At the same time I started these med I was also put on 25 mg amitryptline to help me rest at night. One of the side effects of this med was extreme sweating and increased sensitivity to heat and the sun. I was having a real problem with this being hot all the time thing.to the point of getting sick when I got too hot. After complaining to my gp, she lowered the amitryptline to 12.5 mg. That helped but Im still very hot most of the time, which is unusual . I have always been clod natured. Now Im thinking it may be the prednisone. Guest guest
Any of you have problems with thyroid? That also plays apart in regualting heat. I worked in an office once where I was always cold, and everyone was hot..... my supervisor would call in the heating and cooling guys every other day to check my area because I complained so much. Turned out to be my thyroid. Go fig! Guest guest
Gloria, That wonderful warm feeling is most likely prednisone. I have noticed that I have had a more difficult time tolerating summer heat, and even in air conditioning I sometimes feel like I have just been in a sauna. Yesterday, my coworkers were freezing, and I felt like I was going to melt. Not a pleasant feeling. Only relief I have found is to have a fan nearby to circulate air and to keep drinking cold water. Provides a little relief, if only psychological..LOL. nne > Hello , Nice to hear from you, my doctor said I would be on the > Imuran, at least two years, Do you or anyone else out there experience hot > flashes, my doctor thinks I am crazy, for saying I have them, he even checked > my hormones, to see If I was menapausal, but my levels all came back normal, > I feel this deep heat creep up my back and than I 'm just sweating to death, > for the rest of the day, and it's profusely, I'll probaly spend the winter in > shorts at this rate. Guest guest
Hi Gloria. I don't really experience " hot flashes " . I think maybe that's because I'm only 22. However, I do get a lot hotter than I used to and sweat a heck of a lot easier. I just figured that was because I was heavier than I used to be. But now I guess that maybe it's the Prednisone. Wow, this is just such a lovely drug, isn't it? Guest guest
Hi, Annette I started having bad hot flashes a couple of years ago; I thought I was in early menopause, but all the hormone testing doesn't bear that out. When I finally started getting decent medical care from someone who actually knows about HCV, he told me it's all related. Seems when I'm under stress they get worse. I do worse when the weather is extreme, either really hot or really cold, spring is my best time of year. I've learned to just go with it like you, layers of clothing, et. Please post again and let us know if you come up with anything. Kelli -- Hot flashes Does anyone have any information regarding hot flashes related to HCV? I may be way out in left field, but I think mine are related. 3-4 per day are considered severe and I have 1-2 per hour. Their supposed to last up to a year and I'm working on my third year. They are so bad that I can describe them only as fierce. They wake me up at night, soaking my sheets and pajamas with sweat, and I have to dress in layers during the day so that I can strip down to a tank top at a moments notice, even in winter time. My doc doesn't know. Hormone replacement therapy was started two days ago and yet no change has happened and maybe I'm impatient, but, dang. Help? Anyone? Thanks, Annette

Guest guest
Ask your doctor about the new compound drugs. They are 10 times more effective and geared to you only. From what I have read and seen about it in the last year, women side effects totally disappear. They are using this for menstrual pain and moodiness and it is amazing. They used to give us birth control pills to ease symptoms but it adds hormones to us with is what the side effects are cause from. But anyhow the new compound drugs are gain in popularity, only makes sense so no two people are alike dah. Ask your doctor about the using them or who they would recommend you see about who knows more about it. I suffered from it also during the change and used them after many months of changes sheets or beds. It was a cream that I applied and work like magic. Guest guest
I started taking prempro ( I have not had a hysterectomy) 2 months ago yesterday. I'm finally starting to not notice the warm rushes - They used to be HOT FLASHES and alot more often like every 5 to 10 minutes! and I was soaking wet and then I would freeze to death because it was 10 degrees outside and I was soaking wet LOL YEP! Menopause is just too much fun! - It has taken a good 2 months to feel better and I am still noticing improvements ( like with sex) LOL - Anyway, I am gonna KEEP my Prempro! - hugs, Kerry Come hangout with us in the pad HepperPad/

Guest guest
Kerry, I know I've said it before, but please monitor yourself on Prempro. I took it for 2 years. Previous to that, I never had a bad mammogram, and I have been having them since I was 18 as part of a study when I worked for the telephone company. After 2 years of Prempro, the mammogram showed calcifications. Calcifications are the start of breast cancer. I now have to have high-definition mammograms every 6 months to see if they are growing. There has *never* been a history of breast cancer in my family. Crap, Hep C is enough to deal with, don't need one more killer lurking in the weeds! Guest guest
Tell your doctor you want to try the hormone compound medication. Each medication is specially made for your body chemistry. Mine came in a cream and you just rub a small amount into the skin. Re: Hot flashes Hi Lynne, Do you know the name of it? I soak my sheets (and blankets) too. I'm taking Prempro. Thanks for the tip Sherry bbc <bbc1000@...> wrote: Hi all, I found relief from my peri-menopausal hot flashes in the oddest place. I spent some time learning about raw foodism and really thought that might be the way to go for me - to alleviate my allergy and terrible weight loss/metabolism problems. Of course, it wasn't the answer for me. Most of the raw foodists I met were mainly fruitarians and, as you know, the fruit was just too much food for the candida. Anyway, while I was visiting vegan-land, I learned about wheat-grass juice. It's perported to be helpful with lung scarring, among other things (I have allergy related asthma, but also have many scars on my lungs from long bout of pneumonia contracted in my late twenties). Wheat grass juice is horrible tasting, but it has helped me with energy and depression a great deal. I was also better able to sleep through the night. My hot flashes had faded and died away and I never even realized that benefit until I stopped taking the juice for a week or two. The flashes and insomnia came back with a vengeance. Now I never miss more than two days in a row. best, bbc

Guest guest
It sounds normal to me. Did you go on the hormones after surgery that is suggested? If not you really should consider it and also if you are taking medication, perhaps it should be increased. There are wonderful patches as well as pills to ease the flashes. I wake up during the night with my head soaking wet from hot flashes as well. Mine occurs the most in the middle of the night. Hope this helps. Suzanne H.
