Guest guest
, I have no idea what might be causing your itchy skin. Sorry. Iodine is supposed to have large deposits in the skin (perhaps 20% of body iodine). So it is possible that it could be having an effect. The other halogens could also be implicated in a detox. Your skin reactions sound pretty severe, so I would probably try stopping (or reducing) the iodine for a bit to see what happens. Zoe Since I've gone on my thyroid meds (Feb this year), and added iodine, my skin is so itchy all the time I can hardly stand it. Lotions don't help at all. My skin is still extemely dry and flaky, my face looks like I had a sunburn - not red, just dry and flaky. I know the dry skin is part of the hypo thing, what I am wondering is, when does it get better?Maybe it is the iodine (Lugol's) and detoxing fluoride, etc? Maybe there is some vitamin or supplement that could help? I took some Vitamin E today, maybe I should take lots?Anyone else have this problem and have any ideas? I'm about ready to crawl out of my skin! I live in a very dry area, so that doesn't help - relative humidity of about 15% is the norm here in New Mexico. Guest guest
Hi , I had this problem when I started on Armour, itching like crazy. It's just toxins coming out, more so now you're taking iodine. The skin is on of the main organs of elimination and will get clogged up when the other routes of elimination are compromised (kidneys, bowels, liver) and if you're detoxing too fast. So to help....do some dry skin brushing, followed by alternating hot and cold showers every morning and one or two epsom salt baths a week, maybe adding bicarb of soda too. This will help with elimination, so taking the pressure off the internal organs. Dont use lotions, they're full of chemicals. Instead apply an unprocessed oil eg coconut or sesame. Here's some instructions... http://healingtools.tripod.com/skinbrush.html Keep the bowels moving regularly with increased fibre and water intake. Eating a mineral rich diet will help too. Guest guest
Hi Anne,I know the skin is a major organ of elimination and I will start the skin brushing, I haven't done that in quite a while - excellent idea. I have been using a loofah but it really doesn't get the same results. My husband and my homeopath are encouraging me to get a colonic series to help ease up the detox symptoms and maybe increase my energy levels. Any thoughts on that? Has anyone had good results adding colonics? I am seeing my homeopath next week, she has some ideas for me.I do use epsom salts baths regularly, but have not trying the baking soda - will try that.I am very careful about putting chemicals on my skin, I use an all natural ingredient lotion or sesame oil or coconut oil.Minerals sound like a good idea to look into also.Thank you so much for your suggestions, I will definitely incorporate these into my regular program.Scratch, scratch, itch, itch, Hi ,I had this problem when I started on Armour, itching like crazy. Guest guest
Hi , Having a colonic is a great idea. I've had a few in the past and I used to feel fantastic afterwards. Now I have an enema kit at home. Obviously much weaker than a colonic, so you have to do them regularly which can be inconvenient but they're a lot cheaper! Yes it has to be a long handled brush with natural fibre bristles. A loofah would be too smooth. I got mine from The Body Shop. You should be able to find something similar in a health/beauty type shop. Something like this... http://www.consciousliving.net.au/products.htm?268 Anne > > Hi Anne, > > I know the skin is a major organ of elimination and I will start the > skin brushing, I haven't done that in quite a while - excellent > idea. Guest guest
Yes. Check these symptoms out: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/long-and-pathetic/ If the itchies are from the skin being dry, a good bees wax/olive oil based lotion or a coconut and bees wax based lotion helps a lot. You can even make your own lotion: http://www.natural-moms.com/make_your_own_lotion.html http://www.stretcher.com/stories/04/04jan05d.cfm http://recipes.herbalsoapsbyrj.com/tutorials/index.php Sam (thyroidless since 1990) > > Is skin itching a part of this condition? Guest guest
Oh Gena, I feel for you. I have very dry and itchy skin, which I think has caused an infection to get up under the flakes on my legs and cause a very large wound I have had for almost 3 months now. I have a wound specialist RN come and take care of the wound. I have tried oils, and lotions. You should see my bathroom and next to my chair in the living room are many different lotions. I picked another one up at Walmart the other day.....Quench by Oil of Olay. So far, it is the best I have tried and I have tried them all. I wish I had an answer for you. It looks like the Derm. would have the answers you seek. I have used my long comb to scratch with. And it isn't allergies, so I don't know, honey. It sounds like you are allergic to water!!! I make a concoction of raw sugar, brown sugar and lemon juice and scrub with it and getting rid of the top layer of skin seems to help, but that is the only thing I have to offer you. I follow the scrub with layers of lotion. I really like this new one I got. It will be interesting to find out what the others have to offer you. Sorry I wasn't much help......... Guest guest
Yes, I have it as well. Has been driving me nuts since I was diagnosed with Fibro. It seems our bodies not only overreact to pain, but also senses, and I guess irritations, too. Guest guest
--- In dominie , Amity Keele <txchristian_gal@...> wrote I also have very dry itchy skin too. My Neuro-endocrine Dr told me mine was caused by the warm baths and to pat dry then apply some lotion minus the alcohol in it too. Then be careful or what we put into our bath let it be moisturizing. I told her I still get it though she also told me cause of mu autoimmune diseases too can cause it nd some of our medications could too. so look up your medicines on the INTERNET goggle them and you will be surprised.I just checked mine out in our PDR we have. hugs Heidi > Yes, I have it as well. Guest guest
You sound like you have an allergy to one of your medicines. I had an allergic reaction to an anti-depressant and itched all over. It was like you described. Terrible! Check the side effects of all your medicines and supplements, etc. It does sound like a serious allergy. Summers From: Gena Lange <angellange@...>Subject: itchy skinaffter Date: Friday, July 25, 2008, 12:21 AM Hello everyone I would like to start a Topic on "Itchy Skin" My skin is not dry and shows no signs of flaking. Everytime I take a shower or bath I am so itchy afterwards. I have to apply baby oil while still wet. I like the "Alpha Kerry" oil best but is almost $8 a bottle. I apply lots of lotion even tho it's not dry. I have had this for 20 years and it doesn't matter where I am. It happens in my water, motel water, swimming water, lake water, soft water and in all states. I have 2 take 2 "Benadryl" when I shower just to not itch, but the drawback is I get tired. There have been times where I had to take a hair brush and scratch my legs and back. Some times I have itchy skin even if I don't shower. I have been to a "Dermatologist" and they did blood samples and skin scrapings and I have no Parasites. My ears also itch inside and he said that it's allergies and so is my skin that's why the "Benadryl" works. The back of my "Throat" and "Roof of my Mouth" also itch which he says is allergies. Another thing he suggests is my nerve endings are sensitive which causes the Brain to overact in the same why our "Fibro" causes our "Pain Threshold" to overreact. So do any of ya'll have any of these same "Annoying Itches"??? Happy Scratching, GenaNo virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
Hi- I am not a frequent visiter but thought I'd ask if anyone else has had a problem with itchy skin. Mine seemed to come on immediately after having a fruit body wrap. I had been on Mepron, azithyromycin, cednifir and plaquenil for Lyme and Babesia for about three weeks when I had the reaction starting on torso, then arms and legs. It was not exactly hives but red blotchy skin all over. I stopped all medications. It's been two weeks now and the blotchiness has diminished but my skin has gotten itchier and prickly. A little better today but still itchy. Thanks for any thoughts.
