Guest guest
Hi all, I was just diagnosed with Lyme yesterday. For I don't know how long, I have had fatigue, had sleep issues, and more recently I have had concentration issues. My doctor is wonderful and convinced me to test for Lyme even though I cannot recall having been bitten by a tick, and sure enough, my results came back very positive. I guess I am a little lost -- I don't seem to have the pain that many people are talking about. Do I just not have it as bad as some people? I'm a college student and I'm able to go to class and get good grades. I exercise a lot. Is my Lyme just less malicious than others? Or does my age and health make it easier for me? I honestly didn't ever consider going to a doctor about symptoms until my fingernails started to lift from my skin. I also noticed my hair thinning, but both seem to have dissipated. The fatigue, sleep, and concentration issues I just attributed to being a college student. I got tested for anemia and hyperthyroidism and both came back negative. When I went to my doctor, here was my list of symptoms: -Always exhausted, even when I get enough sleep -Jittery, can't concentrate -Nails lifting -Some hair loss -Can't sleep through the night, wake up multiple times -SUPER light sleeper now From just that list, the first thing my doctor asked was, " Have you ever been bitten by a tick? " So clearly, just from that, he knew I might have Lyme. These things don't get in the way of my life, but I definitely remember feeling smarter and less " foggy " four years ago. I feel more introverted now, and less motivated. With this diagnosis, I realized that those things could very well be related to the disease. I also have TMJ and hearing problems/tinnitus in my right ear that could be attributed to the Lyme. I don't really know what I'm asking anymore. I guess, is it possible for me to really get better and for all of these things to go away? Because from stories I've read, some people suffer with Lyme for years and years, even with treatment. I'm trying to understand what the treatment really entails and what I should expect. I know that my doctor can answer many of these questions for me, but I'd like to hear anyone else's personal stories or explanations of why Lyme seems to vary from person to person. Do any of you have symptoms like mine? I've done some research, but hearing from real people instead of going through lists of symptoms helps more. Thanks! I hope everyone gets better soon.
