-off

reaction. So I guess it's working.

I am rotating GSE with Oregano Oil and Caprylic Acid. Four days on

each then I change. I'm also eating at least one clove of garlic a

day.

I have read another article that had high praises for GSE. So I'm

keeping my fingers crossed.

I do burp up the oregano oil a little but it's tolerable.

How long have you been dealing with candida and how long have you

been treating it?

Elio,

Oh gosh that is a loaded question. I haven't been really faithful. I keep

falling off the wagon and I am sure undoing the good I have done. My off the

wagon periods are getting shorter and I am becoming more comfortable with what I

must not eat.

I just restarted this last Friday after a bout of about 4 days of eating sugar.

I love ice cream.

GSE is certainly LAST on my list of antifungals. I stuck it out for a couple

of weeks once, but honestly, IMHO, it was awful - the worst stuff I have ever

tried to ingest. And I am no chicken when it comes to taking my medicine, so to

speak. I'd rather take garlic any day.

Which reminds me - Kaolic garlic has saved the day for me many times when I've

developed vaginal problems from the Candida - and no garlic breath.

Dear Carol,

I know what you mean. I've read many articles similar to the one

Steve posted, but also many that were positive about GSE and its

benefits. We have members here who have also taken GSE. It's not an

antifungal that is tops on my list. One of my reasons is because I

can't see how one could easily extract the goodies from a grapefruit

seed, whereas other extractions make more sense to me.

Lotsa hugs back,

Bee

it does taste very bad. only added to orange juice can it be taken. but

what I did was empty a capsule and put the drops in that and put it back

together. it seems to be more effective that way too.
